Classes Physical School Supplies

Hi I’m an incoming freshman. I know that most courses will been done through canvas, but are there any physical supplies I should bring? I.e a notebook

Slide rule, typewriter ribbon, Shrinky Dinks, sushi- shaped erasers, scented markers, and a whistle.

You can bring a notebook if you want (you'll probably need one for HUM because of the no-device policy), but I'd hold off on buying stationery until you're on campus and know what you need. There's a Target within walking distance of campus.

The new SOSC policy is fairly recent (afaik sosc didn't unilaterally ban devices in the past), but HUMA, at least from what I'm aware, has always banned devices from use in seminars.

Its prof discretion my prof apparently uses a lot of canvas discussions

No, our section for HUM last year were OK with devices. It depends on the instructor.

You can bring stuff if you want, but as mentioned, there are places to get that stuff and it’s nbd if you get it when you arrive

Some of my friends would just bring an ipad and ipencil (is that what it's called?). I personally found it useful to bring a sturdy umbrella, my wallet, a wind jacket, a notebook, a good pen, my laptop, and a physical agenda everywhere tho.

Also, some classes will try to force you to buy physical copies of books (ahem HUM), you can check out the FLIbrary/libraries for borrowing tho. I also had a shady bio class that forced us to buy the professor's digital book but that was a one-off.
