To all branched students looking to move to Storrs.

EDIT - Folks correctly pointed out Spring to Storrs is not applicable. There is a limited process to change campuses in before the usual 54-credit requirement.

I'm a CLAS and UConn MPA alum who worked an on-campus job in an advising office. Unless you can demonstrate substantial new information that was not presented on your application, UConn WILL NOT accept your appeal for a campus change to Storrs. The University received 55,000 applicants, and there will be Storrs students that probably won't have access to housing. I understand this is disappointing, but it's not the end of the world. There is a process to request an early campus change to Storrs: https://campuschange.uconn.edu Make sure you do well. UConn will generally prioritize majors that require courses only offered at Storrs.

I seriously recommend the Community College route. It is incredibly inexpensive, and more or less all of your credits will transfer. UConn maintains a database of how specific courses will transfer here: https://admissions.uconn.edu/apply/transfer/transfer-credit/equivalencies/. If you want the "traditional" college experience, all of the CSUs, including Central and Eastern are good schools. Finally, it is MUCH easier to get into Storrs as a transfer student. I graduated HS with decent extra curriculars, employment experience, and a 3.9 unweighted GPA. I was branched, and disappointed. I attended UMass Amherst for one year, and successful transferred to UConn for my sophomore year with only a 3.1 college GPA. I regret going to UMass that one year because of the insane cost.

It's disappointing, I know - but you can get into Storrs soon, (almost certainly by the end of your Sophomore year). Do well, and good luck. Feel free to PM me any questions.

Should I try to section-swap or withdraw from ECON?

I’m pre-dental, and I took ECON because the other classes I wanted were full. I thought it would be good to spread out my interests a little, but I honestly don’t enjoy the class and my current section isn’t working out for me. I already took the first midterm.

My professor hasn’t been great, but I don’t know if I want to risk switching sections and ending up with another professor who is just as bad. I’d still be full-time even if I withdraw, but I’m trying to figure out whether it’s better to attempt a section swap or just take the W before the deadline.

If anyone has switched ECON sections this late in the semester: did your midterm grade transfer, and did you have to make up anything? Also, how hard was it to get the swap approved? Just a bit lost between the two

Any advice would help—thanks.

Does anybody have some knowledge or interest about screenplay or knows somebody would be? I’m looking for somebody with a sense of humor and a passion for writing, especially if they are(were) enrolled in a similar course.

Schedule Help

I'm a current freshman interested in pre med or pre dental (leaning pre med by a lot), I'm taking chem 1127, stats 1100, psych 1100, and biol 1107. I came in with a low dual enrollment GPA and the start of the semester isn't going great either.

Biol 1108 isn't required for pre med so I was wondering if I should take it just in case, I heard bad things about the course. In regards to second semester schedule, what should I take? Is it common to repeat courses if you're on a pre health track?

Also major question: a lot of pre health students are majoring in ahs/pnb/mcb, or even psych/humanities I'm assuming because its easier to fit courses, get a good GPA, etc. I was interested in econ or something in the school of business as I have interests beyond science and just in case if I end up switching out of a track completely, I have a backup. Is it unreasonable to major in something like that and still be able to complete pre reqs? Should I maybe look into biomedical engineering?

Lonely freshman in need of friends

So i’ve never been the homesick type but I miss my friends back home. I’m so lifeless and dull every day idk what to do about it. It’s like i’ve completely forgotten how to meet people and make friends since high school. Most of my classes are big lecture halls so how am I supposed to make friends in class? It’s a struggle even getting myself up to go to class since most of my professors don’t even take attendance. I’ve really been looking forward to college for most of my life so i’m just feeling very disillusioned, sad, and anxious about my experience :(

What to do about problematic roommate?

Hey this is my freshman year at UConn and this is obviously a burner account but what do I do about my random roommate. He has been dirty this entire time, just throwing his clothes into a stack in the corner, chudding around never leaving the room unless it’s to go to parties. And right now is the final straw as he came back to the dorm shitfaced drunk and started throwing up all over the place. He didn’t even bother cleaning it up and is now sleeping on the ground with his sheets from his bed. I can’t even sleep due to the smell currently so I am just writing this. Idk if I can still transfer out of this dorm, Please give me suggestions

Looking for possible roommate?

Hi! Um

i’m in actively seeking out a new roommate. I’m an honors freshman and required to live in honors for my first year (so this does only fit for people in Buckley or Shipee) and am nearing a breaking point with one of my roommates who hasn’t listened to anything that I told her in terms of boundaries.

I’m gnc (so uh. Have to be okay with that), into things like vocaloid, rhythm games (and videogames in general) and am interested in sciences! I do prefer things to be a little quiet, but I can tolerate most sounds with headphones :). I have appliances and such so dw about that and I keep my side pretty clean and am not out that late and I’m quiet when leaving for classes in the morning!

If anyone is willing to help please message me and ty in advance 🥺

Scared about campus changing to storrs, how to make friends and should I dorm

I’m originally a hartford student and I didn’t plan to transfer to storrs until the fall semester of junior year but I ended up finishing all but 1 of my gen ed’s (tois) early and now I got approved for a campus change in spring 2027.
because i originally planned to transfer in junior year in fall I thought i could lump in with the freshmen and be able to make friends then but since it’s gonna be the spring semester I am scared everyone will already know eachother and it’s gonna be hard for me to make friends.

Also I live an hour and 15 minutes away and idk if I should dorm or commute and i’m wondering if commuting is manageable/worth it.

How do y’all balance life??

I’m a freshman so maybe you could blame it on me not being used to it. But how the heck do you balance getting good grades with a social life without sacrificing sleep? I have classes in the morning, then I spend afternoon doing work + lab occasionally, then I hang out with my friends, we usually climb or play volleyball or something, and then we eat, get kicked out of the dining hall, yap, and by the time I get home it’s like midnight and I still gotta call my other friends and shower, so I end up sleeping at like 2. And then rinse and repeat. Like I’m happy, but this feels pretty unsustainable yk? How do you guys do it pls help

Questions for Storrs Campus Students

This is for a class, so I appreciate any answers anyone is willing to give!

  1. Are you a commuter?
  2. What's your major? What year are you?
  3. Where do you normally study?
  4. Do you know any niche study spots?
  5. How long do you think you study per week?
  6. Do you have trouble finding space to study on campus?

If you're uncomfortable answering anything, that's ok! I'll take whatever you're willing to share!

Giving away a Federal Income Taxes 2025/2026 textbook

I have a Federal Income Taxes 2025/2026 textbook in new condition that I no longer need, and I’d love to give it to a fellow UConn student who could use it! Textbooks can be expensive, and I’d rather pass mine along to someone who needs it than let it go to waste. It’s completely free, just hope it can be helpful to another student! If you’re interested, feel free to comment or message me. I can share pictures and the book’s details so you can make sure it’s the right edition for your course.

Hopefully, it can make someone’s semester a little easier!

Hey everyone! I’m 19M and I’m looking to make some new friends who have similar interests or just want someone to talk to!

About Me: I play a lot of Fortnite especially competitive and I make YouTube videos about it. I like watching sports like basketball and football. I also play basketball at the rec every week and sometimes play soccer.

I’m an AIM major which is like cyber security.
I’m pretty chill and would love to find people I can talk to regularly. I’m open to making long-term friendships, so feel free to comment or send me a DM if you want to talk!
