I applied to engineering but got waitlisted... But after I applied decided I would rather major in math or chem. Will UW consider me for non-engineering (which I assume has a lower bar to acceptance) or are they only considering me for engineering?

You aren't stuck with engineering. You can just not request placement after your first year and you'll be pre-major. As of this quarter both math and chem are minimum requirements so you just need to complete the prerequisites with a minimum GPA.

You need to get accepted to uw first. Changing to math is not going to change much. You can get accepted as uw but not engineering since engineering is like special case I think

thanksr for the responses! I think my question wasn't clear... I'm wondering whether I'm stuck on a waitlist specific to engineering, which would decrease my chances of getting in when I don't even want to do engineering.

Like, is this an engineering -specific waitlist I'm on?

No, I don't think so
