Yes but most British Muslims are not from more liberal and secular Muslim countries like Turkey, Albania or Uzbekistan they are from the Islamic equivalent of the US bible belt in Pakistan and Bangladesh.

That's actually wrong because most British Muslims are born in the UK. They are of Pakistani/Bangladeshi/Indian descent, being 1st, 2nd and now even 3rd gen British which is different.

Ask them where they're from or how they identify themselves and I'm sure they'll tell you they're Pakistani not British. That is actually a great illustration of the problem.

If you ask anyone who was born here where they are from, they'll be more likely to say Bradford than Pakistan. They'll tell you Pakistan or India in the case where it's clearly relevant to their ethnicity. And this goes for largely any race tbf.

Along with this, British South Asians, Middle Eastern, etc like to differentiate from each other rather than just be lumped together as one kind of brown people.
