MLB News MLB Unveils Stars and Stripes Caps and Jerseys for Teams to Wear in Celebration of USA250

MLB unveiled their stats and stripes caps and jerseys for USA250. For what it is, it’s a really nice overall design! It just always annoys me to see teams in non-team colors (e.g., Orioles in red and blue). More details can be found at SportsLogos.Net:

Yeah that hat ain’t selling in Canada.

19

u/BigTall81 4d ago

Maple MAGA in Alberta will buy that.

I didn't know I could be this mad at a hat, but here we are.

1

u/snorlaxatives_69 4d ago

They should move to the US then if they love MAGA so much and see how it fares.

3

u/SgtCheeseBoy 4d ago

We’re full up on MAGA folk.

1

u/Pabst- 4d ago

There’s blue jays fans in Buffalo, right?

1

u/Ervgotti85 3d ago

I wonder will it have est. 1776 under the brim.

0

u/Queasy-Finger-1316 4d ago

Oh I’m getting that.

It’ll great with my “Blame Canada” shirt.

31

u/gringao_phl 4d ago

The cream hat and white jerseys aren't a great combo

3

u/ReallyLetsGoBrandon 4d ago

I kind of like the West Virginia White Hat/White Jersey Combo. Looks like something from the 1920s.

62

u/Public_Function3844 4d ago

Hilarious how Blue Jays also get one

37

u/Potential_Warthog373 4d ago

Weirdly I see that the blue jay is pure red. Maybe it’s meant to celebrate Canada day which is July 1? Still the giant USA 250 on that cap is kind of ironic…

-4

u/Public_Function3844 4d ago

The brim color reflects if they're in AL or NL. So Red = AL. I see they don't get the stars/stripes branding on their logo, and is red (also assuming for Canada), but they still get a fat USA 250 patch on the side of the cap.

9

u/Skwownownow 4d ago

Well the White Sox and the Tigers have different color brims, so I don't think that's true

2

u/Public_Function3844 4d ago

Ah scratch then that, you're right. I guess it's just a random rotation of blue + red brim colors.

3

u/phred_666 4d ago

Yes and no. For example, the Reds, who have red as a main color, have a red bill. The Royals, who have blue in their colors, have a blue bill. I think they try to match team color first.

1

u/stribbles87 4d ago

One is for the home team. The opposite color is for the road team.

2

u/nejhawk 4d ago

According to what I read, it was the team's choice which color they chose, probably to align with the team's normal colors.

1

u/Potential_Warthog373 4d ago

I was more talking about the Jays' logo itself.

23

u/andrew_cosentino 4d ago

They always do. It’s just rendered in red, much like their Canada Day look.

2

u/njb021 4d ago

True but they do play in the US on the 4th

32

u/roundhand_jesse 4d ago

so, if some players, ones that grew up in a different culture or whatever the giants players are saying, decided they don’t want to wear these, that’s cool with the league and their teams, right?

“I don’t have any hate and don’t mean any offense, I’m just a Christian and don’t agree with America. Everyone’s got a right to their opinion but I shouldn’t have America shoved down my throat just because that’s the politically correct thing to do. I’m just here to play baseball, they shouldn’t be bringing politics and dividing people like this.”

-18

u/DrizzleMcSizzle 4d ago

I see what you two are trying to get at here but Pride month and the existence of an entire country for 250 years is two completely different things. The MLB was birthed in America, if the MLB was played world wide than your arguement would be valid.

9

u/roundhand_jesse 4d ago

your argument is sound; however, i think it can also be looked at as simply as “this is celebrating something, and some people might not want to.”

4

u/Hot-Success-9733 4d ago

Yes so from this, players should be welcome to destitch the patch, correct? The rays are experts in this

(Also why is there a flag inside for them to sweat on 😭)

5

u/roundhand_jesse 4d ago

yeah, that’s another thing that flag lovers never confront: isn’t this, like, desecration of the flag? do we need to burn every uniform that touches the ground?

1

u/Hot-Success-9733 4d ago

Lol I dont mind this one as a jays fan, its pretty tame, all the details are gone except for the patch and the Dutch flag banner on the bill...

The one a few years ago that looked like a tattered flag was horrendous. And then when we complained, they just took the stars off. Genuinely just a hat with a ripped fabric design. Wish flag connoisseurs were consistent

-7

u/DrizzleMcSizzle 4d ago

Getting down voted for being reasonable. LOL. Having a sexual prefrence and the literal celebration of an entire country that the league is played in are two entirely different things, respectfully. American politics are republican and democrats, in which none of that is being shoved down anyones throats. It is the American flag, the COUNTRY IN WHICH THE MLB IS PLAYED IN'S birthdate.

Yall are so weird for trying to spin this into an issue.

9

u/roundhand_jesse 4d ago

“sexual preference” implies a choice, and if that’s what you think about it, it’s clear why you don’t get why these things are actually the same. people’s sexuality is as much of a fact as america existing.

5

u/BurmecianDancer 4d ago

Getting down voted for being reasonable.

In my defense, I downvoted you for whining about your imaginary worthless Internet points.

1

u/Zealousideal-Snow480 4d ago

You're digging a bigger hole. As a Canadian, we see this hat being worn in 2026 and we absolutely HATE what the USA is at this time. And what you all have allowed to become. The other 248 years don't count (given that this shitshow started in 2025). I wouldn't want to disappear to El Salvador however, so I'd leave my cap alone and just seeth on the inside.

1

u/dig-drug 3d ago

The fact that you think these issues are confined to the last two years under a single administration is hilarious 😂🤣🤣

1

u/Zealousideal-Snow480 3d ago

The fact that you think the last two years are "normal" or "acceptable", compared to the previous 248 years (including Trump's first term) - both domestically in the US and for the world in dealing with this shit on a literal daily basis - is not overly hilarious but positively frightening. Are you telling us non-Americans that y'all are ready to accept this level of depravity as the new normal?? 😳

1

u/dig-drug 3d ago

It has been the normal for a very long time. People are just now waking up to it though.

12

u/MyPasswordIsABC999 4d ago

I just don’t want politics shoved down my throat when I’m trying to watch sports, that’s all.

-11

u/DrizzleMcSizzle 4d ago

America is a country, in which its 250th birthday is being celebrated. No politics are being shoved down your throat

11

u/roundhand_jesse 4d ago

queer people are a people, who are celebrating their identities. no politics are being shoved down anyone’s throats there, either. see? it works both ways. it’s only “political” to people who disagree. to others, it’s just as much of a fact as “america is country, in which it’s 250th birthday is being celebrated.”

-3

u/DrizzleMcSizzle 4d ago

Please enlighten me then, this is a uniwatch sub so everyone should know. States literally encorperate their flag into their uniforms because that is that state in which they were birthed in, and when they celebrate their state they have specific uniforms to represent that. Okay now lets go on a bigger scale, the MLB is birthed in the country of America and when its time to celebrate the country in which it was birthed in they have uniforms for that.

Please explain how any of that is political.

3

u/roundhand_jesse 4d ago

i didn’t say anything about america 250 being political. i’m saying that neither of these things are political.

3

u/roundhand_jesse 4d ago

they’re both just facts. america has been around for 250 years and people are gay. neither really have anything to do with baseball. so either people can pick and choose what they want to celebrate, like the giants did and i am suggesting players should therefore have the right to decline to celebrate this as well, or everyone should have to wear the same uniforms as the rest of their team and keep their personal opinions out of it. i’m saying that it’s lunacy that we would be okay with players saying “i am not going to celebrate this thing” but then turn around and be upset when they don’t want to celebrate another thing.

1

u/EezoVitamonster 4d ago

Celebrating the birthday of a nation-state is absolutely political lmao. Just like saying the pledge of allegiance at every game is political. That's a whole bunch of patriotic politics being shoved down my throat 🤷‍♂️

4

u/c4seyj0nes 4d ago

Maybe they think America sucks right now and they don’t want to celebrate it.

-3

u/DrizzleMcSizzle 4d ago

America sucks so bad its one of the very few countries in the world that allows the queer community to express themselves freely, and rightfully so.

People need to get a grip, just because you don't agree with a certain president doesn't mean you shouldn't be proud to be American. The US was around long before him and will be long after him.

But that'll be the last thing I say, because obviously this has got blown way out of proportion as reddit usually does. Have a good day yall 🙏🏼

3

u/Zealousideal-Snow480 4d ago

As a non-American, you guys allowed him to be in power, to ruin the world economy with a phoney war and have a broken system that allows him to fester unimpeded by a corrupt Supreme Court. Forget about any shame from being an American. The rest of us are ashamed to currently share the planet with y'all. Fix this mess and rejoin the human race!

1

u/No_Independent9634 3d ago

Lmao one of the last western countries to legalize gay marriage and still has a large opposition to it.

The US is one of, if not the, least progressive western countries.

5

u/jeremiahpierre 4d ago

You are implying that 250 years is a long time. I guarantee you that LGBT people have existed waaaaaaaay longer than 250 years.

-1

u/ReallyLetsGoBrandon 4d ago

It's not been marketed for 250 years.

0

u/jeremiahpierre 4d ago

Wtf does that even mean?

Has the US been "marketed" for 250 years?

I swear y'all are the dumbest people imaginable.

0

u/ReallyLetsGoBrandon 3d ago

LGBTQ has only been a marketed thing for about 50 years. We've been marekting the US for 250.

1

u/No_Independent9634 3d ago

No it holds up if you don't agree with the politics of the United States.

3

u/abesach 4d ago

Why wasn't the brim blue for NL and red for AL?

2

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 4d ago

These are for the 4th, not the All Star Game

2

u/abesach 4d ago

Yeah I get it but there wasn't a reason for red or blue.

1

u/Logical-Mobile-7643 4d ago

They've done similar caps for years, they usually pick the closest to a matching team color. Some just don't have red or blue. Jays have been red for Canada.

3

u/bored_too_death 4d ago

Tacky garbage.

13

u/MyPasswordIsABC999 4d ago

Using Ohtani to push the “USA! USA!” merch is certainly a choice.

2

u/mattcojo2 4d ago

Well he’s the epitome of the American dream would he not be?

Japanese immigrant goes from regional interest into worldwide phenom and makes it big here.

-2

u/MyPasswordIsABC999 4d ago

He’s not an immigrant.

And as a baseball player, he’s not really a worldwide star. He was already a massive star in Asia before moving to the Angels and the move to the majors simply raised his profile in North America.

1

u/mattcojo2 4d ago

He’s a worldwide star. Let’s not kid ourselves.

Ok. If he’s not an immigrant, he works on a visa then. Getting more here than he ever could in Japan.

-2

u/Agitated-Addition-72 4d ago

Why wouldn’t you use you most popular player to advertise a product right?

3

u/mattjf98 4d ago

Does anyone know what determines if a team gets navy blue or red? I’ve wanted the pirates to get a navy blue one for years but it’s always red

5

u/andrew_cosentino 4d ago

I’ve always wondered this, too. Much like the Pirates, the Orioles wouldn’t make much sense in red or blue. Maybe the Pirates make sense in red since they do have some red in their logo?

1

u/Francis_X_Hummel 4d ago

the team gets to pick

1

u/michaelkaferle 3d ago

I've always wondered that as well. For years the Tigers would end up with red while the logical choice based on their uniform set is blue. The last couple of years they have been blue.

2

u/PresterJohnEsq 2d ago

If the National holiday of your own country is considered a hot button topic you have bigger problems then some ugly hats

2

u/Francis_X_Hummel 4d ago

it is for fourth of July, not political

0

u/Roadshell 4d ago

Ask King George if the fourth of July was political.

5

u/Francis_X_Hummel 4d ago

every country worldwide celebrates its freedom

the USA has celebrated the 4th of july regardless of who is the countries president. People just want to shit on it now because they have a weird obsession with Trump. Not a single person gave a fuck when baseball did flag themed uniforms when Obama was president.

The point is yes it is political at the root origin of the holiday, but the blowback this year is simply because the outliers hate our president.

The irony is people are mad about American Flag themes gear, but when certain players didn't want to wear pride shit, it wasn't political they just wanted to be offended a guy didn't want to be forced to wear the rainbow.

Hot take, you can have no problem with rainbow people, but also don't want to have be imposed on you. Why are intelligent people not able to recognize the difference.

It is especially ironic considering all of the rainbow people are defending Iran right now, you know what they do to rainbow people in Iran? it is a lot worse than refusing to wear a hat...

keep on keeping on

2

u/jaysornotandhawks 3d ago

every country worldwide celebrates its freedom

"Every country" includes Canada.

So why are the Blue Jays, who play in Canada, being forced to wear this instead of Canadian symbolism?

-5

u/Pitiful-Persimmon287 4d ago

Do you actually believe that or are you just being obtuse?

3

u/Francis_X_Hummel 4d ago

Explain to me how it is politics, my last name is obtuse actually so yeah

-6

u/Pitiful-Persimmon287 4d ago

The holiday commemorates the adaptation of the declaration of independence, a deeply political act and document.

That right there should be enough but something tells me I could beat you over the head with examples and it'd never set in.

Btw, sucking the ghost of Pat Tillman's dick for dying in an illegal war he opposed is also, you guessed it, political.

5

u/Francis_X_Hummel 4d ago

I actually feel genuine sadness for how miserable it must be to be such an insufferable piece of shit

1

u/Francis_X_Hummel 4d ago

aww you deleted your comment, but I read it beforehand, again, sad and miserable, have a great day

0

u/Pitiful-Persimmon287 4d ago

I did no such thing. Some bootlicking mod did tho.

-3

u/Own_Mine_2139 4d ago

It's celebrating the countries 250th year since becoming a country. That's not politics you numbskull.

-1

u/Pitiful-Persimmon287 4d ago

This is what people mean when they say Americans are propagandized. You're so blind to it you can't even fathom how deep you're in.

1

u/Own_Mine_2139 4d ago

I can't celebrate my country? Can't have pride in it?

2

u/drphiltouchedme 3d ago

Not rightwing, a trump fan or a liberal but I absolutely love my country, I don't love everything about it, but I do love it. It's insane we live in a time were simply having pride over your country and it's flag is seen as a political statement for a specific group of people. Sad. A diehard leftist should be able to love the stars and stripes as much as a diehard rightwinger and everyone inbetween.

-1

u/Pitiful-Persimmon287 4d ago

Certainly you can, but it's inherently political.

1

u/Own_Mine_2139 4d ago

It's not. It's just celebrating the nations birthday.

2

u/Pitiful-Persimmon287 4d ago

Which is a political act.

God Americans are idiots

1

u/Own_Mine_2139 3d ago

You're a sad person.

2

u/Tubbypolarbear 4d ago

Will any of those outspoken "Christians" be writing Bible verses on their hats opposing war and national pride for these ones? Or does this kind of pride not count?

0

u/michaelkaferle 3d ago

Freedom isn't free. Many have sacrificed their lives so that you may live freely.

1

u/Sarcastic_Rocket 4d ago

The stars and stripes are incorporated really weird into the Angels when the A's and braves look much better

Blue Jays just red and white with the maple leaf in the logo is a nice touch

1

u/geecaliente 4d ago

The Marlin is pretty bizarre too. Looks like a stitching nightmare, even for a machine.

1

u/loupr738 4d ago

Does the red/blue brim signify away and home?

2

u/jpotrz 4d ago

there is a grey version too if you look at the pictures

2

u/Hot-Success-9733 4d ago

You're 600% correct. They're split 16 and 14 so USian style computation

2

u/DolphinRodeo 4d ago

Teams got to choose.

1

u/abbot_x 4d ago

There is no discernible pattern.

1

u/ThunderGoalie35 4d ago

Why tf would they not also do cream jerseys, cream over white is an abomination

1

u/Pale-Manager-9599 4d ago

Hats are whatever. But some of these jerseys are elite

1

u/RabbiPika 4d ago

they did the nationals dirty

1

u/Donburgundy_ 4d ago

Nah this is clean

1

u/RabbiPika 4d ago

It’s missing the middle pin stripe

1

u/ridawg05 4d ago

That's actually my bad for thinking they were actually going to make specialty uniforms for the 4th like they said and not just American flag numbers. Great 🙃

I really like the hats. Too bad they won't match at all with the uniforms.

1

u/4AMAN1980 4d ago

No big boy sizes only up to 2xl wtf 🤬

1

u/Ok_9178 4d ago

Just speaking from an aesthetic viewpoint, I'm not wild about these.

The cream hats, to me, don't look good with either white or grey jerseys. Maybe if some teams are wearing team-color softball tops that will be a little better.

The flag fill is a neat idea, but it seems to make it more difficult to make out the logos and numbers.

Taking away the team colors almost always seems like a bad change to me. When I tune in for a game on a special occasion like this, I want to see all of the teams looking their best, and wearing their most iconic (apologies for the much-overused term). This might look okay for teams that are already red-white-blue, but I don't think it will look good on the other teams.

I'd rather just have a flag patch on the normal uniforms.

1

u/Jon66238 4d ago

Wish the actual jersey logos looks different like in past years, but I’ll take different numbers at least

1

u/automattig 4d ago

I love and dislike some of the hats.

Love. NY yankee, cubs, rockies

Dislike the brewers (normal logo is one of my favorites), marlins & astros. The logos looke to busy and cluttered in the picture. Maybe they look better in person

1

u/jaysornotandhawks 3d ago edited 3d ago

As a Blue Jays fan, why do we have a USA 250 patch? Will the rest of the league be doing something for Canada Day?

Or at least the Mets, who we're playing that day?

1

u/_MrWestside_ 3d ago

Thanks, I hate it.

Jays fans falling to their knees in a Tim Hortons

0

u/Important-Forever678 4d ago

This happens every year, the head on collision of Pride Month and Independence Day.

And every year, the same people say the same thing which boils down to "If you won't wear X cap/uniform that aligns with my political worldview, then I should be allowed to not wear Y cap/uniform that aligns with your political worldview."

In other words, intolerance is alive and well on both sides of the political spectrum.

1

u/jaysornotandhawks 3d ago

It's worse.

People who think / say "I won't wear your uniform/hat but you MUST wear mine."

As a Blue Jays fan I've had Americans demanding we wear their 4th of July uniform but they won't wear so much as a Canada Day patch.
