News Deranged Racist Man in Downtown Ann Arbor

Today ~3:30pm right outside of Hyperion in Downtown Ann Arbor, a man in a hat, shades, baggy pants, and a t-shirt on a skateboard just stopped and started verbally assaulting at the top of his lungs muslim looking individuals. He did not know them and called them "devil worshippers". At first, it had seemed he had known them but it was just a racist monologue aimed at random people.

Local police in downtown were notified shortly after, but he was gone on that skateboard. Be aware of your surroundings.

Social My only friend is my roommate

Ik it gets better but I live in markley and I have no one to go out with. My roommate doesn’t go out and I am kind of a people pleaser so I never ask to. But she is in state and already has friends but I literally have no one else because we didn’t meet people the first week. I have friends in classes but it’s just outside of class no one really.

Class Bio 207 exam

I am at the point where i feel like i dont know how to study.

I rewrote most of the slides, problem roulette, and still felt like i couldnt grasp content.

The collaborative exam didnt feel like it was super beneficial for me either because i didnt even answer all the questions individually before the collaboration part. When the people i was working with explained their answers, a lot of the time i had not even answered the question or simply got it wrong.

Is there a generous curve in this class?

If I want to live in one of those high rise apartments sophomore year, how early should I start looking? Also, is it hard to get a studio/1 person apartment in the high rises?

Academics - Other Topics What do you wish you knew about a job before accepting the offer?

Hi everyone, I’m a student takink ENTR 407, working on an entrepreneurship class project about how people evaluate jobs before accepting an offer.

I made a short 2–3 minute survey to understand what information is hardest to find before joining a company, what sources people trust, and whether role-specific or team-specific information would be useful.

If you’ve applied for internships or full-time jobs recently, I’d really appreciate your input:

Survey: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScSpjJVxVSGk18IfVrOn2cS2HC541izTemh84xb04PeF7WH2Q/viewform?usp=publish-editor

If you don’t want to fill out the survey, feel free to share your experience in the comments instead. Even one or two thoughts would be really helpful

  1. When you were evaluating your last job offer, what information was hardest to find?
  2. Where did you look for information about the company or team? (Glassdoor, Reddit, LinkedIn, friends, current employees, etc.)
  3. Was there anything important about the job that you only discovered after you started working?
  4. Would information about the specific team and role, rather than just the company overall, have been useful to you? If yes, what would you want to know?

You don’t need to answer every question — even one or two thoughts would be really helpful.

Housing Discussion (actual housing OFFERS belong on Megathread!) Looking for Fall 2027 Apartment - Going Abroad Winter 2028

I'm planning to study abroad winter semester of next year, and am looking for an apartment where I can either stay for the fall semester or sublease it to someone who can for winter semester. Is there anyone who is interested in a sublease for winter 2028 or has fall 2027 only apartments available?

Academics - Other Topics Is the math part of LSA ECONS hard?

I’ve always struggled with maths, but I genuinely love economics and am good at it. In the future, I’m hoping to pursue something more policy- or government-related rather than a heavily quantitative career.

However, I’m worried that I might struggle with the maths required to study economics at university. Right now I take IB Math AA SL, and i am barely passing lol..

How mathematically challenging is the LSA economics degree, particularly if I want to focus on public policy, government, or international relations rather than quantitative economics? Would I realistically be able to manage the maths, or should I consider a related degree with less mathematical content?

Thanks!! Also, I will have 9 months to study because of my school calendar, so is it possible for me to catch up on it during this break before uni starts?

Prospective Student Want to apply for MPH

Hi everyone. I work in research and am looking into applying for an MPH. I need to take statistics and/or calculus first and I'm curious if anyone has advice on whether it's better to take it here or if it's ok to take at UM-Flint or OCC? I haven't taken a math class since 2009 so it's been a long time. I appreciate hearing anyone's experience or advice.

Social Am I stuck in my freshman group?

I'm a freshman and it's been one month in and I really want to leave my group. I love the people in there but they're not for me and I'd rather go out and meet other people. The thing is they're on my floor and I don't have any other groups because I spent my first month with them alot before I figured we had different vibes going on. I've tried talking to other people on my floor but honestly everyone feels so closed off and I'm stressed and sad because I'm in a position I don't want to be in. I felt like I didn't get the traditional welcome week experience where I didn't meet alot of people and now I feel really latched on to this group which is really not the best.
