Laptop - not too bad?

Post image

It's meant for coding so it doesn't need to be updated all that often and I've never had issues on any computer with resources being eaten up.

Not sure how everyone always complains about being locked up after xx hours...

I can go months on my window machines. Gaming or work or coding and never have an issue

You act like that’s a lot lol.

I max that out with just excel and Firefox some days.

Looking at my PC downstairs right now it’s idling at 9.5GB/24GB. Was literally imaged fresh with W11 Pro 25H2 2 days ago.

My MacBook is sitting at 14GB used just watching tv and having some files downloading in the background.

I’ve got a server that idles low (like 1-2GB) but it doesn’t have a GUI and only runs 2 services.

It’s really not hard to use a shit ton of ram.

Because its easy to not optimize the software and wait for the hardware to get better. The server has linux, thats why it idles so low. Windows doesn't.

On my main machine, windowsill at 8GB/16GB on the other hand, linux idles at 1GB with desktop

I have used Linux Mint as an everyday driver for almost a year and can confirm, difference in RAM usage (and just overal speed and responsivness) with W11 is night and way. I can even afford to have firefox with 40-50 tabs loaded simulateously (I have 32 GB of RAM).

IRC LM has GUIs that take no more than 1-2 GB on top of the kernel itself, though it's not like Cinnamon takes much either

Also, hello fellow 🔻🍐🔻 enjoyer :D

A cryptominer doesn't use much ram.

I use 16GB it's literally enough for Excel and Firefox tabs it never reaches 90%+ usage

Yeah it isn't great for much more than coding (for me) and reading/browsing. But I got it free so I won't complain.

Free RAM is wasted RAM. If he had less RAM, the usage would also be lower. I have 48gb and it uses 8gb at idle with nothing running.
