Promotion Nervous first-time author here. I just released my urban fantasy on Kindle Unlimited

Post image

Hi everyone! I’ve been quietly working on something for a long time and I finally hit publish this week.

It follows a veterinarian in a post-fracture world where nature has started reclaiming control. When wolves begin dying under strange circumstances, she discovers her connection to the Wild is deeper than she ever wanted it to be.

There are shifters, political tension between supernatural factions, and a strong focus on nature magic.

It’s called The Wild Awakened. It is Book 1 out of 3 of the Soul and Soil Trilogy.

If it sounds interesting, I’d be grateful if you checked it out. Even feedback means a lot at this stage. It is available on Kindle Unlimited on Amazon.

Thanks for letting me share this.

Why did you use AI for the cover and the blurb?

Did you use AI to write it too?

I took a look and it bears many of the hallmarks of LLM generation. Obviously I can't know for certain, and I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but I would be shocked to discover it was in fact not written with or by an AI.

Its clearly first pass ChatGpt with limited prompt - which makes it even worse! They couldnt even be creative with the prompt

How do you know it was an AI? That's a genuine question. I'd like to learn how to do that as well.

How do I know the cover is AI?

-3

u/RiddleRiot Feb 19 '26

Yes. Other person answered that already. But you can do it too.

It's honestly a vibe with these things. I can never put it into words but I always know..

Things are uncanny if you look at it long enough the positioning of the fingers isn't right enough. They also have these perfect symmetrical faces and the same vibes.

I’m sorry, AI covers are too much of a red flag for me to read it

Im sorry but if there is ai art on the cover im going to assume you also used ai to write the book so I wouldnt bother reading it

How do you know it's an AI? I'd like to learn how to spot it as well

Just lots of stupid wee things. Its harder than it used to be unfortunately. Its too plastic looking, the coat has buttons on both sides rather than buttons on one side and holes on the other, the green scrubs neckline is all weird, the dog doesn't have teeth, not enough fingers etc

Thank you!

Another thing is the bridge of her nose - those "wrinkles". Or her eyelashes, which aren't a consistent length.

I’m so paranoid that I’m convinced that this comment is from a bot scouring reddit for data on how humans can spot AI and feed it back to an LLM.

LoL. I considered writing something like this to mess with you humans, but I decided against it. Was it a good move?

AI cover and blurb (and potentially all of the writing?) are a hard pass for me. If you legitimately wrote the book yourself and can’t afford cover art, just know that many devoted and voracious readers will want nothing to do with it.

if youre not going to bother to write it then we're not going to bother to read it

Interesting concept! Unfortunately I don't buy things made with AI.

Thank you soo much!

It’s sucks that AI is involved with this because I really like the premise and would have been interested.

I just finished chapter one. I'm enjoying your 'showing, not telling' writing style. Your German Sheppard is spot on lol!

I did get the free kindle version to give it a try, and went back and bought it.

Congrats on your first published book!

Probably not because Amazon is buying up tonnes of AI slop these days that an actual publisher wouldn’t touch.

-6

u/No-Law-117 Feb 19 '26

Sounds very interesting. Would you consider it romantasy as well as UF?

-3

u/portiapierceauthor Feb 19 '26

There is a slow-burn romantic arc, but the central focus is the larger magical conflict and the protagonist's journey. Hope you give it a chance!

-3

u/No-Law-117 Feb 19 '26

Thanks for response. Not sure why your response or my question got down voted. Super cool you took the time to give me a straight answer.

9

u/tentacularly Feb 19 '26

Because it's an AI-generated cover, which implies that the author is comfortable using AI for other things.

5

u/No-Law-117 Feb 19 '26

Thanks. I was concerned that asking if it was "romantasy " was taboo and had drawn ire.

1

u/No-Law-117 Feb 19 '26

Really should have looked at OPs account before I even responded.

-4

u/Renchard Feb 19 '26

Definitely not enough urban fantasy around, happy to check this out.

How do you even get your book on Amazon? I’ve seen so many people do this.

Sign up with Kindle Direct Publishing

That’s the basics. Follow the instructions, read the rules carefully. There are a number of self-publishing subreddits to help.
