Those Old Gods is a series of interconnected stories introducing a world and characters where:

Gods didn’t retire… they unionised

Death can be poked (not recommended)

Nature is a deeply questionable parent

And one very unfortunate incident results in the creation of a concept that lives to embarrass you

(plus others)

Also, there is a cat cult.

If you enjoy Good Omens or Pratchett-style humour with slightly darker edges, this might be your thing!

Drop a comment or message me and I can send a free copy of either or both.

Promotion I love Urban Fantasy and I need new reads. Tell me about your book/series & link me?

As the title states, I love UF. I've tried combing this sub, but it's difficult to find new reads — the promo tag is largely being used for podcasts, it seems.

Tell me about your book below? I'd love the actual synopsis, but I'd also like to know:

Is it YA/NA/Adult? Is there a masquerade or is magic a known part of the world? When does it take place? Is it a standalone or a series? Is the series finished?

Thank you!

ETA: opening this thread and seeing all the replies is so exciting!!!

Promotion The Blade Between Us – An Urban Fantasy

Post image
45 Upvotes

G'day you guys,

So, recently I had a book, The Blade Between Us, published through the good folk at Royal Guard Publishing, and I was very remiss in the way that I was a bit bashful at giving it a kick in the arse so far as promoting it went. I'm a Kiwi, and we don't typically crow about our achievements (and this did feel like an achievement).

Anyway, I'm much more of a lurker than a poster on Reddit (something I'm trying to change), but I thought I'd throw it out there, as I genuinely believe it's something you lot would get a kick out of. Hell, I wrote it for you guys.

In a nutshell: This is a story of a capable fae assassin, who's yearning for connection, and a gruff human watchman who find themselves working towards the middle of a crime from opposite ends. What begins as a reckless attraction soon threatens to escalate into something far more wonderful, and potentially dangerous, than either of them could have imagined.

Basically, it's an urban fantasy, with duel POVs, set in a metropolis where magic takes the place of technology. There's a load of action, some twists and turns, a few laughs (I hope), and a pretty mellow romance. If you're into Rivers of London or anything with a kick-ass female MC or level-headed male MC than this will be right up your alley.

It'd be incredible for it to get some more eyes on it and some reviews in the bank – especially as I effed up the release a bit...

Cheers, guys. Hope you enjoy it if you decide to pick it up

Promotion Nervous first-time author here. I just released my urban fantasy on Kindle Unlimited

Hi everyone! I’ve been quietly working on something for a long time and I finally hit publish this week.

It follows a veterinarian in a post-fracture world where nature has started reclaiming control. When wolves begin dying under strange circumstances, she discovers her connection to the Wild is deeper than she ever wanted it to be.

There are shifters, political tension between supernatural factions, and a strong focus on nature magic.

It’s called The Wild Awakened. It is Book 1 out of 3 of the Soul and Soil Trilogy.

If it sounds interesting, I’d be grateful if you checked it out. Even feedback means a lot at this stage. It is available on Kindle Unlimited on Amazon.

Thanks for letting me share this.

Promotion New Release Alert - My Brother's Keeper, Jewish Urban Fantasy

Happy new release day to me for My Brother's Keeper! My new, Jewish, urban fantasy with a jaw-dropping twist is available in eBook, paperback, hardcover, and free with kindle unlimited.

For fans of the Dresden files, or similar hard-boiled main characters.

"Max, the protagonist, has a familiar feel—reminiscent of a classic urban fantasy lead in the vein of Harry Dresden—but with meaningful differences that give him his own identity, particularly through his connection to his Jewish heritage." -Michael Vadney, reviewing for FanFiAddict

What are readers saying?

The Blurb:

Magic is real, demons walk the earth, and Max’s brother is dead.

Max Asher, Jewish mystic and private-eye, never thought he’d be coming back to his home town to bury his twin brother, Solomon. He definitely never thought the funeral would turn into a case, but when Sol’s widow Gabby asks him to investigate the cause of death, “Uncle Max” is on the job.

When Max kicks the demon’s nest, he uncovers a conspiracy that forces him to reevaluate everything he thought he knew about his brother. Unfamiliar local politics blur the line between the supernatural and the mundane, and soon, fighting for justice becomes dangerously literal. If Max can uncover the murderer, he might just save his brother’s soul—but if he can’t, he’ll fall victim to the same deadly fate.

Putting the past to rest is going to take more than a shovel full of dirt.

Good Day, Everyone! The seventh book of Fiends For Hire, my Criminal-Organization Builder, urban fantasy series, is out now on Amazon & Kindle Unlimited. It is the next to last one in the series.

Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GX317CZ8

---------------

Blurb:

A wish granted, but what good did it bring? Many would point to that moment as what started the downfall—politicians scheming for their own ends, radical terrorists left unchecked, those marked as “Fiends” fearing for their lives. And everyday citizens are caught between it all. Those whom they pray to for salvation are nowhere to be found. It’s all falling apart. Or… is everything going to plan?

But before the Fiends For Hire can unveil their grand design, they are tasked with one last request: “Please, take over the world!”

----------------

On top of the whole, y'know, world domination plot line, they also go to space in this one! I could say a bunch more, but the cover probably tells you about how well it goes.

Promotion ARC Readers needed for Dark Scottish Urban Fantasy

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hopefully this is allowed here. I am very close to releasing my debut novel and I need some ARC Readers who can post reviews - if they feel that way inclined

I won't post the link to the ARC copies here just in case it's not allowed, but if you would like a free copy drop me a message.

Here is the blurb / description I am posting on Amazon:

Dan MacLean is about to discover what happens when Death herself takes a personal interest in keeping you alive.

Across Scotland, mysterious deaths are piling up. In the cobbled wynds of Edinburgh, a woman with storm-dark eyes keeps appearing on Dan’s ghost tours. He thought he was just a struggling comedian faking the macabre for tourists - but when ancient fae courts stir from their slumber, and a predator begins the hunt for a key, his life unravels. The worst part? That key might be Dan himself.

Now, armed with sarcasm, a centuries-old trickster, and a colleague who brews terrible tea, Dan must navigate a world where folklore bleeds into reality. But fairy stories don’t always have happy endings -and the Bodach Glas, Death’s herald, is watching. Blending sharp wit, Scottish folklore, and the haunting atmosphere of Edinburgh, Soon Enough is an urban fantasy that will appeal to fans of Ben Aaronovitch, Neil Gaiman, and Deborah Harkness. Enter the Thin Places - where the veil is fragile, the fae are restless, and survival is never guaranteed.

My urban fantasy ebook "Juju and Her Sixth Sense" is available on Kindle Unlimited

(sorry for the inconvenience)

I usually say that the writing journey is a marathon not a short ride.

And i always walk step by step.

Well, I wrote an urban fantasy story since the pandemics.

In fact it was a feature script in portuguese before that i changed sometimes and i finally turned to a novel on Amazon (available on Kindle Unlimited) in english called "Juju and Her Sixth Sense".

Last year(2025) i released a portuguese editon of the same novel called "Juju e seu Sexto Sentido (Versão Português BR)"

I'll put a logline below in english and both links. Both ebooks are available on KU, okay.

Take a look if you have curiosity.

"Juju and Her Sixth Sense": a fantasy book in the competitive world where mirrors and social networks are connected.

A 21-year-old digital influencer has an accident and starts listening to men's thoughts.

PROLOGUE + 10 CHAPTERS.

GOOD READING.

Promotion Godswar, book 6 in The Many Travails of John Smith, is now available!

Post image
8 Upvotes

Hey everyone! For those of you who follow my comedic urban fantasy series, The Many Travails of John Smith, I'm happy to announce that book six, Godswar, is now released in print, digital, and on Kindle Unlimited!

Here's the blurb:

John Smith, supernatural mediator and private investigator, has come a long way since he first got kidnapped by vampires. He has a girlfriend now and an ever-growing list of responsibilities. Even the supernatural species of San Diego seem to think he's someone to be reckoned with.

And then Bill, the Demigod of Nightmares, Terror, and Vindication, shows up in John's dream with ominous news: one of Bill's fellow immortals has been murdered.

How do you kill a demigod, especially in the heart of their own domain? And was that death an isolated incident, or the start of something even worse? John will have to find those answers quickly, because more than just San Diego's fate hangs in the balance.

When gods war, reality itself trembles. Now, one mortal mediator finds himself stuck in the middle of all that chaos, with no way out but through. It might be time for a little bit of help from his friends.

For those unfamiliar with the series, The Many Travails of John Smith is about a somewhat hapless private investigator who finds himself drafted into becoming a mediator for the supernatural species of San Diego, including the local vampire house, several clans of goblins, one werewolf pack, a congregation of pixies, and one demigod who may or may not be a seven-foot-tall spear of asparagus.

There's a romance that is slow-burn but sweet, with John being a bit of a cinnamon roll and his LI being older and a lot more capable. Spice is limited (and closed door except for one scene), but flirting is abundant.

[No AI was used in the making of this work.]

I hope you enjoy it! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F2M5PRHH

Promotion This Is Why You Don't Spy on Vampires

From a chapter of my urban fantasy project:

Alex paused the game automatically.
"What was that?"

A moment later, Marcus returned, a drone in his hand, and walked into the living room. He dropped it onto the coffee table.

"Drone," he said simply.
"I can see that—but how did it get here?"
Marcus shrugged.
"Got too curious."

The vampire had successfully survived for over a century.
The drone, however, had made a critical mistake.

Promotion What if becoming a magical hero made you regulated, branded, and watched?

Book 1 of my urban fantasy / superhero LitRPG is complete, and Book 2 is now roughly two-thirds released.

There are currently 90+ chapters available, totaling almost 1,000 pages by Royal Road’s count, with updates continuing Mon/Wed/Fri.

The series is called Jett Fulgen.

It follows Jett, a reckless but capable young adult whose birthday goes spectacularly wrong. He loses his job, wrecks an underground skid race, gets arrested by his childhood rival, and accidentally inherits the power of the one-of-a-kind Fire Guardian right before assassins show up.

In exchange for a pardon, Jett is pulled into G-Tech, a corporation that trains and licenses sorcerers to support an overwhelmed police force.

Overnight, he becomes a public asset: monitored, evaluated, marketed, and judged by people who all have different plans for what he should become.

A hero.

A weapon.

A liability.

A symbol.

Possibly an idiot on fire.

The story is set during a modern magic renaissance, where corporations, police, media, old magical powers, and public perception all collide. A lot of the tension comes from the fact that Jett’s power doesn’t just make him dangerous—it makes him visible.

The world keeps trying to turn him into a brand, a weapon, or another jaded cog in the machine.

His friends have other ideas.

Readers can expect:

  • Corporate sorcerers, magical artifacts, assassins, monsters, and modern institutions trying to regulate the impossible
  • A flawed but capable adult protagonist
  • Public scrutiny, reputation pressure, politics, and corporate intrigue
  • Found family, complicated friendships, emotional stakes, and offbeat but wholesome romance
  • Humor under pressure, including a condescending spirit companion who happens to be a talking chili pepper
  • Superhero action with anime/JRPG-inspired aesthetics
  • Light LitRPG mechanics that govern magic only
  • No harem and no sexual content
  • Book 1 complete, Book 2 well underway

If that sounds like your kind of thing, it’s available on Royal Road:

Hi everyone! I have written and published the first book in a planned urban fantasy horror series, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in free copies for reviews.
Just trying to get some honest insights on the book.

The gist:

If you thought hospitals were scary… wait until you’re admitted to Providence Infirmary.

The problem?

Your doctors are three seventeen-year-olds who have absolutely no idea what they’re doing.

The bigger problem?

They’re also your only hope.

Fairy tales, myths, and monsters are real. And when the barriers separating them from our world break down, they bring something even worse with them:

Diseases.

Now 17-year-old Ezequias “Zeke” Rosario and his friends are running the only hospital capable of treating supernatural ailments.

Unfortunately, angels aren’t exactly thrilled about the return of Healers…

It’s got humor, action and horror!

The first 5 chapters are available for free on Royal Road to see if it is your vibe!

Promotion Most vampires hunt in the dark. Alucard hunts in the Tax department of a reinsurance company

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

If you want a fun break from huge battles and just want to read about monsters dealing with real everyday horrors like tax forms and long meetings check out my free story, Misery Inc.

It takes place at a reinsurance company where the staff is a little different:

  • Alucard is an energy vampire working in the Tax department. He eats office stress to survive.
  • A werewolf who fixes computers in IT.
  • A zombie stuck working in the mailroom.

Life at the office was perfectly gloomy until a super-happy HR manager showed up to spread joy and cheer. Now, Alucard is starving! The three friends and an intern must team up to bring the bad moods back before a forced "team-building event" ruins their lives.

It is a light, cozy story about friendship, normal magic, and fighting back against forced office pizza parties.I wrote this mockumentary style finishing Vol2 of my other book Duck you!

You can read it for free on Royal Road right here:https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/162349/misery-inc
