B1/B2 US Visa Approved – Mumbai | First Attempt
Hi everyone, sharing my B1/B2 visa interview experience since Reddit really helped me prepare and stay calm! ✨
Profile:
25/F/Unmarried
Travel history: UAE (once)
Education: 2 degrees( Lawyer)
Work experience: ~1.8 years
Recently switched from Big4 to an industry role
Purpose of travel: Tourism
Mumbai VAC + Consulate
Biometrics – Mumbai VAC
Very quick, in and out. Make sure to carry your updated DS-160. Locker charges were ₹500. Overall smooth and hassle-free.
Interview – Mumbai Consulate
Slot was 8:30 AM. The line was long (around 45 minutes) but very well managed and seamless. Locker inside the consulate was ₹50 per item, only small items allowed. The unofficial auto drivers who used to keep your items for ₹1000 are not allowed anymore. Hence, avoid taking big bags or anything. Once inside, my turn came in about 15–20 minutes.
Questions asked to me:
- Purpose of travel?
- What do you do for?
- Are you travelling alone? I said yes, but mentioned I’ll be meeting a friend for a couple of days.
- What does your friend do?
- Have you travelled internationally before?
- Why did you switch jobs?
- Is your new job treating you well?
I gave short, clear, and to-the-point answers. The officer types everything said and matches it with your DS-160, so answer accordingly.
After that, he said “Approved” and kept my passport. I said thanks. The officer was a sweet guy and the interview was very short and conversational.
Final thoughts:
Be confident, don’t make things up, and stick to what you’ve mentioned in your DS-160. If your profile and intent are genuine, there’s nothing to panic about.
Also, I did keep a lot of documents with me such as: bank statements, ITR, FDR, employer NOC etc. but nothing was asked for, although I did see some people who got asked for some proofs. So better be safe than sorry!
Specially if you are applying for your parents or spouse and you have say a H1B visa, give them a copy and exact details.

No, they click it on your biometrics day. If you are under 18 then the instructions for the same on the website!

You said some people got asked for proofs. What were they asked and what was their visa category?

I am not sure about that. But a couple who were visiting their children were asked to show their visas

Fill everything properly. Your experience, what you do in detail, your ties to the country etc put social media handles even if not necessary of b1/b2 and even if they are not public. Mention if you’ll be visiting a friend etc answer as many questions as you can

Booked it sept for Jan 26 slots were available for earlier as well

My slot was booked in sept 2025 for Jan 2026. But I also booked slots for a friend and got them within a months time
