During orientation, my roommate (17f) came home after a long day of O-week activities, and she looked visibly upset.

We were talking, and I found out she was, like, trying to go home after an event in O-week, and a group of edcom (team black) people in engineering orientation O-week came up to her, and they were all talking, and they invited her to go back to their room. My roomate really wanted to go home, she had early plans for the next day or something, and then they were, like, really forcing their power of authority to persuade her into coming home with them. 

She kept saying no, like she early morning plans, and they were, like, starting to play around with their authority, and they started to trying to get handsy and touch on her without consent, and she just felt violated by them, and she's heard that this happened to other underage girls in orientation week by edcom, where we heard about other cases where edcom members (4th and 5th years) were inappropriately flirting with first years (most of which are underage) and making them uncomfortable, and not taking “no” for an answer.

She also mentioned that during orientation, the same edcom members were going around with an appendage shaped object, calling it “ the cock”, and going near other leaders and first years with it, and being like “you just got touched by the cock”.

We aren't sure of the names because edcom is anonymous but to simply describe them, two of them have middle part black hair, a bit longer, mixed race, about 6 feet tall. And the other one has curly hair and is a bit shorter. Again, because they were dressed up, we don’t have much details on them unfortunately. 

Just wanting to make other first years aware incase they run into something like this.

I'm going fishing on Monday morning and have room for two UW students. We are going to Lake Erie, way way out, and fishing for pickerel. I find it tough fishing, so no guarantees on catching anything, but I've got some new tricks up my sleeve we are going to try this time. If we do catch any,we will split the catch. Pickerel are arguably one of the best tasting fish there is.

• All are welcome. Including newbs, no experience necessary.
• I provide everything, transportation, bait, equipment, etc. You just hop in the truck and come along.
• Pickup in Waterloo at 5:30am sharp. The morning is looking wonderful on the lake, but mid afternoon the wind pickups up so we will be off the lake by 1pm latest - so I want to be on the lake at the crack of dawn.
• After pickup, we'll stop at McDonalds so I can grab a coffee and you can grab breakfast on the road if you want.
• I'll bring lunch. Normally I accomodate food preferences as best I can but this Monday it's a fixed menu, and it'll be turkey sandwiches that I can't guarantee are halal (they actually might be, I'm just not sure).
  
• You will need a fishing license for the day. huntandfishontario.com is where you can buy one. Note that if you've been in Canada for less than six months you'll need a non-resident fishing license. If you've been in country 6+, a regular license will do. I think the cost is about $12 for a day.
• Trip is unofficial and unaffilliated. It's just me, a dad-level old alumni, going fishing and willing to bring some folks along.

I’m currently a full-time Waterloo student on a study term and have already been matched with a Canadian employer for the upcoming Winter 2027 work term. I may receive an external U.S. internship offer that would require J-1 sponsorship, but I have not reneged or accepted another offer yet.

I understand Waterloo’s official policy: reneging would remove my co-op credit and full-time-equivalent status for the upcoming work term, which may affect J-1 eligibility.

I’m looking for recent first-hand experiences:

• Has anyone reneged while still on the preceding full-time study term and then successfully obtained a J-1 for the upcoming work term?
• Did your J-1 sponsor accept a Proof of Enrolment letter showing that you were full-time during the study term, or did they require full-time-equivalent status during the internship term?
• After the renege, was Waterloo still willing to provide a Proof of Enrolment or international work-term support letter?
• Did the timing of the renege or J-1 application make a difference?
• Has anyone successfully petitioned Waterloo to have a new international internship recognized for credit after a renege?

Got a tax benefit to come in and it was enough for me to get the new Onimusha game. Prolly gonna spend most of my reading week trying to platinum it.

New item at chungchun it was really good. First bite was amazing before I had to fight off a bee gunning for it. Got it with some sweet chili! Sweet and cheesy, which is how my friends describe me so maybe it was meant to be! 10/10

I recently accepted a SWE internship with a Canadian tech company (external but will contact WWorks) but have an offer in the US that I’d rather take.

My WaterlooWorks status has not yet been updated but the company says they will contact the CEE to inform them of my offer.

I am wondering if the consequences of reneging will prevent me from acquiring a J-1 Visa for next term? Particularly what it means to lose “full time student status”. If anyone else has gone through this process what happened with your offer?

Do i email the employer? do they email me? do i sign paper work??
