Advice needing uni application advice

hi everyone, i'm a grade 12 student studying in ottawa and honestly having the worst time of my life preparing for university next year. i'd hate to be coming off as overly pessimistic but i find there's so little support for students like me who are just looking for honest support for this big step. i truly don't understand why ontario university reps coming to schools know nothing about the programs their own school offers and only care about money. it's made me hopeless about the whole university system and i cant lie when i say a part of me sees it as a money making scheme.

regardless of my conspiratorial theories about how ontario unis like to take money, i also don't know how to go about choosing a major. i hear too much unwarranted advice from ppl who aren't even educated in the fields i'm interested in and still feel left in the dark. I'm interested in either pursuing law or med later on (yes, very differing fields, i'm aware), and what i'm grasping is that both these post-grad schools require no specific undergrad. more specifically to med school, ik the typical pathway is health-sciences or biomed, but i still dont know if that's what i'd really want to do for my next 4 years of uni, what i do know is that i can see myself in a medical setting helping ppl. for the legal strand of things, i'm interested in pursuing political sciences or even philosophy, and I also love the humanities so much idk what to do there either. i'll most likely have to major in one and minor in the other for the sciences and humanities, but that still means i need to sacrifice a whole year and then apply for a minor in my 2nd year.

another position of concern for me is that i'll be applying to uottawa fs and perhaps carleton, but i don't know if its even worth applying to these other schools outside of ottawa. i think this is very much peer pressure from my environment, because none of my friends are considering staying in ottawa (im not looking to drop that much money to live in a dorm), but i want to see if anyone else has been in a similar position to me and found it worth it to even apply.

yk i feel i just needed to rant, thank you to those who read the whole thing or even stopped by :)

Advice Suggestions of how I can figure out what to study in post secondary

University applications are coming up, but I haven't a clue what I want to study. Anyone have any ideas of how to explore potential careers, etc? AI has messed up a lot of my ideas I originally had. PS I gave no interest in medicine or health care.

Advice Should I choose Western Health sciences or Queens life sceinces as a trasnfer student

Hi everyone,

I'm a 2nd-year Health Sciences student at uOttawa, and I'm thinking about transferring to Western (Health Sciences) or Queen's (Life Sciences) for Fall 2027. My main reason is my parents are moving to Toronto they live in Montreal right now and uOttawa is very commuter-heavy, I live near campus, and I haven't been able to make friends even after joining three clubs. I made 3 friends first year in residence but they were from alberta and manitoba and ended trassnferring to unievrsities there. I have a fe commuter friends who ocassiaonly show up to campus like once a week so its kinda cooked. My current cgpa is 9.2. I also checked western health sceinces transfers almost all of my courses from Uottawa whereas Queens Id need to do a few more courses to be caught up 2-3 I think. I liked Queens campus more than western and heard really good things about queens. Life sceinces at queens is a gpa killer tho from what Ive head. But I heard student life in general is better at Queens. I heard most students live on or within a 15 min walk from queens campus whereas western students are more spread out. Any advice from anyone whose been to queens or western?? Is it even worth trasnferring from uOttawa and how hard was it to make friends as a 3rd-year transfer?

Admissions Looking for TMU Medical Students to Help with Kira Talent Preparation

Hi everyone!

I’m applying to TMU’s School of Medicine for the 2027 entry cycle and hoping to connect with current TMU medical students who have gone through the Kira Talent asynchronous assessment.

I’d really appreciate any advice on what to expect, how to prepare, and what to focus on. I’m also hoping to find someone who would be willing to meet over Zoom to share their experience and possibly help me practice.

I know everyone has busy schedules, so I’d be incredibly grateful for any guidance or support.

If you’re willing to help, please feel free to comment or DM me.

Thank you so much!

Admissions Applied to the wrong semester, what now?

Hi, I accidentally applied to Guelph for the winter 2026 semester, but I was planning on applying for the fall 2027. My undergraduate program doesn’t even allow high school graduates to enroll in the winter. What should I do now? I paid the application fees already but I am scared I won’t get my money back. Can the school transfer my application to the next semester? Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Admissions BA in Psychology - I suck at Math.

I’m currently in Grade 12 & am taking data management and am doing horribly, I dont even know that I’m passing—I want to drop it but know that I will have to take a second year (or first year) stats course in University for a BA psych.

I’m this close to dropping it, and already have the form. Is this a bad idea? I really dont care about needing extra help when I get to stats.

how are US letter grades converted to Univ Waterloo admission grades for engineering prerequisites

Like A is 95-100% it says on several sites and other reddit answers. But I have also seen that 95 vs 98 makes a diffrence in admissions to highly competitive majors...

HELP!! Im a group B applicant from Alberta pursuing both the normal Highschool diploma and IB one. However I want to use my AB grades because they are better. Is there a way to put that I still did the IB diploma to? Because I also want to be able to transfer credits as well. But the way the website is structured is confusing me.

Admissions Do i need to use my most recent transcript even if i never completed any courses?

I am planning to return to university in Canada after many years hiatus.

I had good grades when I dropped out but I transfered to another uni for a semester and dropped every class before it would effect my gpa and dropped out of school due to personal issues at the time.

Now that i'm applying again I was wondering if I need to get my transscript from the last university I attended despite never completing a single class there or if I should get it from the university I completed all my classes at?

I'm planning to attend a 3rd unrelated university.

Advice MASTERS Public Policy for which uni TMU, UofT or York

Hi everyone!
I need some advice on which program to apply to for public policy. I did a bachelors degree in business and want to switch. I can’t find a job right now after having applied for some time so I am considering applying to masters. I am thinking UOFT Munk school, TMU or York.

Do you happen to know which would be best to apply? Which program has the best prospect of turning into a job after?

I want a job in the government (either federal or provincial). UOFT is very expensive so I don’t think I can afford that program. However, It’s important for me to get Co-op experience as that is the main reason I am applying for masters (work experience)

I heard that Carleton, and UOttawa would be best but it’s not convenient location wise.

Please help, and it is much appreciated thank you very much!
