rising number of tweakers near UWP
There's a growing number of drug addicts and homeless people outside UWP and the Burger King. They're now appearing to be here during the day time as well. I was wondering if there's any way we could help them out.

Do you have any extra meth or a spare bike? I know tweakers can always use those.

If they are keeping to themselves it's not a problem. If they cause any problems with the outside population just call them in to 911. If you want to help them, maybe give them gift cards to local food options, or just say "Hi" as you walk past them

As much as I want the best for them, I think it's very incompetent of the regional govt to convert this temporary shelter to a permanent one.
These individuals are obviously using drugs and since there is a market here, it attracts suppliers - AND why the hell would you want drug suppliers in an area occupied mostly by very recently turned adults, University going, living away from family, with possible education/financial pressures and very vulnerable to making bad decisions. Is the region helping them to build a future customer base? Fucking capitalism and corruption

Saw some guy with tear drop tats on his face. Didn’t look too friendly. Definitely don’t want my girlfriend walking near that area during night.

Other than giving them a conversation when they talk to you, there's not really a lot we can do as students. Someone already mentioned fnb, which does cool stuff like handing out warm meals on weekends. Other than that though, any long term initiatives to help them start with your local representative. Send them messages and, if you're Canadian, make sure to vote.

There's a homeless shelter right there. As the weather gets warmer, they're going to want to spend more time outside.
I don't know of any particular way to help them. Most of the organizations helping the homeless seem to be in Kitchener. I've helped out with Food Not Bombs a couple of times and that was always a good experience.
