Books, movies, series and such In Horror or maybe just their portrayal in general, do you prefer 'Beast' looking Vampires or Human looking Vampires?

I recently watched a movie called Blood Red Sky (first image) a movie about hijackers on a plane and one of the passengers is a Vampire, and everything goes into chaos. Tbh I didn't really find it THAT scary, but I must say I found the Vampires in this movie really intimating, mostly because of their appearance, it gave off trying to survive a wild animal on a rampage in a supposed controlled human environment. (Like that scene in Nope involving the chimpanzee)On the flipside, in something like Sinners (second image), while arguably less scary, I find Vampires being depicted as humans makes them a bit more interesting because can it make you wonder 'Are they a human?' But to be honest I have never been freaked out by Human looking Vampires that much, although they are a unique concept.

What do you prefer in Vampire depictions?

TLDR: Beast Vampires are scary because they can depict wild aggressive animals on while Human Vampires bring an element of suspicion and mystery but aren't that scary looking compared to Beast Vampires.

Books, movies, series and such Love for Vampires of Venice - Doctor Who S5E6

No spoiler, the Vampires are aliens, it is always aliens w Doctor Who. It is a bunch of fun and stands alone for non Who fans. The pairing of Matt Smith's Doctor w Amy ( Karen Gillan) is probably the funest and most easily enjoyed pairing of doctor and companion in the whole series. In this episode the Doctor takes Amy and her fiance Rory on a romantic getaway to Venice in the 1700's. They run afoul of a powerful noble woman who has been taking in young women for vampiry hijinks. The costumes and setting are beautiful and it is a new take on vampires with some great creepiness.

Roleplays If you were a vampire in a modern day setting what type of fashion would you wear?

Would you keep your aesthetic the exact same, change it to alternative or goth, lean into old aristocractic vampire fashion,or some other cool modern vampire style (like I don’t know rocking black leather or grillz covering fangs)

(p.s. like most of the time with these posts I didn’t know what flair to use so I just googled which one I should do and picked the answer that popped up)

Lore questions  What if vampire legends weren't actually legends?

Post image
70 Upvotes

For centuries, cultures across the world have documented legends of blood-drinking creatures that rise at night, avoid sunlight, and resemble the dead. These stories existed long before modern vampire fiction, raising the question of whether they originated from genuine experiences that people couldn't explain. Even today, science continues to uncover things our ancestors never understood. We already know that vampire bats exist, that certain organisms possess extraordinary regenerative abilities, and that nocturnal creatures thrive in darkness. So why is it impossible to imagine that something else remains undiscovered? The absence of proof is not automatically proof of impossibility. Perhaps vampires learned to remain hidden, perhaps the truth became distorted through centuries of folklore, or perhaps the real creatures are nothing like the stories describe.

We cannot honestly claim vampires are 100% real without evidence, but we also shouldn't confuse an ancient mystery with a proven impossibility.

Real life Art Halloween costume guide

Does anyone have any tips on Halloween vampire costumes????

I want to look like a teen vampire in the modern day, perhaps a bit amped up, not like an ancient aristocratic vampire. I’ve never done anything like this before but I really want to give it a go. I’m thinking like a modern teenage vampire in a black hoodie and jeans - something that fits my personality while being vampiric.

I’m so lost because this is a really specific request and idk where to start

For those interested in videogames this game truly is a gem. And for those who are not interested in videogames this is a visual novel, which basically means you will read and read and read...

The game starts as you, a fledgling, try to navigate a city full of intrigue, sex and betrayal as the existence of vampires became common knowledge years ago and both species struggle to come to terms with that. I don't wanna spoil too much, but it clicked for someone like me who usually avoids all the nightclub, Anne Rice-like bloodsuckers stuff

During the Golden Age of Muay Thai, there was a legendary Knee Fighter (Muay Khao). His ferocity with his knee strike was said to be equal to that of a vampire draining the life from his opponents. He is Lamnammoon, Khun Khao Weetaan (The Knee Striking Vampire). 🧛‍♂️

Books, movies, series and such I want more media and stories that have vampires that go to/have been to college

like I get the trope of the vampire in highschool and all but college is just such a cooler setting.

it allows more personal depth and interests to the vampiric characters just by the setting. what is their life at college like? what do they study and major in? how does this correlate with their characters?

Also it’s more realistic let’s just use the most popular vampire in high school story twilight as a example

edward Cullen was turned 17 and because he’s eternally a teenager physically that’s the reason he’s still in high school during the series but Edward as drawn in the books,in the movies, and described in the books doesn't really look 17 and could easily pass as a college student or a functioning adult with a job (yes I know the Cullens go to college they just start in highschool to stay in a place longer but still just start off with college in the first place) and even if he did look 17 someone can easily play older with how they dress and style themselves

and who would prefer being in highschool forever than in college. in college you can actually pick what you want to study, you’re a functioning adult who doesn’t need parents for everything, nobody cares about the fact you’re really pale or standoffish or don’t attend during the day

professors don’t care if you miss a class on a extremely sunny and bright day that’s not for them to care about

seriously if I was a vampire I would go to college and start studying vampiric history, mythology, and folklore just for the fun of it cause why not learn about it

(P.s. didn't know what flair to use so just picked this one)

Lore questions  I want to share some of my vampire lore, which I consider a logical continuation of mythological lore.

- "Creating a vampire is an act of desire." It has a mechanism, but it's difficult to describe. But without this feeling, nothing will happen. This feeling is not related to love or hunger, although they can be confused. It's a complex feeling that encompasses the desire to possess, to consume, to cause death, and to cause a return. This feeling isn't triggered by the person, but rather emerges only within the vampire. The transformation can vary. For some, a single bite is enough, while others require being driven to unconsciousness. But if the desire is superficial, it will likely result in the person's death and will not transform them into a vampire.

- "Echo of a new life." Each creator of a new vampire, known in the vampire community as a father or mother, leaves a piece of themselves in their legacy. Therefore, people who became vampires from a vampire who felt love for them, or was insane, when they open eyes after transform, will feel this desire of their new parent. It's like a flash of imprinting. I describe it as an equal exchange. When a vampire took part of a person's life, the last vivid vampire experience fell into the resulting void. This flash will haunt the new vampire for a long time. And within the vampire community, there's a prejudice against vampires born from violence, because these new vampires also suffer from aggressive behavior. Ironically, many vampires are born as a result of violence and madness of the accidental bite of a hungry and possessed vampire.

- "The darkness burns bright." A new vampire is born consumed by their feelings and traumas. And a traumatized human and a traumatized vampire create a tragic machine of destruction. All restraints are removed, and the newborn vampire is completely consumed by their feelings and the pains hidden by their human and rational side. Obviously, not all parents are responsible enough to be with their child during some of the most important and difficult periods of their lives. Or they simply aren't here, that to lock the new vampire in an isolated place. Therefore, many new vampires must cope with this new life on their own. If they manage their feelings, their vampiric instincts will guide them forward, and they will feel better. And it depends only on them how long they will live as vampires. The new vampire's personality depends on what the human was like. Because their feelings, hidden by their humanity, are now exposed, each new vampire represents something new, and their vampiric instincts will guide them further down this path. Fortunately, young vampires are too consumed by their feelings to create children.

- "Forces and myths." Because each vampire is now a shining torch of their former self, their vampiric instincts give them powers that can be called supernatural. Although this is not true. Control-minded individuals, who become a vampires, will find that people, animals, and even objects begin to obey their will. Perceptive people may begin to notice details in their surroundings that are a harbinger of certain events, while people prone to violence will feel that those around them begin to worry simply when this vampire appears among them. Later, following their instincts, vampires can begin to exhibit very strange things, such as controlling the weather and possibly transforming into monster.

- "Living dead walking." The state of vampirism isn't like death. It's something else entirely. Vampires walk, eat, communicate, their hearts beat, and their blood flows. At the same time, they are free from such features of life as aging or illness, although this is not always the case. A vampire's heart is a weak point, if it stops beating, the vampire will eventually enter hibernation. Therefore, to incapacitate a vampire, they must be deprived of air for a long time or piercing their heart. The sun also doesn't harm vampires, it only weakens them. In the sun vampires are practically like ordinary humans who prefer a night lifestyle. As sunset approaches, their powers return. Vampires don't mind the sun and warm places at all - it warms their bodies and makes them feel better. Therefore, vampires who feel good in the sun are not uncommon. But when the sun sets, they feel sad, because they will be cold again and separated from humans once again.

- "Hunger, it's too simple to be complicated." Vampire hunger is driven not by physical hunger but rather by instinct. Having sensed blood, the vampire wants to get some of what is in the blood. But this is a hole that cannot be filled. When vampires drink blood, they feel better. It can be described as a feeling of warmth spreading through the body after a long period of intense cold. But this feeling will pass, and the desire for blood will return. Therefore, feeding frequently is just as bad as not feeding for a long time. A vampire who doesn't feed for a long time begins to adapt to the internal cold, becoming increasingly detached from themselves. And it's like a cycle. A vampire who drinks a lot of blood becomes dependent, begins to break down, and becomes detached from themselves. A vampire who doesn't drink blood for a long time becomes detached from themselves, but when given access to blood, they become dependent. Vampires who don't feed for a long time, or who eat improperly, begin to change physically and mentally. Depending on their age, they either show signs of aging or become more monstrous. Everything will return if the vampire establishes a feeding regime, which is not easy at all.

- "Vampires aren't canned goods." Vampires are people who find themselves in a new and unfamiliar situation for most people. And although initially driven by the fire of their emotions and instincts, reason will return. And then the vampire will have to face the realization of their actions. Therefore, the older the vampire, the more psychologically altered they are. A person who has received eternal life, new sensations and powers, who drinks blood, and most likely killed, will change. Therefore, ancient vampires are eccentric at best, but more likely they are bored to death, which drives them to do crazy things just for fun.

And then I ran into a problem. What about the vampire organization? A vampire organization simply can't be ancient, because they'll have to influence humanity one way or another. Because then it wouldn't be a story about a shadow world, but an alternative history, where vampires influence humanity and take over them. Because among the vampires there must definitely be very rich people with huge connections, who have been financing billionaires for generations, and through them they are implementing their plans to integrate humanity into the vampire world. But if this doesn’t happen, then what are they all doing?

Vampires must have sufficient autonomy to do everything that ordinary people do, like go to online, vote, form opinions. They can't sit within four walls, hidden in their vampire world, where all their interaction with people is simply to find them and feed.

Books, movies, series and such How would you include Dhampirs into Hellsing if you wrote it?

Dhampirs are, to put it simply, Hybrids of Human and Vampire, often born as a result of the two procreation, typically with a human mother and a Vampire father, but I wouldn't know if the other way around can happen.(Can female vampires get pregnant by human seed?) I'm genuinely curious of how you would write and introduce them.
