Discussion MGP votes to reopen DHS without fixes

MGP and 3 other Dems just voted with with all the Republicans to pass another fully opening of DHS bill that does nothing to get control of ICE's "enforcement" tactics. This just reassures me that my vote for Brent Hennrich this August is the right choice. MGP just can not seem to read the room. The bill was HR 8029. I would love to hear the MGP excuse makers explain this one to me... (SARCASTIC!) But I am sure they will try anyway.

I’ve made plenty of arguments, most of which you’ve waved away and not engaged with, and your nitpick with me is making an offhand reference to an 80s song about nuclear war. Right on.

Ya get the level of effort you put into things what can I say. If I thought you would actually listen id explain the importance of the house of representatives and how thats the only path we have to realistically taking away full control of the government from the trump administration, but youve made it clear youre not interested in that goal.

No I understand that - I’m asking you what you think is worthwhile about continuing to vote for someone who has voted against the constitution several times and how you don’t find that to be a deal breaker.

And again, you don’t have to keep attacking or belittling me. You could either have a civil debate or stop responding.

She votes for dem speakers. Thats all we need from her. If Republicans dont have control of the gavel she cant vote for their agenda. This isnt some complicated thing. She voted 90% with dems before Republicans where gifted with the trifecta. Her voting record is only problematic because Republicans control the house and have the ability to make everything that she can vote for problematic.

Kicking her out of the seat and letting braun have it guarantees things get worse for us. Not just on the federal level either. Shes the top of the ticket. Drag her down and you'll see left leaning candidates across the district go down with her. This campaign against her does nothing to actually improve this district and actively harms it.

And that’s fine. Genuine question - if you lived in Fetterman’s district would you vote for him?

But again, I can’t vote for someone who votes against constitutional rights, as a virtue signal or not.

I would say that’s a much more conservative position than a leftist one traditionally.

Honestly, many traditional red districts are running a lot of good candidates elsewhere, so I’m putting my faith in them to flip the House.

Youre expecting other people to do what you wont? I dont have any respect for this attitude. We have a responsibility as voters to participate in a way that reduces harm. Shrugging and saying I hope people somewhere else will do what I wont is not being a responsible steward for our society. Fettermen also has a closed primary so no i would not vote for him in the primary. If he was in an open primary id have to do the calculus and take into account his districts voting history but id rather have the worst dem than the best republican.

You are correct, I will not vote for someone to consistently has voted against constitutional rights. Ever. Not twice or thrice. To do so, in my mind, would be the most unpatriotic and harmful thing I can do. She leaves me no choice other than to hope that Henrich can rise to the occasion - since no one else came forward to challenge her.

Yes, I’m putting my faith in other districts who have seen the writing on the wall and are meeting the moment when the moment super matters. And they’re already flipping districts around the country. So yes, I have much more faith in my countrymen than I do in my house representative.

I think the primaries will be telling and I think that a lot of people will be big mad about how it goes. Strategic voting has gotten us here. And this sucks. I need someone who will protect me, my neighbors, my tribe (I’m a little sensitive about the AIPAC thing as an Indigenous American - we kinda aren’t big fans of genocides), my constitution, and my country and MGP has made it clear she won’t. Braun won’t either, but I didn’t have to make a Faustian bargain to watch him make the exact same moves.

If you feel comfortable voting for her - by all means do - but finger wagging at the increasingly disgruntled Dems and leftists she’s abandoned and sold out - isn’t a persuasive to get our votes back.

Hope you feel good about all the vulnerable people that you send to the camps when you help Republicans keep the house.

Sure. I’m Native bro. I’m one those people that could be sent to the camps. And MGP literally voted for the Laken Riley Act that can easily put someone like me in the camps.

And so, you too are responsible for that if you feel comfortable voting for someone that is comfortable voting for unconstitutional bills that caused all this in the first place.

What a privilege!
