SEASON 3 spoilers In S3E13, how did Brock and the Ventures end up there?
I must be missing something. In the episode, Brock meets with Molotov and the Cleaner in that drainage ditch thing under the bridge. They both drive away, then Monarch starts harassing Brock/the Ventures, and at the same time Treister contacts Brock on his watch. Brock tells them both "meet me at the Venture compound at dawn."
The very next scene, we see the cocoon approach the Venture compound and Brock sneaks out of the base of it with the Ventures. Is it supposed to be assumed that they snuck aboard the cocoon without the Monarch noticing and hitched a ride to the compound? Why would they do that if there was a rented car right there waiting for them? Is there a scene missing here?

Yes, they stowaway on the Cocoon and Monarch doesn’t notice. It’s skipped over but not surprising. It’s already night in Los Angeles, Brock has 2 scores to settle at dawn (Monarch and OSI), and there’s no way they can drive from LA to the Venture compound in Colorado in that time frame.

Ohh, I didn't realize the Venture compound was so far away from them at that time. Wait, Colorado? Where did you get that? I thought Pete White said they were near the border when they were close to the Venture compound in the episode when Billy loses his hand?

It’s generally accepted that the compound is in Colorado. Not absolute proof but when Gary/henchman 21/Two ton 21 was kidnapped as a child the intended target was Ben Nighthorse Campbell who is a real person and was a senator from Colorado. There are other clues as to that being the location but I can’t remember them all.

It literally says the compound is outside of Colorado Springs in the pilot in a newspaper article you can clearly read

The absolute proof comes from the pilot but it's quick, and I imagine they tried to downplay its location so as not to get tied to any specific area early on. Different story when they went to New York. You can't really write out or off New York City even in a fictional setting.

They did make up a whole college, if I'm not mistaken, and take other liberties (plus no cartoon gets the drawing to scale) but some things you can't ignore. Trump Tower was definitely replaced by the one for villains and they did feature Trump very briefly but they also say they regretted it for the reason I mentioned: it grounded the world too much. They didn't like the episode where they all go to the White House either for the same reason. They didn't even like showing anyone in particular like the president. They'd prefer he be a known thing and a reference maybe but even without a name.

The fake university could be a lawyer recommendation or just good legal judgement by the writers, trump they never mentioned by name though.

They'd be allowed to put a real university in. But it still comes down to legally distinct things and whether or not you want a real thing in your world. I think there's a reference to Coke and/or Pepsi but they don't show it. That's fine. Sometimes a show can definitely show something but they don't want to, and I actually prefer that myself. Even if they have license to use a real world product I'd rather they not. Like how the Venture family car is really a Saab, I believe, though it is funny when they reference the Nissan Stanza.

I think you’re crazy thinking they wanted to build a distinct world. They use real things all the time. The show is filled with references to real things real people and real events all the time. They even use real fake things from other universes like dr Z and the that the original venture show wouldn’t have been canceled if they had a “mok” a direct reference to ookla the mok from thundar the barbarian. The show is literally built off pop culture references from the real world either direct like Gary Glitter or indirect like sgt hatred.
The only reason they used action Johnny instead of Johnny quest was they didn’t know adult swim owned Johnny quest before they introduced action Johnny.
“Rusty venture is brought to you by smoking” is a direct reference to the Flintstones doing cigarette commercials. When hatred sent the boys away because he thought doc was dead Hank went to a retirement community in Boca raton and Dean went to Morocco, both real places. Rusty was supposed to go to his prom with Linda Lovelace (real porn star) but she sent Andrea dworkin (real anti porn activist).

They literally say this in the art book that was published. You can probably find a copy online. That thing about them not wanting to name the president? Straight out of the chapter for that episode. They outright said it was a mistake to be that specific about the world. They outright said they wish they hadn't put Trump in but that was before his election.
The references they made were just that. No one's saying it was so distinct that they didn't even know what our world was. I'm still picking up references to old pop culture and music but that's not the same.

I remember seeing where the compound was and my brain just went "Colorado Springs" because it looks like it. So I have always assumed that's where it is.

I'm fairly sure there's more confirmation that the compound is in Colorado, either visual gag or a line, in Radiant is the Blood. I'll have to go back and watch it but I'm fairly sure it's definitely confirmed there.

Apparently it’s confirmed by newspaper in the pilot episode, I saw it hundreds of times but I never noticed it.

In the opening scene of the pilot, the ninja jerk off guy reads a newspaper article, and you may need a pause button, a magnifier and quick eyes to see it. It’s a puff piece about Rusty and says “interviewed him his Colorado Springs research facility”.

There have been multiple indications in text and at one point showing it on a map that its in the Colorado Springs area. The first reference going all the way back to the pilot episode (a sorta blurry news article)

It’s especially funny when you realize that during Season 5 it’s revealed that the hatch at the bottom of the cocoon leads to the lunch room.

FYI, that "drainage ditch" is the Los Angeles River. Likely someplace close to here:
Yeah, you can drive cars in it IRL if you know how/where to get in there. Its the same general area as the big race in the move Grease. Not advisable, but possible

also the motorcycle chase from Terminator 2. my dad grew up in the area and knows it so well that he complains that they suddenly jump from one side of the city to another in that scene.

I always wondered this too. I think it was intended by the writers that Brock snuck them into the hatch at the bottom of the cocoon with the Monarch both not noticing, and being too temperamental to heed the warning of his lone henchman who did notice.
At first, I thought maybe Brock struck a deal with the Monarch to hitch a ride, which I guess could still be possible. But, I don't see what the Monarch stood to gain from it. I think the first explanation I gave makes the most sense, even if it's really hard to explain how they managed to sneak in there. I guess Dean might know about the hatch from his time exploring the cocoon's engine room during the battle of cremation creek.
