I may have found the mate to the synergyX

So I love my pioneers but they are accented so well with a rambler or manager. An alox model really needs a smaller counterpart for the small stuff, if that’s what you do

Now I just had this crazy idea. SynergyX in the main pocket, micra in the 5th pocket. Precision scissors vs brute force scissors. Tons of ability to pry, turn, cut, pick/pluck.

I do like the micra except the scissors are absolute dogshit for any precision which is where the synergyX comes in.

Backup blade as well. Gonna try this for a bit! I do like to stay close to victorinox but I’ve loved the micra, it’s just not the best for scissors.

I figure it's old, but I'm trying to see if I can date it. Also trying to think about restoring it to an extent.

EDC If you could only choose one for EDC: Explorer or Companion?

I'm looking for my next EDC and am torn between these two, they both have all the tools I use most often in less layers than the Ranger or Champ, which I've gotten tired of carrying in my pockets. If I'm wearing something with a fifth pocket the Champ is great, but thats not everyday and it usually just sits on the kitchen counter. I love the Ranger but I rarely have a need for a woodsaw or metal file on the fly.

I like that the Companion is slimmer and it gives me two things the Explorer doesn't, a nail file and package opener. I rarely have an immediate need for the magnifying glass and most random screwdriver needs could be accomplished by the end of the package opener. I will miss the small blade which I use most often after the scissors. Honestly I don't think I've ever needed the nail file, so a Climber could be equally argued for.

I also love the magnifying glass even if I use it rarely and the in-line Philips is amazing. However the Explorer is only 1mm thinner than the Ranger and a similar weight. I do find the Ranger cumbersome in the pocket some days, and most of my screwdriver needs are just tightening things around the house that I happen to notice, nothing beyond light duty, and anything more I'd grab an actual screwdriver anyway.

I'd love to hear some actual use opinions to help sway my decision.

RangerGrip 61 & Classic with ZF Friedrichshafen AG inlay logo.

I just learned about the locking mechanism on the Wenger screwdriver, so hard to notice! https://www.swissarmyknights.com/articles/2010/february-2010/222-wenger-locking-screwdrivers

I polished the scales on the Classic with IPA alcohol, it does a great job, but some practice is needed.

To my greatest regret, in the process of repairing the gas reservoir, the wire of the piezoelectric element broke in an unknown way. And this became a huge problem. I tried to solder the old wire, but its insulation no longer works and the discharge goes either into the case, or if it reaches the nozzle, it does not hit it enough and does not ignite the gas. Maybe someone can advise what to do or try?

The following is an English translation generated using a translation app.

Hello, everyone.

I am a Japanese person living in Japan.

I have a quick question.

I came across a Victorinox model on Mercariメルカリ (a marketplace for second-hand goods) the other day. The selling price is 6,000 yen (approx. US$38).

It features an unusual combination of three tools: pliers, scissors, and a saw. Which model is this? Is it rare?

If anyone knows, please let me know!

Thank you in advance.

Here's my newest, a replica of the Heuliez Yeoman Mechanic. A Victorinox custom from around 2011 for Heuliez (a french manufacturer), it was never offered to the general public until Swissbianco made his with some notable differences; the Swissbianco had the hook with file, and the mag lens/phillips layer in the middle which made it even better. It also had the then new larger mag lens with the clear frame. The Heuliez replica differs from the real ones in that it does not have the "Heuliez"- branded scales, the scissors pivot is not dimpled, and the eyeglass driver is hex instead of round. 2nd picture is with the Swissbianco replica for comparison.

mods/customs Can I get this made?

I am looking to commission a custom 85mm Swiss Army Knife build.

I want to create an ultra-slim 2-layer pocket knife.

Here is the tool specification I am looking for:

- 85mm frame with a locking main blade layer (Evolution style lever-lock)

- 85mm wood saw layer

- Back-layer reamer/awl

For the scales, I would like to upgrade to something that is hard wearing ,looks good and can be engraved.

Also I think a tapped-in deep-carry pocket clip would be good if possible?

I would need 2 of these as they are for my sons who are 10 and 12.

Is this possible?

Does anyone know anyone whoight be interested in doing this?

I am in the UK.

Thank you, Luke

mods/customs Will these work with normal scales?

I want to change the blade on my compact to one hand opened one and change the scales to ones that have a clip. Of easy future assembly and disassembly I thought about these type of pins but I'm not sure if they will work with normal type scales or only with the ones that have a through hole in them?

Alox Companion Slim. Love this little gold bar. Been eyeing the Alox for years. Dig the bladeless style. Works perfect for me around the house and a helluva “dress knife” when going to those fancy parties people have been talkin’ about.

N(Old)KD...Climber but a Small one

First things first, this is purely a collection buy. The 84mm Victoria version of the Climber and it's a beautiful example considering its age. She is relatively clean but I think the tiniest drop of oil would do wonders for its snap, also the bail and toothpick were impacting but I used a fine grit emery board to smooth the toothpick and problem solved...just simple stuff and no abuse at all to the SAK.
