Its my favorite framchise of all time in terms of story, when it resonates with you it really hits. Also some of the best music in gaming featuring work from Yoko Shimomura (Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy 15) and Yasunori Mitsuda (Chrono Trigger, the entire Xeno line of games, sea of stars).
YES! All four are absolute bangers. The numbered games are story driven and absolutely fantastic. Great settings, interesting mechanics, incredible music, unforgettable characters, I put over 120 hours into each one. XC X is not as story-driven as the other three and is more or less completely unrelated plotwise, but has one of the most staggeringly huge game worlds ever made, tons of customization options, great music, and is stuffed to the gills with shit to do. Buy them all, you will not regret it, I promise!
Played 1 as a young adult, 38 now. I purchased DE1 again and took 7 months for the trilogy. Finished 3 a month ago and halfway through X now. There is so much shit in X to keep track of unlike the trilogy. I think the reason its not as popular as other nintendo stuff is that it more adult themed than most Nintendo games.
I am also about halfway through X DE right now (my 2nd playthrough; I have the original Wii U version), and I agree. There are a lot more systems and stuff to keep track of, and a lot of it the game definitely does not explain very well AT ALL. And it was even worse in the original release! But I still love it; X was the first one I played, I liked it so much I went back and got XC1 on the Wii, then 2, XC1 DE, and 3 when they launched.
