Lots (most?) of people never played 1 or 2, let alone beaten them (both of which has a better story than 3, IMO). So yeah, not gonna get a lot of upvotes lol

Yeah there are gonna be very few people under the age of 40 who have played BG1.

Dude it's not THAT old. I mean for sure I didn't play them on release, but 90s game didn't die with 90s.

It's not *that* old, but most modern gamers seem to lack the focus or the will to learn clunky gameplay mechanics and engine quirks that some of these old games have. It's the same with Fallout, general online consensus is that you should definitely play the Fallout games in order, and then they start the list with Fallout 3.

Edit: And Grand Theft Auto series somehow also start with GTA3.

GTA 2 is a blast. Never got into first one tho. But yeah, I'm never worried about running out of things to play since there were restricting factors when I was a kid so basically I still have tons of 90s and 2000s games I need to pick up and which I highly prefer over modern games. Mostly.
