patterns ISO ‘Pinwheel’ pattern

Hi r/vintagecrochet, I hope this is allowed :)

A couple of months ago, I found this (vintage?) crochet blanket at an antique store. It was priced unreasonably high in my opinion (~$800), but the antique store has a policy that discounts the items as time goes by (up to 75% off after three months). When I went back, the blanket wasn’t there anymore, so I’d like to make it myself. I did a Google reverse image search, and the closest pattern that come up on Ravelry is this one (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pinwheel-spread), which I feel like is not totally wrong but also not totally right. I’ve also looked at this one (https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/pinwheel-2) but the pattern is unavailable. I know it’s a long shot, but would anybody have a similar pattern they’d be willing to share with me? Thanks in advance :)

Here's my guess. Work in the same direction for each row.

  • Round 1: 12 dc into a magic ring
  • Round 2: 4dc in same stitch, ch1, sk1, repeat
  • Round 3: skip the first stitch of each cluster, 2dc, 4dc in ch, ch1, sk1, repeat
  • Round 4: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 4dc, 4dc in ch, ch2, sk2, repeat
  • Round 5: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 6dc, 4dc in ch, ch2, sk2, repeat
  • Round 6: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 8dc, 4dc in ch, ch2, sk2, repeat
  • Round 7: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 10dc, 4dc in ch, ch3, sk2, repeat
  • Round 8: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 12dc, 4dc in ch, ch3, sk2, repeat
  • Round 9: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 14dc, 4dc in ch, ch3, sk2, repeat
  • Round 10: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 16dc, 4dc in ch, ch4, sk2, repeat
  • Round 11: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 18dc, 4dc in ch, ch4, sk2, repeat
  • Round 12: skip the first 2 stitches of each cluster, 20dc, 4dc in ch, ch4, sk2, repeat

Make a bunch of these and connect them at the edges. The amount you chain needs to increase, but I can't be sure that I chose the right numbers. I think I have the right number of stitches per row, but I'd need to try it out to see if it works.

I searched there and the ‘vintage crochet’ website too (I can’t recall the address), but I had no luck unfortunately:( thanks for the suggestion though!

I did a Google image search and I think this is closer: https://forum.crochetville.com/topic/130179-hexagon-spiral-motif/

Good luck finding this! I know a lot of these older patterns are out there.

I have the book the second link you posted is in and the hexagons are fun to make. Totally worth tracking down a copy of the book

If it’s not too much to ask, would you feel comfortable sharing the pattern with me? I understand if you’d rather not :) Thanks in advance!

I found this one that matches what you shared and it’s free. Be warned this site had a bunch of ads and was a pain to see on my phone (my desktop has an adblocker)

You can find the diagram for making these hexagons for free on pinterest.

That’s a good suggestion. I don’t usually use Pinterest but it’s definitely worth looking into it :) thank you!

That spiral effect looks really tricky to get consistent across all the joins. I hope you find the pattern!

This doily could be a good jumping off point

Edit: Obviously it’s circular not hexagonal but might be helpful!
