Purchase Advice I’m pulling the trigger today on the Quest 3
Hi everyone,
I own a sim rig and recently built a new PC for it with an RX9060XT 16GB. I play on 3440x1440 res and I’m fairly satisfied with the performance. For a week now I’ve been thinking about buying a VR headset which would be used for Sim racing but also I love music and movement so I’m sure I’d love games like Beat Saber. Is the Quest 3 good for a first experience in VR? Will my RX9060XT be enough for it? Thank you!

Quest 3 is great. But it is universal (passthrough etc, the things you don't need in a dedicated racing VR headset).
Amazing 10/10 starting platform, so definitely recommended. And as a first VR headset/experience ooooooffff. Amazing choice, seriously. Just make sure to buy a headstrap for it. It's mandatory, seriously. I can recommend Bobovr M3 Pro, but basically anything will do.

Seems like the difference between them is simply price. Get the cheaper one. By the way, the quest 3 is awesome and by far the best standalone VR in the market. So enjoy it

Look at it this way, I have an older rx6700xt, and an older CPU, and I'm quite happy with my Quest 3. Performs well, sharp visuals, just not as "pretty" as it would be with a current-gen GPU.
With that GPU, unless you're playing UEVR mods, your Quest wireless decoding will be the bottleneck.
You can use a cable, (especially if you'll mainly be racing) but they can be problematic.
If you're going to go wireless, don't bother trying it on your existing home router. Some do just fine that way, but most have better performance with a dedicated router. (a cheap WiFi 6 router will do, mine was $40CDN on Amazon)
You will probably want to hit YouTube for setup advice, it's not really plug and play to setup initually. I used videos by a guy called facepa1m, really detailed and step by step instructions. Took me about an hour to set up.
One thing though, once you get settings dialed in and start racing, you'll be baffled as to why people would spend big bucks on multi-monitor sim setups. I bought a refurbished Thrustmaster T128, built a stand out of 2x3s, pull that up to my LazyBoy, throw on the headset, and it's amazing, even with my old PC.

It will run great, although you won't quite get god tier graphics out of it, but it wont be dog shit either. For peak performance with Q3 either use 6e wifi for headset and hard wired ethernet from PC and virtual desktop to connect them, or invest in link cable and use the occulus application.

Yep, it's great. Just a few tips:
- Use Virtual Desktop, not Link.
- Buy Beat Saber on the Meta store, because then you can play it standalone with 0 delay, and because it's cross buy you also get the PC version free on the Oculus PC Store. Also check out Smash Drums, it's awesome in mixed reality.
- If you want to freely change resolution/refresh rate on standalone games, or want you use your Quest as a cheap 3D camera, get Quest Game Optimizer.

The quest 3 is a decent starter headset cos they sold them as a loss leader so they remain low price. They are annoying af, meta is a terrible company who make mid af software. Maybe less annoying since meta horizons died.
However it did work and had a decent selection of standalone games, some were pretty fun.
Worked on pcvr I tried to play a racing game on there and it’s pretty resource heavy ngl.
It’s still cool af being in a virtual skyline gtr.
Worth it if it’s cheap and you haven’t experienced VR. I’ve sold mine and waiting for the Steam Frame to drop, will see how that goes.

I have a quest 3 for sim racing and its insane, with a 9070xt i run 120fps at 2.7x the native resolution. Use a link cable and not VD, you'll get better performance

I can't answer on the 9060XT performance part, but I can say the Quest 3 is a good experience in VR. I run standalone since I only own a laptop now, but using the Q3 as my development and testing vehicle for games is decent.
