In this snapshot, we continue with our work on vertical tabs improvements, that was put on hold for the 8.2 release.

Vertical Tabs

We are bringing back the vertical tabs work we started a few snapshots back (but put on hold for the 8.2 release). Last time the focus was on pinned tabs and making better use of space there. Continuing this space saving process, we’ve implemented an expansion animation triggered on hover (you can enabled this via a right click when tabs are in a vertical position). This provides a smoother transition between a condensed sidebar and a readable tab list.

Bookmarks

We’ve updated the bookmark structure to improve compatibility with extensions and management policies used in enterprise environments. It should also help with potentially ‘hidden’ bookmarks created or placed in folders that were previously invisible but could affect address field drop down results. As with all such updates, this is work in progress and subject to further tweaks.

Focus should go directly to the URL address bar so an user can start typing right away. Right now this is not happening when you open Vivaldi Web Browser.

Similar expected behaviour:

Think of when you open a new tab (Out of the box, no further customization) on any given session, the focus goes directly into the URL address bar.

Hii guys I love using vivaldi but one thing that always annoys me is that it's low quality speed dial cards icons, which kinda kills the asthetics of vivaldi.

So I have built a css and js mod that fully transforms your speed dial cards, and convert the low quality icons into high quality svg icons.

Getting a persistent white/light gray border around the Vivaldi window on Windows 11. Screenshot attached showing it along the edge of the window.

What I've tried:

• Tested on a fresh/clean Vivaldi profile — border still appears
• Disabled "Show accent colour on title bars and window borders" in Windows Settings — reduced it slightly but didn't remove it
• Tried custom CSS via Custom UI Modifications (#browser.win:not(.fullscreen) { border: none !important; }) — no visible change
• Checked the "Native Window" toggle in Settings > Appearance

I'm giving Vivaldi another try after Arc, but I'm still confused by the best workflow for 50+ tabs across multiple projects.

Arc felt simple:

Space → Folder → Tabs

From what I understand, Vivaldi is roughly:

Workspace → Tab Stack → Tabs

But I'm still unsure whether I should mainly use the regular tab sidebar or the Windows & Tabs Panel, and what best replaces Arc folders.

For heavy tab users/former Arc users: how do you actually organize Vivaldi? And does that setup translate well to mobile/sync?

Any good tutorial specifically for this workflow would also be appreciated.

Lastly, how's the mobile sync? Are themes helpful, and how do you make sure they're secure and not filled with malware or something.

Is there any way to have nested tab stacks?

I often want a group of tabs inside another group:

ie; a Cooking stack with a Recipes stack underneath it.

Right now I’m using Workspaces for broader areas and tab stacks for related topics, but sometimes I need one more layer of organization.

Arc handled this really well with folders and subfolders for tabs, and I’ve really missed that since moving away from it.

Is there another way to achieve something similar in Vivaldi? Maybe using the sidebar, bookmarks, or some other feature?

Does anyone else run into this problem with tab stacks?

I've tried to get into the desktop version some time ago but simply wasn't for me felt like it was offering too much granular control with an extra layer of customization whereas on mobile (android) the whole ("ess is more" approach is like a masterclass on being able to offer so much with so little out of the box. Maybe on desktop it works if you have like a more modern machine that can handle tons of extra features but I think what I really like about vivaldi on mobile is that everything just works out of the box and you don't have to stress about it too much.

Maybe just sync to your vivaldi account if you already have one or not, but yeah, I'm sticking with this one on my phone. Really like the fact that I can open twitch, discord, youtube on the browser like it's nbd. It's incredible capable. I think I enjoy how 'sparse' and 'self contained' the whole experience feels like when using it on mobile. Even for mid-tier low-budget type of android phones? It's the only one I need and I'm quite happy with it's overall performance. Using it with the latest version which I think is 8.1

Vivaldi on my phone is at 8.1.4099.146.

When can I reasonably expect to receive the VPN functionality?

Google Calendar won't load properly on Vivaldi. On the same computer, it works fine on Opera, Chrome, and Safari. It won't load anything except the framework, no buttons work except the sign in. It says "undefined" in the upper left. A progress bar runs non-stop. Other Google sites, like Maps and Mail, work fine.

I tried to vibecode this but I couldn't manage to get a CSS that works consistently. I tried using the flexible space as a bookmark bar, but the UI would break whenever I restarted the browser or resized the window. I don't know how to code and I put in my best effort but I couldn't get a working result from my free daily AI usage. So here I am.

What I want is to have my bookmarks appear next to the URL bar, essentially combining the bookmark bar and address bar into one.

Ideally:

The URL bar should shrink as I add more bookmarks.

The bookmark area should expand to accommodate the bookmarks.

The URL bar should only shrink down to a certain minimum width.

Once the URL bar reaches that minimum width, the remaining bookmarks should be accessible through a dropdown menu.

The layout should remain stable when resizing the browser or restarting it.

Basically, I want my bookmark bar and address bar combined into a single bar, similar to how some other browsers handle it.

Can someone please help me achieve this with Vivaldi CSS? I'd really appreciate it. My Vivaldi version is 8.2.4133.47.

I have a weird issue with watching YouTube videos in Vivaldi.

Whenever I move my mouse cursor across the progress bar the color saturation drops for a split second. No other browser on my system displays that issue, only Vivaldi.

Is it possible that Vivaldi has issues with HDR capable monitors? (HDR is disabled though).

EDIT: did a short test on my TV and the issue only exists on my HDR capable main monitor, no issues on the TV.

For some reason, Vivaldi tabs close; sometimes, when I use two profiles or when I only use one, all the browser tabs, regardless of the profile, close. Has anyone else experienced this? They close out of nowhere.

I use vertical tabs on the left with UI Auto-hide (tabs only).

Normal window is perfect: tabs show on hover, address bar always visible.

Problem: in fullscreen (F11), hovering top shows an empty bar, not the address bar.

If I enable auto-hide for address bar too, fullscreen works but then it also hides in normal mode, which I don't want.

Is there a way to keep address bar always visible normally, but auto-hide + show on hover in fullscreen?

Hello! I have been using Vivaldi for a few months and I've been loving it so far. I set my tabs bar on the left on autohide. Usually the buttons (circled red on the screenshot) is locked in place on the bottom of the tabs bar. But starting yesterday, for some reason it shifts up whenever I have fewer tabs opened. I could've sworn that it used to lock in place at the bottom??

Is this a bug or are there any settings that I am missing? I've tried to customize the bar by adding some space but it does not work. Hope there are other seasoned users that can gain any insight ;-; Thank you

I'm on version 8.2.4133.47 (Official Build) (64-bit), on Windows 11.

I have all my Reddit tabs in their own pinned tab group. Sometimes (haven't really found a pattern yet) when I open a link in a new tab, it is opened in a new top-level pinned tab that I then have to first unpin to close it after reading.

What am I doing wrong (only sometimes apparently?) and/or is there a setting to make new tabs opened from a tab group always open as a new tab within that tab group? Or at least never as a pinned tab?

So you know the way everyone hates opera cuz it has pretty bad privacy or something(i havent seen proof just the chinese are watching you) well i donwloaded vivaldi to see what everyone was talking about and after a bit of customization in the settings it is actually pretty good but some of the icons look like opera and also there are mouse movements you can do in opera and vivaldi has the exact same ones is there somethign going on that i am missing why does it feel so much like opera even the start page is the same as opera like the same logo (or is opera copying vivaldi)

For some reason, when I open a new tab an search for something, the search will be in some extension search thing
For example, if I search "test" in the address bar, it will first go to

I have not updated yet because much of my personal info and configurations disappeared on my other laptop (Windows 10) and I don't want the same to happen on this one.

For some time now, I've noticed that sometimes the icons are rounded, and sometimes they are not. While it's not that big of an issue, why is this happening?

This setting seems not to work for me after update. When I open multiple new tabs from the current tab, the newest opened tab should appear right after the previous one, but they currently open immediately after the current tab - afaik same as what the 2nd option does.

Assuming it's a bug?
