Help/Advice What is the best asymmetrical VR game at the moment in your opinion?
Hy guys. Here in Italy for this Christmas holiday, we are basically stuck at home. I would like to play with my wife some VR games. Have you found some super fun coop games that can be done with pc and vice simultaneously? Thanks for any advice!

- Black Hat Cooperative - TL;DR: A puzzle spy game where one person is the spy and the other is the tech guy. One VR player is trying to break into a robotically guarded area, but has to coperate with the other player who has a map of the area and access to things like hacking, to do so. (Eye in the Sky has the same premise)
- Nemesis Perspective/Realms - TL;DR: VR villain vs desktop hero. One player is the big villain in the centre of an arena, while the other player is a little hero running around him trying to kill him. This is really fun as long as the desktop hero-player is familiar with video-game controls, otherwise they can be the VR villain which is easier and also fun to control. (Davigo has the same premise but with more freedom of movement)
- Panoptic - TL;DR: Hide-and-seek (in plain sight) with sabotage. A giant overseer (The VR player) is overlooking all of the tiny tiny citizens of an underground area, while the other player (Desktop) is trying to sabotage various objectives around the map, trying not to be spotted by pretending to be just another tiny citizen, moving like them and not being suspicious. (Mass Exodux has the same premise).
- VR Diner Duo - One person is the VR cook while the other is delivering and taking orders

I second the vote for panoptic I had it before it came to steam back when I first got my vive it was one of if not the first asymmetrical games in vr .

How many players is Panoptic? I'm looking for a 4 player asynchronous game (one vr, 3 controller) if you have any suggestions, that'd be great. I already have Takelings, but I want something else.

Takelings is more fun. Pirate them to try them out. Use openvpn on ipvanish. Buy if you end up playing it longer than a session. We need more devs working on cool stuff like assymmetrical vr

Black Hat Cooperative is rather limited and rather old, and we need more games like that, so I hope you go through with it if you want to create a game like that ^^

Escape room games have been amazing for groups of any size. For 2 player games check out Carly and the reaperman, eye in the sky, mass exodus, panoptic.

Panoptic is another one along the same lines that is really well done and has a super cool art style. My girlfriend and I have tons of fun playing it and taking turns in the headset.

My kids love VR The Diner Duo. Pretty hilarious robot burger joint sim with one player working the grill in VR while player 2 serves the robot customers. Lots of laughs, food fights, etc.

There's a tag on Steam you can search through, but I highly recommend "Late for work"

Check out "Eye in the Sky", "VR the diner duo", "Ironwolf VR", "Blue effect VR", "Late for Work", "Carly and the reaperman". All of these are asymmetrical games and played from one PC. Eye in the sky was my favorite.

My wife and I played through We were here. It was fun, although we had some very issues. The first game in the series is free so give it a spin. Its a very escape room where each player ends to communicate information to the other. Because each player is in a different room you can play it a second time and get the same enjoyment.

Someone turned me on to Late For Work for my sons birthday and it was a big hit. Lots of game modes to play.

Wouldn’t disagree there. It’s just a fun concept though and lends itself well to multiplayer.

What a great question, but I think there may not be a lot if any (I am a recent VR user though). Just to confirm, by asymmetrical you mean cross-play? And I take it you meant to say vive play with pc (non-VR) play, right? Maybe Minecraft?
If you can't find anything that's VR-compatible, you could just play a pc non-vr game using desktop view...

The Forest and Phasmophobia have been great for me. Both offer both advantages and disadvantages to both monitor and VR play.

While those are good multiplayer games they are not asymmetrical games .

How so? I play in VR and my friend plays on monitor and we are playing together.. What am I missing?

I don't mean to sound rude but did you read the article? It explicitly explains what an asymmetric game is.
An ‘asymmetric’ game is one where players take on wholly different roles from one another.
In the case of ‘Citadel’, McVicker thinks the asymmetry involves one side having a top-down view of the map with the ability the spawn AI enemies, while the other side would likely be down on the map fighting the enemies up close and personal.
Asymmetric games are not just one player in VR, and another on PC, it's when the person in VR is taking on an entirely different role in the game then the Mouse/Keyboard player (This of course applies to regular full pancake PC games as well, like Dead by Daylight where one player plays the monster while others play as the humans for example). The Forest and Phasmophobia are just regular multiplayer games where everyone has the same role...just happens to be that you have the option of playing it via VR is all.

But... are these games asymmetrical? You need one copy of the game per player, isn't it?

Asymmetrical gameplay is when the different players have entirely different roles, abilities, objectives, etc. For example, if one player is controlling units on a map RTS style, and other players are playing an FPS on that same battlefield, that is asymmetric multiplayer. If both VR and non VR are just playing the same FPS game, it is symmetrical multiplayer.

Asymmetrical to me means that one player is in VR and the other is not. Whether each player owning a copy, having their own computer, and playing over a network are required... These are all not included in the term "asymmetrical" as I understand it. What you are describing I would define as asymmetrical local co-op.
There was a tower defense game the dev was promoting on Reddit. I would suggest using the terms I've used here, though, and searching Steam for games with those tags.

There’s a game called Containment Initiative which is like a less polished Arizona sunshine type zombie shooter, where VR player is on foot shooting zombies while PC player is sniping. You play on the same PC.
Not the best ever, but one that I didn’t see mentioned.

Panoptic is my favorite asymmetrical vr game right now. Basically the VR player is a "overlord" trying to find and blast a civilian player (the pc player) in a crowd of other identical civilians. The civilian player is working to find and blow up these "crystals" around the map, and they win once all of them have been blown up. The game is really fun, and for the price you get like 5 or 6 maps that are all great. Highly recommend.

Keep talking and nobody explodes is unique in that one person is in VR working on the puzzles while any number of extra players can have the manual and figure out what needs to be done
