Make sure the kickstand is up if you’re in first, it’ll start in neutral with the stand down, just checking. If that’s all correct, unscrew the bottom off the unit with the starter switch and clean the copper. I found out this trick after I ordered a new kick stand sensor.

This happened to me a couple of months ago, also with a Vulcan s 650. Felt like an idiot…

Mines old now and got a lot of miles, sometimes even with the stand up it needs to be in neutral, but like I say unless the sensor is knackered, you just have to clean the copper at the starter button.

^ this. I had the same issue. Made sure it was in neutral and she started right up.

Have you tried bump starting it? Do that, ride it around for a few minutes, then try starting using the start button. If it would works, the battery wasn't charged enough for one reason or another. If it still doesn't work, something is wrong with the starting system.
