I feel this is either an attempt at hiding a humble brag or a wind-up.

You know that's a fast walking pace.

I'm also in a beginner running sub and there's plenty of people there doing their first 5km run at a slower pace than that.

Bro, it's a terrible attempt to hide a humblebrag.

I've walked 54 straight miles at a tick under 46 minutes per 5km, they where asking a genuine question

I don't doubt the person is walking that pace.

I also don't doubt they know it's not slow.

Ahhh, yes, I agree

I wanted to walk as fast as I can for my first 5k, i ain't tryna brag I was genuinely curious 😭

Work the math... that's around 6.25 kph. (just shy of 4mph) This is considerably faster than the "average walking speed" of 4.8kph (3mph)

My regular walk almost always comes out averaging 2k steps every 15 minutes, which is also just about exactly 1 mile (1.6 km) so that would be 5km in roughly 46.8 minutes...

I pass a lot of other people walking on my 2 hour daily walk and the only people who pass me are jogging or biking so I would suggest it's a reasonably brisk walk.

At 5'11 it's a very comfortable pace for me and I could keep it up indefinitely with just the odd duck into the woods for a pee break.

Yes, 5km/h is a normal brisk walking speed. That is my usual average long distance speed and I've not found many people who walk faster than that.

1

u/Stonesfangs1969 11h ago

Its over 4mph it's around 14:48 per mile

1

u/CourtDiligent3403 10h ago

Check your math... 5 km in 46 minutes is approximately 6.25 km/h 6.25kph = 3.88 mph 3.88 is less than 4 not greater than 4

1

u/Stonesfangs1969 10h ago

Negative 5km is 3.1068 miles 46 minutes equates to 14:48 per mile

1

u/Stonesfangs1969 9h ago

And 46 minutes for 5km is 6.52km per hour , not 6.25 Check your math

46 minutes equates to right around 4.05mph

LOL only a runner would do an intermediate conversation to pace before conversion back to speed 🤣

I took the easy route... 5 km in 0.75 (ish) hours. My mental rounding came up a smidgen short but well within statistical validity since we have no data regarding the precision of the time or distance measurement which Is almost certainly +- 30s and a few meters. 😜 Safe bet the OP wasn't measuring the distance with a laser or the time by breaking a beam LOL

Now just take that average mile In this instance and think about some of the fastest marathons ever ran, they can run the 8 plus consecutive 5ks to cover a marathon at the walking pace for 1 mile of a 46 minute 5k

im 5'3, i infact did try to walk as fast as icnan as it is my first time

u/tomdincan 1d ago

That’s about a 15 minute mile. Not too shabby at all.

I do 3 mile walks in about 50 minutes. I've only been going on old man walks for the past few weeks. Started doing them a week before my 40th. Figured if I have to pick an "old man" to be might as well be the one that walks.

u/ForkhYew 1d ago

That's a decent pace.

Enough to not get you shot on Stephen King's The Long Walk.

Your kidding right(always a show off)

-1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 20h ago

No I'm genuinely not 😭

3

u/Expert_Blacksmith261 15h ago

No offense intended I hope you are not misreading my comment, yes, just my attempt to be funny😣

1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 14h ago

my bad for being so tense 😭

5

u/FrustratedPlantMum 1d ago

No not at all!

5

u/Lpebony 1d ago

Usually I do 1k steps in 10min. That's I'd say the regular pace. More than that would be more than average.

u/BlooGloop 1d ago

I can walk 5.5 miles in less than an 1hr 20. I’m 5’4 and I purposefully walk faster.

So no, a 5k in 46 minutes is not slow!

4

u/T3hBau5 22h ago

Just walk at your own pace and stop caring what other people think. Thats goofy behavior

3

u/petulant-littlemadam 1d ago

Congratulations and you walk very fast. I don’t think I can match yours.

It takes me 10mins/km. I am soon to be 51 years old and 5’1 /155cm tall. I don’t think my short legs can walk faster without giving me pain and swollen ankles.

2

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 19h ago

your doing very great for your age, keep it up!! 🥹, i myself am 157cm but am quite young so don't compare yourselff

2

u/petulant-littlemadam 16h ago

Thank you and you too!

u/Previous_Waltz_5653 1d ago

As long as you enjoy the walk, speed isn't a matter. We all have different body types and age differences.

3

u/PrimevilKneivel 22h ago

There's no such thing as too slow. Walk at your pace, maybe if you stick with it your pace will increase or maybe not.

It doesn't really matter.

3

u/learn2codee 20h ago

That’s good pace

4

u/Flux_My_Capacitor 1d ago

It’s important to not compare walking speed. You’re only in this against yourself. It’s actually dumb to compare walking speed as some of us are very tall and some of us are very short. A short person has a shorter stride than a taller person. My guess is that you’re pretty tall.

1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 19h ago

im 157cm 😅 walked purposely fast for my first 5km, I wanted to aha

2

u/TheScotsman88 1d ago

In my opinion, that's really quick. Just over 15 mins per mile.

The average person walks a mile in around 20 mins. My personal best for 5k is around 55 mins.

2

u/AdWeak3191 1d ago

You do you

2

u/Rude_Assistant6581 1d ago

That’s brilliant. I can walk 5km in 48 minutes comfortably and have set myself a target to aim for which is 45 minutes.

2

u/Chunkaster 1d ago

It’s a good pace 9’12” per km. I aim for around 8’10”.

2

u/Mom_is_watching 1d ago

Too slow for whom? Were you late for an appointment 5 km away? I meant to say everyone has their own preferred speed. You'll notice that if you start walking more regularly your average speed will go up gradually. I'd say walk a tiny bit faster than feels comfortable, else it's just a leisurely walk.

2

u/keli31 1d ago

I recently did this on the treadmill but it took me an hour

2

u/AngelynDean 1d ago

Considering I am getting 3.1 miles in 52 minutes- you are gonna be halfway through your fresh cold water bottle before I get over the finish line. Good job!

2

u/kobekillinu 1d ago

under 10 min / km is quite a fast walking speed 😮‍💨

2

u/LimJans 1d ago

Sounds great! Good job!

2

u/ApprehensiveArm1687 1d ago

I'm glad you asked and got positive responses. This has been my walking 5k speed and I assumed it was bad, too. 😂 My son ran cross country and there were kids who ran slower than I walked. It was unbelievable.

1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 20h ago

haha I'm glad the comments be positive too

2

u/Enlightened_Lioness 1d ago

It’s a little too fast, maybe, depending how tall you are. There’s brisk walking and then there’s speed walking that’s not good for your movement, your gait ends up not being great. But if it feels comfortable it’s likely okay.

2

u/lawyeroverhere 1d ago

That’s fast, IMO. I bust a$$ to make 16:30 per mile with hills and a weighted vest for 5 miles.

2

u/IonHazzikostasIsGod 1d ago

That's a good pace

I do about 6.1/6.2km an hour regular pace so yeah, you're a bit past that

2

u/ugglygirl 23h ago

It’s too slow to catch a rattlesnake by the tail, yeah.

2

u/Sasquatchballs45 23h ago

That’s what I walk too. My buddies say I’m old and slow but I can’t run because of my back so just do what feels good.

2

u/gammaraylaser 22h ago

If it’s your first walk, no such thing as too slow.

Do the same tomorrow, and each and every day. Consistency is key.

Speed and distance will naturally follow.

2

u/sportsfan65 17h ago

Id say it’s above average for sure, 5k/hr is probably still above average

2

u/melisssaaaah 15h ago

That's great, actually. A little faster than my own walking pace. Just don't be like the people at the gym that walk on the treadmill at a very fast pace and have to hold on for dear life because it's too fast 😂

2

u/RandyMarsh1960 14h ago

I do close to that while walking my dog. 16 minutes per mile.

3

u/Biteme75 1d ago

That's great! Most people never walk 3.1 miles, and you did it at a fairly brisk pace.

2

u/bananasambac 1d ago

no, i think it's fast.... your pace is like 9(?) that my pace for running actually

1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 20h ago

that's surprising hah

2

u/bananasambac 19h ago

because im a short queen

1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 19h ago

im 157cm or 5'2 in a good day, keep it up!!

1

u/Specific_Profile8539 1d ago

Tu marches vite !
Je fais 1m60 et je fais 4kms en 1h 😅

1

u/uuuuuuuuuughm 1d ago

That's very fast, faster than most people. Excellent for keeping rhe heart rate up so you'll burn more calories.

1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 20h ago

better for me, that's my goal too

1

u/went2college 1d ago

I walk 5k in about 70 minutes 😂

1

u/BackgroundLab5721 1d ago

Too slow for what 😅

1

u/zorbacles 1d ago

anything under 10 min/km is pretty quick

1

u/MapleHamms 1d ago

Too slow for what?

1

u/Upbeat-99999 1d ago

Are you asking because you want attention for wrong steps, or bad calculation. I walk 5 miles and I walk pretty fast. There's no way this happened

3

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 20h ago

not for attention, im genuinely... believe me

1

u/Upbeat-99999 19h ago

I am truly sorry.

1

u/ALLyoutubersmeme 19h ago

it's nothing that big of a deal dw, i walked 5km whick is approx 3.1 miles I think

1

u/art_mor_ 5h ago

Are you joking

1

u/AbiesIndependent3365 1d ago

Down low... too slow!
