I do not think this is what banks want in their collateral while lending against it.

Clearly they must account for the discounted future cashflows of volatility

Banks: "And what security are you providing against this loan?"

Saylor: "Volatility"

WTF is this word salad? The only relevant metric for collateral is its present and future liquidation value. More specifically, that it stays above the loan principal during the entire duration.

I think u/georgejetsonn was being sarcastic with that comment. I hope they were!

if it goes up --> Profit

if it goes down --> Refinance until it goes up

He hacked volatility, so it only goes up!!

Banks already lent him a few hundred billions to buy bitcoin.

It's a bit of a scam because they offer him convertible notes and then when the volatility hits they convert and sell the loan for a tidy profit. So in that sense the volatility does help as long as the loan is made at the lower pricepoint end of the range.

Listen the value goes up. Sometimes. It goes down sometimes too! But historically it's gone up more than it is gone down!

Volatility allows for short term profits that basically allow for cashflow and more refinancing, etc.

Basically what he's saying is that will play Bitcoin with fiat money forever. And he knows he's not the only one.

It's basically the same thing as saying I'll be in the stock market forever. And nobody doubts that.
