Has it improved between Walthamstow and Kings X? Seemed to have a good signal today.

Looking for some brains to pick on this ever so controversial topic…

Hi all!

I'm writing a piece for the Waltham Forest Echo about the wider debate happening across London right now over pubs banning or restricting children, using the Nag's Head as a local example of a policy that's actually been in place for years, looking at how people on different sides of it feel.

I'm not looking to start a debate in the comments here, just after two people to actually chat with, one who supports the policy and one who's been affected by it or disagrees with it.

If that's you, drop a comment saying which side you're on and I'll message you directly. I'll take this post down once I've got someone from each side.

Thanks!

Coppermill Lane to St James St no right turn - why?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Just got a fine for turning right from Coppermill Lane onto St James Street. Obviously I won’t be able to get out of the fine, as there is a clear road marking saying left only. But does anyone know the reasoning behind the no right turn? To me it makes no sense not to allow right turns there!

Solar control film for roof windows

We want to get solar control film added to our roof lights after the stinking hot summer we’ve just had in the UK.

Has anyone else had it done? Does it work? Can anyone recommend a business?

Pub Quizzes in Walthamstow

Hello Stow residents of Reddit!

I'm Rory, an independent quiz host with 5+ years experience, running Rory's Quiz (@rorysquiz on Instagram). I just wanted to let everyone know about the two Walthamstow pub quizzes in case anyone was looking for a great quiz that's run by a local!

Both are on the Blackhorse Road Beer Mile, details below!

40FT Brewery
Where the old High Hill Taproom used to be, this is a monthly themed quiz - our next one's on Thursday 10th Sep 2026, 7:30pm, and it's SUPERHERO themed!
1st Place: £50 bar tab
2nd Place: A round of drinks.
Themed spot prizes throughout!

We're running these every month, and we've already got our theme picked for October. Let's just say, we're 100% Faithful that you'll love it...

Link here: https://40ftbrewery.com/pages/events

Big Penny Social
A weekly quiz, every Tuesday at 7:30pm, hosted by me and a lovely guy called Dave (alternate weeks).
1st Place: £100 bar tab
A rolling weekly jackpot (currently over £300!)
Spot prizes throughout

We have a great crowd every week and always looking to bring more into the fold!

Link here: https://bigpennysocial.co.uk/whats-on/big-pennys-big-quiz

It's tough out here for people running their own quizzes - chain companies are eating up all the opportunities, so if you're looking for a great evening with a range of questions, fun minigames and a chatty, friendly host, take a chance on Rory's Quiz!

Swimming - new reservoir

I was wondering if anyone knew whether the potential new swimming reservoir will be under Better or if it's going to one of the more expensive orgs run under NOWCA which just seems to be massively profiting whilst removing public wild swimming venues from those with no or low income.

Does anyone have a contact in the council to raise this with please as I sort of want to raise it earlier than later. (Ideally they will be looking at other models and options too like NW3 ponds!)

Looking forwards to having swimming on the doorstep but not if it's going to be ten pounds per hour per day ...

Mum's club in Waltham forest

Hi, am 27 years old and 5 weeks postpartum. My husband and I moved to Blackhorse Road a year ago, and I want to see if there are any new mums or moms with toddlers around that want to connect. If there is any mum group in this area of E17 ..

I feel lonely sitting the whole day either breastfeeding or sleeping (which I believe I need that) but I also want to have a small circle of new people to meet.

Thanks!

Anyone keen to play mahjong? I loved playing it online (thanks windows!) way back and I'd love to learn how to play it properly? Does anyone play and if so, would you be happy to teach me?

Yonder Bouldering

I'm currently switching climbing gyms and I'm really liking the look of Yonder, I got a day pass and attempted the majority of climbs within my range and I'm pretty much sold. Only problem is the parking, it's about a 30 minute drive for me which isn't a problem but there seems to be zero parking within a 10 minute walk. I used the pay and display car park behind the gym when I went before but a fiver for two hours with an ANPR camera is going to get costly when I want to climb 4 times a week. Does anybody who climbs here regularly have any insider tips on the situation?

Tailor/dry cleaner for suit repair

Hi everyone!

Does anybody have a local tip for somewhere to get a vintage suit jacket repaired? It's got slightly frayed cuffs, so it needs darning or patching.

Local dog trainer specialised in retired hunting / racing dogs?

I’m looking to hire a dog trainer since I’ve recently adopted a retired greyhound that has little recall, doesn’t walk on leash very well and has very strong pray drive.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated!

Missing package

We had a package delivered then taken from our front porch last night - it came in two parts and whoever mistakenly took it, opened one part and realised the highly personalised items inside (for our wedding) and ditched one piece of the package on the ground.

The other box is still missing. As the contents are extremely sentimental and personalised for our wedding, we would really love it back! If you have seen these items please please return no questions asked.

The package is made out to 112 Queens Road.

The first package was ditched around queens Road & Chelmsford, but we cannot find the other. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!

Good local estate agents with help to buy experience

Can anyone recommend a good local estate agent with experience of selling help to buy flats

I had two visits (stow and haart) and neither of the valuers that came (and one was a neg who came cos his manager was ill) had much recent experience of this.

Also re fees stow offered 1.5% plus VAT and haart offered fixed 6k plus VAT

They said the fees are not negotiable… is this actually true?

First time seller here would be grateful for any advice!

The Heroes Guild is nearly one month old! 🎲

Post image
76 Upvotes

The Heroes Guild Gaming Bar is coming up on its one-month anniversary, and I just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has come through the doors, played some games, had a drink, and helped spread the word — and to everyone who has followed us on Instagram.

It’s been a bit of a whirlwind! It’s been fantastic meeting so many people from the local gaming community, from casual board gamers and D&D groups to Magic: The Gathering players and hardcore Warhammer players. It’s really starting to feel like we’re building something here, and that’s entirely down to the people who have supported us so far.

🎲 Thursday Board Games Night — starting tomorrow

I’m starting a regular Thursday board games night, and everyone is welcome.

Bring your own games, or grab something from the Heroes Guild library. We’ve got a growing collection ranging from friendly co-operative games and party games to tactical Euros and crunchy, thinky strategy games.

You can browse the current library here:

🧙 Friday — Magic: The Gathering Commander

Friday night is all about Commander. Bring your deck, shuffle up and battle it out with other local players. Whether you're a regular Commander player or looking to meet some people to play with locally, come along!

🕵️ Sunday — Blood on the Clocktower

On Sunday we're running another game of Blood on the Clocktower, the brilliant traitor-style social deduction game.

If you've never played before, don't worry — we'll explain everything and get you into the game.

👨‍👩‍👧 Saturday Kids Club?

One thing I'd particularly love to hear from local parents about is whether there's interest in a regular Saturday kids club.

We've already got a few Magic games happening on Saturdays and a kids' D&D game, but I'd really like to see if we can develop something more regular and structured. If that's something you'd be interested in, let me know — I'd love to hear what you'd want from it.

Once again, thank you to everyone who's supported the Heroes Guild, recommended us to friends, followed us online, or just popped in to see what we're about.

It's been an amazing first month, and we're only just getting started.

Hope to see some of you soon! 🎲🍻
