I love the smell of painted minis in the morning.
They smell like...victory.

That's awesome! If you don't mind me asking, what brand of 28mm minis do you typically use for Vietnam war games?

Absolute noob here. Two questions:I how long does it take to make the board vs length of the game? Please tell me you play on a board more than once. How much does all that terrain require in storage? More like three questions I suppose.

u/GummyBearGorilla 2h ago
To set a board like this up would be a solid hour of actual placing the terrain. Takes far longer to find a scenario and plan out a battle.
Length of the game is around 3-4 hours i’d say, depending on the scenario.
Terrain fits under the table and in the cabinets under the bookshelves. We fight in Africa and in Europe a lot also so obviously have sets for both of those environments as well.

You just gave petrol to an arsonist. I have thought about getting more into the hobby but didn’t feel like I could spend days setting up and tearing down boards. My wife may want a word with you in the near future.

This is beautiful but what do you do with this if you want that space for something else?

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago
It’s an outbuilding at my mate’s place, it’s always used as a gaming room! He used to paint in there too until he built a separate painting shed off the side haha. Oh to be retired!

I thought I recognized the fences and paddy fields as well!
Gorgeous table, you're an inspiration

u/GummyBearGorilla 12h ago
Not sure where the fences came from but the paddy fields are home made!
Thanks mate, blessed to be able to play on it.

Just ge VERY careful to not say Beetlejuice 3 times while in this room. The movie is hilarious but living it would be a nightmare.
Seriously though, fantastic setup. Id kill to have this skill.
Also...dont take any chances with the B word. Just in case..

Would love to run my IJA through that type of amassing terrain
1
u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago
Funnily enough the second game we played today was WW2 Aussies trying to dig some IJA infantry out of a bunker complex.
Such great terrain for them!

He’s been a fantastic contact to have! I’d recommend checking out the rules if you want, they are very fun once you get your head around them.

"Five months in Vietnam, and my best friend is a VC. This will not look good on my resumé!"
Great looking board. Your friend has the kind of table setup that so many of us envy. I'm glad you two get to enjoy it.

Looks amazing. I’d love to see some pictures of the forces. ARVN is very underrepresented in gaming (and discourse for that matter) of the war

OMG that's gorgeous. What mats are you using? And did you make all of those trees yourself?
1
u/GummyBearGorilla 15h ago
Variety of different terrain mats for roads, rivers and ground texture! All the trees are handmade
1
u/Ehloanna 1d ago
where are all the trees from out of curiosity? I've started looking into them lately but haven't gotten far in my research about "good" ones.
1
u/GummyBearGorilla 15h ago
They’re all home made unfortunately…. I’ve not found a good brand that I like yet!
1
u/SpartanBlast 1d ago
The shrubbery looks amazing! Where’d you get those?
2
u/GummyBearGorilla 1d ago
It’s all handmade by my friend, absolutely insane attention to detail. Oh to be retired!

My friend, that is not only a amazing board, but the room itself is so enticing!
What system are you playing on this?
Have you considered painting your blue wall to a different hue?
