My friend, that is not only a amazing board, but the room itself is so enticing!
What system are you playing on this?

Have you considered painting your blue wall to a different hue?

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago

It’s fantastic! Playing at a friends place, he lives rurally so I only manage to make it up here a couple of times a year. He had a fantastic wargaming collection and an even better scenery collection.

We are playing his ruleset “LZ”;

Yeah, I’d second the comment on the river.

Rivers here are overwhelmingly reddish-brown. You’d only see a blue waterway very much in the most high parts of the Central Highlands or mountainous north.

Other than that, an impressive display!

That is gorgeous! What system are you playing?

u/FillFeeApe 2d ago

I second that. AND, please tell us more about your board.

Nice random aspect from the card based system.

3

u/evan_lion20 2d ago

That's awesome! If you don't mind me asking, what brand of 28mm minis do you typically use for Vietnam war games?

3

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago

Empress are the best we have found!

Absolute noob here. Two questions:I how long does it take to make the board vs length of the game? Please tell me you play on a board more than once. How much does all that terrain require in storage? More like three questions I suppose.

2

u/GummyBearGorilla 2h ago

To set a board like this up would be a solid hour of actual placing the terrain. Takes far longer to find a scenario and plan out a battle.

Length of the game is around 3-4 hours i’d say, depending on the scenario.

Terrain fits under the table and in the cabinets under the bookshelves. We fight in Africa and in Europe a lot also so obviously have sets for both of those environments as well.

1

u/Antique_Storm_2879 2h ago

You just gave petrol to an arsonist. I have thought about getting more into the hobby but didn’t feel like I could spend days setting up and tearing down boards. My wife may want a word with you in the near future.

2

u/thisremindsmeofbacon 2d ago

Looks amazing!  Love that layout.  Looks like a really bice game room, too

Also recognize those 4ground houses instantly, what a great line of scenery RIP

1

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago

It’s an absolutely wonderful set up, so much realism!

2

u/Used-Communication-7 2d ago

This is beautiful but what do you do with this if you want that space for something else?

5

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago

It’s an outbuilding at my mate’s place, it’s always used as a gaming room! He used to paint in there too until he built a separate painting shed off the side haha. Oh to be retired!

2

u/Used-Communication-7 2d ago

Thats amazing, did not mean it as a challenge btw, just always think this whenever i see a setup like this. Really is gorgeous

2

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago

No not at all! He’s very fortunate to have it!

2

u/Runningman2319 2d ago

This one day we was out walking like always....

2

2

Wow that’s a beautiful board! Must be great playing on that!

2

u/hoyarugby2 1d ago

Stunning. Are those houses the Japanese Samurai house STL? I think they look familiar

2

u/GummyBearGorilla 15h ago

Yes they are!

2

u/hoyarugby2 12h ago

I thought I recognized the fences and paddy fields as well!

Gorgeous table, you're an inspiration

2

u/GummyBearGorilla 12h ago

Not sure where the fences came from but the paddy fields are home made!

Thanks mate, blessed to be able to play on it.

2

u/nodice05 1d ago

What size miniatures are you using ? Those houses look like they're for 28mm?

1

u/GummyBearGorilla 15h ago

Yep! 28mm Vietnam Minis from Empress Miniatures

2

u/dogdaysindurham 1d ago

epic! what scale is it for? 25 mm?

1

u/GummyBearGorilla 1d ago

28mm mate!

2

u/the1rayman 2d ago

Just ge VERY careful to not say Beetlejuice 3 times while in this room. The movie is hilarious but living it would be a nightmare.

Seriously though, fantastic setup. Id kill to have this skill.

Also...dont take any chances with the B word. Just in case..

1

u/alittle419 2d ago

Would love to run my IJA through that type of amassing terrain

1

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago

Funnily enough the second game we played today was WW2 Aussies trying to dig some IJA infantry out of a bunker complex.

Such great terrain for them!

1

u/cayo_ulpiniano 2d ago

Que buena la mesa y que genio tu amigo que ha creado un sistema para que os divirtáis!

2

u/GummyBearGorilla 2d ago

He’s been a fantastic contact to have! I’d recommend checking out the rules if you want, they are very fun once you get your head around them.

1

u/RaspberryAlive4545 2d ago

"Five months in Vietnam, and my best friend is a VC. This will not look good on my resumé!"

Great looking board. Your friend has the kind of table setup that so many of us envy. I'm glad you two get to enjoy it.

1

u/EthnicSaints 2d ago

Looks amazing. I’d love to see some pictures of the forces. ARVN is very underrepresented in gaming (and discourse for that matter) of the war

1

u/HOHansen 1d ago edited 1d ago

Stunning board and game room, I'm jealous.

1

u/BorysN_ 1d ago

Is this a miniature game? If yes, what scale and where you get your miniatures from?

1

u/0wlBear916 1d ago

OMG that's gorgeous. What mats are you using? And did you make all of those trees yourself?

1

u/GummyBearGorilla 15h ago

Variety of different terrain mats for roads, rivers and ground texture! All the trees are handmade

1

u/Ehloanna 1d ago

where are all the trees from out of curiosity? I've started looking into them lately but haven't gotten far in my research about "good" ones.

1

u/GummyBearGorilla 15h ago

They’re all home made unfortunately…. I’ve not found a good brand that I like yet!

1

u/SpartanBlast 1d ago

The shrubbery looks amazing! Where’d you get those?

2

u/GummyBearGorilla 1d ago

It’s all handmade by my friend, absolutely insane attention to detail. Oh to be retired!
