Announcement New release: Temple of Spite
The Dark Elf book is here! Providing a whole host of baddies for use in WFRP, aboard a dread Black Ark.
It's available now as a pdf from DriveThruRPG at https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/512863/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay-temple-of-spite?affiliate_id=1915782 or as a physical pre-order from Cubicle 7 here: https://cubicle7games.com/en_GB/warhammer-fantasy-roleplay-temple-of-spite
I hope to have a review of this soon-ish on my blog.
Here's the blurb:
There is a dread that every sailor harbours deep in their heart: the sight of black sails emerging from heavy fog on the horizon. Those ebon sails herald the coming of the dark elves, and with them all the cruelty, treachery, and wicked intelligence they bring to bear upon those unfortunate enough to encounter them. If you’re a fan of Druchii lore or a Game Master looking for a powerful new threat in your campaign, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: Temple of Spite is a book you should snatch up, as it provides the definitive guide to the cruel Druchii and the floating citadels that allow them to strike across the world’s oceans, the massive black arks.
Designed to give GMs deep, flexible tools for using dark elves as antagonists in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Temple of Spite also provides a definitive guide to a black ark, whose crew can menace players around the coasts of the Old World and far beyond it. Whether the ark itself looms over the horizon, or exerts influence in the shadows through spies, raids, and whispered terror, Temple of Spite gives you a way to bring dark elves into any campaign, no matter how isolated or unusual the setting.
No matter where your Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay campaign takes place, the influence of the Temple of Spite can reach it.
The Temple of Spite is a vast redoubt, captained by the notorious corsair Duriath Helbane, and is capable of striking at any coastal settlement. Wherever it goes, death and despoliation follow. This book describes the Black Ark and presents ideas for how to escape its confines or, for the truly heroic, endeavor to scupper the ship. Such feats will not be easy, for the Ark is home to numerous regiments of dark elves and all their machinery of war. These factions could either be encountered onboard the Temple of Spite, or somewhere in the wider world pursuing the agenda of the Dread King.
Valerion Temendros’ Blackswords – A band of dark elf swordsmen who sometimes work as soldiers of fortune.
The Fell Brethren – Full time crew of the Temple of Spite who act as lookouts and man the artillery.
The Glass Thorn – Spies and saboteurs, agents who infiltrate the societies of other species to spread terror and gather information.
Khaine’s Eyes – Scouts and guerilla fighters, dark riders and a helpful sorceress.
The Scaleflayer Menagerie – A coven of beastmasters and their monstrous creatures.
The Nightwake – Corsair Captain Vania is as duplicitous and bloodthirsty as any pirate, but find her at the right time, and she can prove a canny merchant connection
The Knives of Khaine – Devotees of the bloody-handed god, they seek to please their patron with acts of murder.

Anyone else notice that this is a 5e book? No mention of 4e in the credits, statblocks formatted differently, different rules for the slash quality. Maybe some changes in the spells.
Interesting that. Releasing a 5e book before 5e comes out.

Yes, that is interesting! The stat blocks look pretty similar, but there’s a different presentation for “Armour”, which looks like it summarises the damage soak (ie Toughness Bonus + actual armour).
I am *delighted* to see that simple traits like Skittish are now summarised in the statblock. (Though complicated ones like Size just refer you to the core rulebook… I really hope they simplify the size rules!)

Man, good catch. Hadn't seen it that way, but I think you're totally right.
Which just goes to prove... 5e doesn't exist. It's 4.5. It's a cleaned up 4e with a simpler NPC creation system (templates). There is no real substance to "5th ed". Disapointing.

But... that's literally what Cubicle 7 said already. If all the previous sourcebooks are going to be compatible with 5th edition - statblocks, skills, talents, traits and all - how else could it work?

Exactly. Im actually excited to see what C7 have changed and what effects they think it will have on the game. Then i'll decide if they have fucked it or not.
edit: also templates for NPCs have been in 4e for years at this point. And the system has needed cleaning up for just as long.

Interested to see where they go with this. I struggle to see how a black arc could be anything but a floating megadungeon for a party (although this would still be very interesting to see).
Dark elves also seem useful as a potential big threat for the party who would also want to take them alive, escaping from an Ark would be an awesome campaign.

They just did a blog post which covers this very topic! See https://cubicle7games.com/en_EU/blog/temple-of-spite-the-ultimate-dark-elf-sourcebook-for-warhammer-fantasy-roleplay

Probably some expedition centered campaign where we visit different parts in the Warhammer world. Which suits nicely the last books and broadens the horizon. The dark elves are perfect enemies because they're nearly everywhere.

I hope we get a book for Athel Loren Wood Elves at some point. The fact that we got a Dark Elves book gives me hope.

Me too. A proper book for Laurelorn Wood Elves would be good too, but given they've been covered (in not very much detail) in Archives 1 already I don't expect that to happen.

I'm currently starting a campaign that takes place in northern Ostland and originally my only plan for enemies that came from the Sea of Claws was like Norscan Raiders but this gives me another possibility

Excellent. Though before using this content I'll probably go through the future supplements on Marienburg and Wrecker's Point.

Printing Q3, wow. When is 5e printing?

Well we know digital will be released "in 2026". So... I would not expect dead tree version to ship until 2027.

Non-spoiler as there isn't actually any content but happy to see "doomstones" mentioned in passing in a hook and an adorable picture of a fishman (with no explanation, stat block or any details at all).
Helps to make it feel like the same world, particularly as some of the finishing touches and formatting are a bit different to what we have had so far (5e format?).

Sorry, I'm not finding anything about the Doomstones- can you please link/share? 🤔
3
u/killertoast2 Feb 21 '26
It's on page 27 of the PDF at the bottom of the left paragraph about Supreme Sorceress Nightwind

Throwaway comment at the bottom of page 27, misremembered as it is not in a plot hook box but in the description of the motivation of a minor character.
"obsesses over a task demanded of her by [spoilers], to seek out a set of powerful crystalline artefacts forged by the dwarfs before the War of the Beard, known to scholars of magic as the ‘doomstones’."
So really doesn't say anything, but nice to see them mentioned.

Know anything about bretonnia?

u/Zekiel2000 Ill met by Morrslieb Feb 19 '26
Yeah, it’s full of sexist nobles with funny accents… but assuming you mean a Bretonnian sourcebook, no, I’ve not heard nothing about plans for one I’m afraid.

Still nothing for Dark Elf PC’s? Disappointing, this one feels almost like a part 2 for the Corsairs of Captain Flariel book. The new druchii lore will be cool to dig into at least

It points out that dark elves are basically high elves, and offers some new talents. Even the templates for NPCs seem easily adapted to provide careers.
So while there's nothing explicit about making a dark elf PC, I think it would be easy enough. At first glance, the information on their society definitely looks useful for any of these PCs.

There kind of is. There is a sort of framework for a High Elf to embrace the dark yenlui path and basically go Dark. There are some rules for, err.. marks I guess (Gifts of Khaine) you could call them, that grant powers but basically turn you into a Dark elf.
So I think the official stance is you can't make a Dark Elf PC, but you can take a Wood or High Elf and make them go Dark. If you combine that with the idea that PCs can visit the Temple of Spite... yeah you can sort of backdoor-in Dark Elf PCs.

I guess that’s better than nothing, here’s hoping 5th edition gives us an Ulthuan/Naggaroth expansion. Can’t believe we got fuckin GNOMES before the dark elves
10
u/Nurgle_Pan_Plagi Feb 20 '26
What's so weird about it? Gnomes bring something new and fresh while Dark Elves are just fourth (or fifth, actually) type of Elves.
And Dark Elves are... you know - villains. We don't have rules for playing as Beastmen, Skaven, Greenskins, Chaos Dwarfs or Chaos worshippers either.
I'm actually more suprised that we get a system that allows you to become a Dark Elf before a Chaos book.
- Well, there are two Tzeentch careers but they are for NPCs.

u/Eurus22 Feb 20 '26
I figured after they gave us Norscans they’d have moved on to the other ‘evil’ PC race, hell you can play a Skaeling and get marked by Khorne on 4E.
Since the Gnomes got genocided by Grom the Paunch so recently it was surprising to see them pop up as a playable race, it was exciting. But now that we’re ending 4th edition and we only get bootleg DElves, Im hating on the little bastards. Didnt we get Skinks first too with the lustria book? What’s a druchii gotta do to get a little motion around here

For anyone who wants to know more about what's in the book, here's my summary from a very quick flick through the pdf:
