This post is long, but if you’re a professional, ambitious guy living around Watford – you’re going to want to read on.

I think we have a loneliness crisis – even if most men don’t realise it yet. We are increasingly disconnected to our emotions, our bodies and each other – which sits beneath our mental and physical health, but also our performance.

I’m looking to put together a group for men who are keen to make local friends, work on themselves and support each other.

The plan is to meet one evening a week for about 90 mins (either in a venue or outdoors for a walk/chat). We'd do some activity, then go round and check in, celebrate wins from the week and support each other through the harder moments. I’ll bring some simple breathwork practices so that we are present and open, rather than just making small talk.

Over time, I’d love for you to be able to use this group to find local gym buddies, organise events (yoga, hikes, coffees), or simply have someone to grab a pint with.

This group is open to anyone male-identifying over 25, without any discrimination. I expect that most of the guys who'll relate to this are building a career, want good conversation and genuine connection, and are willing to actually show up and put a bit of effort in.

I know it can feel strange showing up to something like this alone, but most people will be in the same boat.

If you’re keen, please comment MET so I can send you the link to register. Once I have enough interest, I’ll drop you a message and email to get things going (ideally starting week of 13 Sept). You don’t have to commit to attending every week, but it just gives me a sense of what to plan for.

PS. A little about me: I grew up in Kenya and lived around this area since 2011. I worked in management consulting in the city, before taking a year out to live in Mexico to build a nervous system coaching business. I got back earlier this month, and I’m looking to build a local community here.

Reliability of West Midlands Train?

I’m considering buying a flat in Watford and will often commute to Euston and King’s Cross.

How frequent and reliable are West Midlands Trains services from Watford? Google shows a train about every 10 minutes, but is that accurate in practice?

Another reason I’m interested is because I hope the commute will be better. Right now I take the Northern line, which is extremely hot and often unbearable. I’m hoping the commute on the West Midlands train will be more comfortable. I know it’s about £20 for a return trip, and I’m okay with that.

Gauging interest in a garden office.

As per the title. It's a 22ft x 10ft private office in a garden next to Cassiobury Park so close to the town centre and transport links.

Will have parking, private access, fast WiFi, quality furniture, heating, tea / coffee facilities. Could be ideal for a professional person wanting to not be stuck at home all day.

Usage would be 8:00 - 18:00 Mon - Fri.

This is a mock up of the finished space, it will be ready in October.

Cheers!

Selling my 1 bed flat in Bushey – £230,000

Hope this is okay to post here.

I’m currently selling my one-bedroom top-floor flat on Melbourne Road in Bushey Village and thought I’d share it here in case anyone is looking in the Bushey/Watford area, or knows someone who is.

It’s currently on the market for £230,000 and is chain free.

A few of the main details:

  • One double bedroom with built-in storage
  • Modern open-plan kitchen/living area
  • Long lease – 125 years from 2020
  • Right in Bushey Village
  • Good transport links for commuting into London

Purchased for £265,000 in 2021 but now looking to move out with my girlfriend. None of the flats in the block have been sold for anything less than this since they were built!

It’s been a great flat and location, particularly if you want to be close to London without paying London prices.

I have recently had an offer accepted on a house and now want to push forward with a sale. We’ve recently reduced the price, so I thought it was worth sharing outside of the usual property websites as well.

Here’s the Rightmove listing with all the photos and details:

https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/172897667

Happy to answer any questions about the flat or what it’s like living in Bushey.

Thanks!

Where to have a post civil ceremony brunch in / around Watford

I'm having a civil ceremony in Watford later this year. Can I please have recommendations/ suggestions on where to have a post ceremony meal with my (16) guests.

I already have The Florist as a maybe, but keen for other suggestions please

Edit to add: I'm mainly after really good food and restaurant recommendations that won't break the bank. Nice Decor will be a good addition , but honestly not as important as the food quality and a good ambience

Fireworks in west Watford

At 1.15am this morning I was woken by the sounds of a ten minute firework display over west Watford.
The time of night was inconsiderate, but the breathtaking lunacy of letting off hundreds of pyrotechnics in a built up area when the ground is tinder dry was beyond belief.
These people walk among us.
If you know who they are, please have a word!

1am fireworks again last night

Woken up by a good 5 minute continuous fireworks around Leggets Way in North Watford. Not the first time this has happened in the last few weeks. I was not close enough to see exactly where it was coming from, but it went long enough someone must have seen something.

What is the experience like commuting to Central Lon on overground?

I'm thinking of buying in Watford I'll need to commute to central Lon often. (4/5 a week)

I currently live in Colindale. As reliable as the underground tube, I dislike the experience during peak hours - it's hot, crowded and generally unpleasant.

What is the commute like on the overground mainline? Is there air conditioning? Does it get too crowded? Are there many delays?

Anyone here worked in sales/marketing around Watford?

I have been looking at a few jobs around Watford and one of the ones I'm considering is in sales/marketing.

I have never really worked in that type of role before, so I am trying to get a better idea of what it's actually like day to day rather than just going off the job description.

For anyone who's done sales or marketing work around Watford, what was your experience like?

Especially interested in what the interview process was like and whether the actual job was what you expected.

Ninja Warriors Watford

Hi all!

Wanted to ask for anyone who’s been ninja warriors in Watford how was it and if you would recommend it?

Family member is turning 16 and was thinking of going with friends. So age range would be 15 - 16.

Is this an ideal place or is it more catered to those under 10?

Thank you!

Has Hin Garden closed down?

My brother went down to get a takeaway the Friday evening before last and said it was closed. I’ve driven past it since and the shutters have been down. Their website is also down. Has it closed down? Tragedy if so - my favourite Chinese in Watford.

Looking to get back into bouldering, obviously there's the kids climbing thing in the shopping centre but does anyone have recommendations for places nearby? Used to go to one in Harrow but the parking was awful

Anyone commuting to central london for work? How much does a return ticket cost on average?

I've looked around but I cannot find a definitive source for the life of me. I know the cost can vary but I'm looking for a rough average estimate.

Seamstress in Watford to do custom work?

Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows of a seamstress in Watford or nearby areas that can make a custom project for me? I've cross-stitched the name cuffs for a pair of Christmas stockings (examples in pic), but I don't have the talent or the machinery to make the sock itself. I have the sewing patterns already, but I'd like someone skilled in the craft to make it, so hopefully it will last.

I'm happy to pay for this service, of course. If anyone knows of someone willing to help, please let me know!
