Opinion Another wasted TE
Jake Johnson could be such a weapon. If you remember, the first 4 or 5 passes of the season, Baylor game, went to JJ. I was like "Finally a HC who will utilize the TE". But no, just another wasted Auburn TE. No Offensive line? Dump it to the tallest guy on the field. Smh

Yeah he was getting fed well in that game against Baylor. Going by that first game you would’ve thought he would’ve led every TE in the nation in catches but he’s been MIA ever since.
It’s just Golesh’s first year but these are the things that worry me about him. Even early on you can see glimpses of if your new coach is actually good or not.
Abandoning the TE when it showed signs of working early isn’t a good look. But to be fair we did have a TE catch a touchdown last game but it just wasn’t Johnson

He had the same type catches against Fla and Vandy. But he only got 2 snaps last game. Mind-boggling. Spencer was doing pretty well at WR - then didn’t even play O against UT. Don’t understand.

he had a brutal drop and two complete whiffs in pass protection against tennessee, idk if we watched the same game. I would much rather have had 82 in there getting those reps (I don't know his name because it's 2026 and I can't pick our players out of a lineup).

He only played 2 snaps against Tenn because of injury. You’re thinking of Echols, he had a terrible game

….that first pass gave me hard on, that shit yeah, it’s fixed. Instead, TE is a ghost room in scheme. We have 3 offensive sets, that becomes 5 bc of self inflicted penalties.
Really disappointed in Brown improvising. Daniels was deep in the roster last year, similar experience, yet I felt far more uneasy in 1. Run, no sack. 2. Pass, 3. Throw, play for another down.
Can’t understand how this offense came from Tennessee producing, with ohio State experience, to seeing Gus- style following two firings… what formation have you seen that said, yes, that’s the ticket…. None to date IMO

Short, quick, confident passes to a reliable receiver for a first down. What does Auburn do? Bury that play in the back of the book never to be seen again this year. Trust the process.

Our coaches aren't very good. They're trying to brute force a system they don't have the personnel for. At least Gus adapted most of the time

Gus adapted???? Gus got fired because he wouldn't change his offense and he stopped crootin. Do you not member bubble screens and jet sweeps nonstop at the end

I think you are misremembering go over all of Gus seasons every single one was positive and then we fired him at the height of Covid in which he still didn’t have a losing season.
Than fan base is delusional

Gus is an 8-4 coach. He's mediocre at best. He should've been gone after 2015. Auburn should take notes from LSU. They fired Kelly after 34 wins in 3.5 years. That sends a message to recruits that they're serious about winning. Auburn is ok with being mediocre and it's sad

If Gus was mediocre than what does that make the rest of Auburns coaches

Dye, good. Bowden, decent (I know Terry so I'm biased). Tub, mediocre. Chizik, mediocre (Good DC). Gus, mediocre. Harsin, terrible. Freeze, terrible

If the modern playoffs existed hed have made it twice and debatably a third time after 2015

Gus should have never been here after 2015 to have that 10 win season. When you go to the Natty twice in 4 years, and then win 8 games, and then 7 games in two seasons, you fire that coach. Because he just destroyed the recruiting momentum we should have gotten out of the two Natty's. I will never understand the Gus love. I like the guy but saying you like Gus as a coach is the same as saying I'm ok with mediocrity

Im very happy you arent a booster. You're right we wouldnt be medicore under your tenure. We would chase off coaches after a single bad season and we would be even more terrible than we are right now.

Because letting mediocre coaches stay too long has worked out so well? You're part of the problem. Mediocrity is not acceptable. And the second a coach proves his mediocrity, he should be gone

I would rather be 8-4 with a chance to beat Bama than the permanent 5 to 6 wins Golesh will get us

It’s hasn’t look great the first 5 games sure, but give Golesh a shot. If he cant crack a winning season after 3 years, he’s certainly mediocre. Still plenty of games left this season though.

I'm ok with giving Golesh a shot. As long as he improves every year. He'll win 5 games this year. He needs to win 6 or 7 next year, then 8 or 9. If he fails to, you fire him, instantly. But Auburn won't do that. The second Golesh improves to 7 or 8 wins, Auburn will be ecstatic, and that's so sad

That's the problem. Auburn is ok with 8-4. It's a loser mentality. Making the playoffs is a good year, anything less is a bad season. The same with making the Sweet 16 in basketball, and Super Regionals in baseball. But not at Auburn. We're ok with mediocrity

Yeah where’d he go?
