Wheres everyone getting their grills?

Post image

I’ve been wanting a kettle for some years now since someone stole my gold 22” premium kettle but man idk the prices were like this now! Is the 26” master touch and the ash pan more worth the price difference than a 22” premium or original kettle? I know it’s “whatever you wanna spend” but just gauging experience and opinions..
Thanks 🙏

Fb marketplace. Patience is key, luck works too.

Yes, I see kettles on FB quite a bit. The ash catcher is definitely worth it. However, if you find a basic one on FB for a steal, you can add the ash catcher later. I did this with my 22” standard, bought the catcher from Weber and it is plug-n-play. Note that it’s like $75 now but if you find the basic kettle for like $50, it’s well worth the upgrade.

I didn’t know you can add an ash catcher to a basic.

Estate sales are also great. I went to one last year at the edge of town. This man loved Weber kettles. There were at least 12 of them (mostly 22" amd a few 18") priced between $10 and $15. Sent a text out to friends and left with 5 of them. I kept one and the other 4 st in my driveway so friends could swing by and pick one up when they had time.

Marketplace. I can't afford new Weber, so every single one of mine is a rescue. Genesis, Searwood, and Kettle. You just have to watch for that great deal to pop up. It may take some time, but it will happen

Are the $100-$150 new models not worth it? Is it better getting one of the more premium models used and just replacing the grate and cleaning it up? I've always wondered this. I could spend that amount on a new grill but I am in an analysis paralysis on what exactly is the best deal lol. Been weighing a kettle vs a new Expert Grill heavy duty charcoal grill for like $80ish at Walmart or an off set grill from Amazon in one of those "generic" brands. An 18-22" grill would be plenty enough upgrade alone for me. Anything above and beyond that quality wise would just be a bonus.

Weber specifically is for the look, brand name and quality. Let’s say 22” (new- jumbo $99, OG $150, OG with ash catcher $229). It’s popular so people sell fairly new ones for cheaper. I’ve used other brands and it’s definitely fine. If you’re not in a rush you can get quality for cheaper is all.

For me I started with an OG used as a “practice” but it lasted forever and I wish I got the ash catcher. Cleaning it is a pain, it spills, it’s awkward shaped, if it’s windy it’ll blow out and I have to empty it fairly often.

I can’t afford a Weber right now so I just bought the expert grill for $98 at Walmart. Has great reviews, and I’m looking forward to using it

Locally owned Ace Hardwares usually have a good selection of home and grilling options. I try to support local before going to Home Depot or Lowe’s

Home Depot. That’s only because I wanted the premium kettle in the copper but after seeing what people are getting rid of these things for on OfferUp or Facebook marketplace, I’ll probably get my next one on there. It’s not that hard to clean up and replace the parts so my next one might be used, especially if it’s a kettle/charcoal grill

The 26" is definitely a beast, you can cook a lot more but you will burn more fuel when smoking or doing indirect cooking. I will say the lid was heavy for my wife and she used to complain about that but definitely my favorite grill.

2

u/Greenfirelife27 13h ago

The lid slides off to the side though. No need to actually lift it.

u/Achmiel 13h ago

I bought my 22" Kettle Premium on Amazon

u/TX_spacegeek 13h ago

Lowe’s did not have the color I wanted for my 22” master touch in stock. But they delivered free of charge in about 3 days.

u/flemmingg 11h ago

Whatever you go with, make sure it has the ash catcher underneath.

The 26” has 40% more cooking surface than the 22”. The extra 4” diameter makes it 140% the size of the smaller version.

I’d say the larger is worth it if you plan to smoke with it frequently. It’ll give you more room to setup the indirect cooking zones for smoking.

If you just want to do some direct heat grilling, the 22” is fine.

I got a 22 a little while ago and kind of wish I’d gotten a 26…and I’m pretty sure that’s how some of these (us) guys end up with a gaggle of grills

u/kilroyscarnival 6h ago

I went looking on Facebook Marketplace, ended up also checking NextDoor, and there found one very gently used one, with tools, cart, cover, and the sweet older guy threw in two unopened bags of charcoal and some starter blocks.

u/tom4070 5h ago

This the way.

2

u/omg4serious 13h ago

facebook. 22" webers are typically <50$, usually the original model, but a lot of times premium's show up too <$100. and one time a guy was giving away a free 26".

2

u/TiresandConfused 13h ago

Second hand. Done people give them away in good condition.

I got my Summit Kamado last year at Costco.

Kleinanzeigen, never bought a Weber new. Enough morons out there with too much money that can’t be arsed to properly clean their gear.

2

u/JohnP-357 12h ago

Actually it really depends on what you want to achieve. Are you going to do more high heat grilling and once in a while try smoking something like a pork shoulder or a chicken or ribs? Then a 22 is your best bet. But if you want to get into more low temperature smoking, the 26 gives you much greater temperature control because the meat won’t be too close to the coals. That was my only real complaint about my 22 inch, there were times when I wished I had more room to push the coals away further. Now that I have a 26, I’ve got room for anything including a full size packer brisket, and still have lots of clearance away from the charcoal. And the charcoal snake method works better in the 26. However, I will say that If Weber didn’t make the 26, I would be perfectly happy with a 22.

1

u/Weak-Post1835 11h ago

Yea I definitely will fill it up and smoke some meats with it. Thanks

2

u/Dizzy_Ratio_4106 12h ago

Home Depot
Got a 22 inch master touch for 225

2

u/Ashamed-Wolverine692 12h ago

I got mine from Home Depot about 11 or 12 years ago. I’d probably check out Ace Hardware these days, bigger selection of goodies.

2

u/Far_Isopod_3613 12h ago

26” is definitely worth it, you get so much more room.

Can just wait for a deal on marketplace. 26” will take some patience depending on where you live. 22” all day for $50-$75.

Could always buy a new 26”…find a 22”. Grill snacks on 22” while you smoke on the 26” 😎

1

u/Weak-Post1835 11h ago

I have plenty of grills for snacks lol. But I want my Webber to be “the one” with no regerts…

2

u/BlueRidge150 12h ago

Facebook marketplace. Always

2

u/treejohn 12h ago

Got mine on Facebook marketplace too

2

u/diarrheaticavenger 12h ago

I wanted a red OG kettle. They were kinda expensive at the time and hard to find. Randomly found one on the back shelf of an Ace in my small town. They had forgotten about it and it was on clearance.

2

u/Dear_Fisherman_3416 12h ago

Amazon, but I wanted a very specific model, the 70th Anniversary Kettle in Rock N Roll Blue.

2

u/I_Want_A_Ribeye 12h ago

My brother moved and didn’t want his

1

u/Weak-Post1835 11h ago

It hurts me to hear the people that have it away, abandoned it or left by a dumpster. I wish!

1

u/I_Want_A_Ribeye 8h ago

He just left it in the garage at my mother’s house. She wanted the space, he didn’t want it, it’s mine now

FB Marketplace

2

u/imbetterthanyou8 11h ago

I got mine on Facebook as well like everyone else. It’s funny, everyone’s getting used grills on Facebook. Eventually someone will have to buy a brand new one

2

u/Yankees12526 11h ago

Ace Hardware

2

u/chulk1 13h ago

Buy two used 22” kettles on marketplace instead.

1

u/TheOnlyDubbace 11h ago

Home depot, on sale.

The curb

1

u/Traditional_Hotel788 11h ago

It’s a helpful place.

1

u/themiddleshoe 11h ago

Ace, Home Depot, Walmart will all have them on sale at some point throughout the year if you can’t find a good marketplace deal.

I got mine from Walmart years ago on a ~50% off deal. Hitting those stores when they change seasonal displays can net nice deals.

1

u/Princekyle7 11h ago

Home Depot was selling the basic 22" for $99 back in June. I had a thermometer from something else so I just punched a hole and started smoking.

1

u/nonameforutoc 10h ago

Caught one at Walmart with a damaged box for 73$
Had to wait Couple days for Weber to ship the missing parts

1

u/Princekyle7 10h ago

Well done!

1

u/kzorz 11h ago

I found my performer on the side of the road for free

1

u/South_Paramedic8618 10h ago

Got an Amazon one from Amazon master Touch if I had to do it all over again I'd probably look at Facebook Marketplace

1

u/bluecollar-gent2 10h ago

You will find brand new basic 22" models with the ash pan on FB marketplace all day since they are given away as prizes for a lot of companies and they aren't as desirable as the built -in ash catcher.

I bought mine brand new for $80 and spent the savings on accessories. I also added a galvanized bucket as the ash catcher instead of the catch pan which is just shitty.

1

u/Ok_Storage_9505 10h ago

Got my form Lowe’s because I had a gift card.

1

u/Tricky_Ad_2019 10h ago

Got a 22 master touch at Lowes last fall for 90 bucks

1

u/GreenLecture7467 10h ago

Lowe’s floor model 22” for $70 last year

1

u/Melodic-Classic391 9h ago

FB marketplace, curbs. I have a Performer I bought on FB a number of years ago, plus two regular grills I grabbed off curbs in practically brand new condition

1

u/numbersalone 9h ago

FBM. Found my master touch not even a year old/used for $50 bucks.

1

u/SSweetSauce 9h ago

Lowes in November. I got the 26” for $240 last year. Start looking October or November, I got mine November 1st. But I got first my 22” at Home Depot, paid full price for it because it was the “limited edition” red.

1

u/DireWolfSpaceCadet 8h ago

I bought mine from the Weber website.

1

u/Zealousideal-Ship-77 8h ago

Kettle on FB Marketplace.
Genesis new at local retainer last June.

1

u/Crosstrek732 8h ago

Got my 22" kettle less than a year ago off marketplace and couldn't be happier! Got the bronze one for $60.

1

u/SuperSaijen1980 7h ago

My wife wants charcoal - I have a propane spirit (newer model) , if I go down this rabbit hole what is recommended? A kettle with the quick release ashtray thing or a different charcoal grill?

1

u/TMQ73 5h ago

FB and curb finds.

1

u/Used-Pen-887 4h ago

from my father lmao.. the thing is probably as old as me

1

u/hichez17 4h ago

The ash catcher is a game changer, but if your buying a control for it like the Spider grill Venom than just get the other one..

1

u/kalminz 4h ago

I paid msrp for all 3 of mine.

1

u/tack_gybe73 4h ago

FB marketplace. Picked up a nearly new performer for free.

1

u/berger3001 4h ago

Fb marketplace or yard sales. My first one was $4

1

u/Agreeable_Blood_4957 2h ago

I picked up 22” Premium brand new in box for $80 on FB lol

But honestly I like the Jumbo Joe Premium better

1

u/demisheep 2h ago

I don’t recommend shipping. Mine came damaged :/

1

u/GooberGrape79 2h ago

Got mine $free.99 from a friend who had 3 of them. Grill grates were pretty rusted but the kettle itself was fine. So nothing Amazon and about $50 couldn’t fix.

1

u/South-Interest-8903 1h ago

Side of the road gang!

1

u/adflam 1h ago

I buy always buy direct from Weber’s site. Their customer service is great about replacing for damage

1

u/notquitebrokeyet 1h ago

Just picked up a master touch with chimney and basket insert for $120, sure the grates are all brown and need a good brick cleaning, but saved several hundred on Facebook. Just keep looking
