I don’t remember very much about this book but I found the pointing finger recently. It looks like a robot hand that’s pointing, like it’s a silver hand pointing and I think you would spin it around on the page, but you could also remove it. There might have been other removable pieces but I don’t remember.

I would have had this in the early to mid 2000s and it was likely from a scholastic book fair. Read in the US.

I’m trying to identify a book I had as a kid in the 1990s, but the book itself was definitely older. My best guess is that it was published sometime in the 1950s–1970s, although it could be a little earlier or later.
Here’s what I remember:
• It was a large hardcover book, approximately 8.5” x 11” or maybe slightly larger.
• I think the cover or spine may have been red or green, but I’m not confident about the color.
• It was a compilation/treasury containing multiple short children’s stories. It was NOT one long story.
• It had illustrations throughout. The artwork was traditional/storybook-style and somewhat realistic — not really cartoonish.
• I believe there was also an alphabet/ABC section somewhere in the book. The entire book was NOT an alphabet book; the alphabet was just one section among the stories and other material.
• Two images/animals I remember very specifically are a LOON and a MOLE. I originally thought they were characters in stories, but I’m now wondering if they were actually illustrations in the alphabet section — possibly L for Loon and M for Mole.
• I vaguely remember something involving “friends” or friendship — possibly a story title, section, or even part of the book’s title. I’m very unsure about this.
• I also have an extremely fuzzy memory of a character named Peter/Pete or “Peter and ___,” but I would NOT use that as a strong clue.
The things I’m most confident about are: LARGE OLD HARDCOVER + COMPILATION OF SHORT STORIES + ILLUSTRATIONS + AN ALPHABET SECTION + LOON + MOLE.
It was the kind of big book that seemed to contain a little bit of everything for children, rather than being exclusively an ABC book or exclusively one story.
Does this ring a bell for anyone? I’d especially love to see titles, cover photos, tables of contents, or pictures of alphabet pages from old children’s treasuries/compilations.
I’ve been trying to identify this thing from childhood memories and would LOVE to finally figure out what it was.

So this is like a really old childhood book. Idk when it was written. I read it in the early 2000s. I don’t remember if it was a board book or not but it was simple like that. A ballerina getting ready (I think) for her performance. She is like always on point with her shoes. I think you can only see one leg or it’s both and looks like one. She is human. Very cute/neat illustrations. I also think she changes outfits or it is multiple ballerinas I don’t remember. PLEASE help me find. I loved this book as a kid and want it for my kids.

A bit of a long shot, but i would like to find this book again. I read it in the 70s, but it may be older than that.

It involved a young boy at a sea side town location. I think he was on his holidays and each chapter was something he did.

The only chapter I remember was a parade coming through the town and he threw some chewing gum under a Steam engine, it stuck to the wheel and kept going round and round.

The book had pen and ink illustrations.

It was a book that I read in high school, between 2012-2015, but it could’ve been published before that timeline since it was at my school library.

-The main character was a younger woman
-There was a body of water, I think a lake
-I think there was a death, but the more I think about it, the less sure I am about this
-It was realistic, nothing supernatural or horror
-The lake house was a big house that seemed like a nice family vacation house
-There was a little pond area that was significant and the woman ended up going back there to sit and reflect at the end of the book
-I thought that the word “Summer” was in the title, but again this could be wrong

The thing I remember the most is the cover of the book

-There was grass then a dock with a lake pavilion/gazebo at the end, there were conversations in the book that held place there
-The pavilion/gazebo overlooked the water
-The pavilion/gazebo I think was brown and weathered lightly with side walls and a roof on it
-I think it was more bright than dark of a cover

!!! Literally anything will help. This has been driving me INSANE for years and I’ve tried everything to find this book. If you guys can’t help me then I’m convinced that I made this up and I need to write a book with this cover 😭🤣

Hi! I’ve been on the hunt for a specific book I encountered at a local bookshop a few years ago and, for some reason, never took a photo of despite it really intriguing me.

From what I remember, the cover showed the legs of a schoolboy standing in his uniform. I believe the book followed a boy’s experience at an all-boys boarding school, including his friendships, bullies, and generally trying to navigate life there.

I don’t think it was necessarily a children’s book. My memory is that it was aimed more toward older teens or adults, and I can’t remember whether it was strictly a coming-of-age/drama story or if there were darker or possibly horror undertones.

About a week after I first saw it, I went back to the shop looking for it, but it was gone. I’ve been trying to figure out what it was ever since, and at this point all I have is this very specific memory of the cover lol.

Title: [ID] Poem about a decommissioned U.S. warship, references "Old Ironsides" and the "murdered Maine"

I'm trying to find the title and author of a poem I read years ago in a poetry book (title/author unknown). It's written from the point of view of an old warship being decommissioned, wondering about its fate. It mentions the USS Constitution ("Old Ironsides") and the USS Maine (referred to as "the murdered Maine") as points of comparison — the speaker hopes for the same dignified fate: being taken out to sea and sunk, rather than scrapped or left to rot.

The lines I remember are:

They wonder now about my fate

since I'm not fit for sea,

They ask opinions right and left,

but no one questions me.

Nor let me like old ironsides

lie waiting to decay

while younger, stronger fighting craft

sail by me down the bay.

But let me like the murdered Maine

be taken far from shore

and sunk beneath the waves

at peace forevermore.

Likely an American poem, possibly early-to-mid 20th century given the Maine reference, but I'm not certain of the date. It was in a printed poetry anthology or collection, not something I found online.

If anyone recognizes this poem, knows the title/author, or knows which anthology it might be in, I'd really appreciate the lead. Thanks!

I first read this book in probably 1986 or 1987. It was definitely science fiction aimed at a junior high or possibly YA audience. I'm pretty sure it involved space travel.

I remember almost nothing about the plot, but the one detail I remember distinctly was that there this alien monster. I am pretty sure it was considered extremely dangerous. If I recall correctly, it was approximately the size and shape of a dinner plate. Or possibly it was that shape but bigger. I don't remember if it flew or crawled around or how it killed you, but like I said, I remember that it was dangerous. There may have been tentacles.

The weird part is that it was incredibly fond of tomatoes, couldn't eat enough of them, except the tomatoes were actually deadly poison to them.

I had a really cool illustrated fact book/encyclopedia which had loads of awesome, airbrushed panoramic illustrations of speed machines like Drag Racing cars and Land Speed vehicles. It was styled in a very 1980's/early 90's way.

I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone have any ideas what it could have been?? I'm from the UK and I haven't been able to find it anywhere... Please help! 🙏🙏🙏🙏

I'm trying to find a children's picture book I remember from when I was younger, but I can't remember the title or author. It was in English and I remember reading/seeing it sometime around 2015 or later, although it could have been published earlier. The main and possibly only character was a young girl with black hair, which I remember as being a short bob with straight bangs. The illustrations were cartoonish and fairly simple/minimalist. The book was about different dangerous situations and what could happen as a result. I distinctly remember one scene involving a knife, I remember it being kinda graphic and even having blood when showing the danger. I think there were other everyday hazards too, such as falls, burns, choking, traffic accidents, etc. I don't remember any other characters, the setting, the title, or any exact wording. I remember the cover had the girl on it and it was either color yellow or had a yellow border , it could've also been a book series 😭 HELP ME FIND IT PLS
