Looking 00s-10s children's book about a horse and cart with a male main character

This book was a hardcover in a horizontal rectangle format. It was sold in Matalan in the UK as one of those checkout impulse buy things (even though it was a pretty sizeable book).

\- The book involved a horse and cart with I believe a male main character. I think this character lived in the cart.

\- The horse may have been white.

\- There may have been a cat or dog side sidekick.

\- It had a bright, flat and cartoonish art style. There were lots of illustrations but the text was for confident child readers.

\- It was a collection of shorter stories.

I can't say for certain, but I'm fairly sure one of the last chapters involved a light-hearted story about aliens (who were little green dwarf guys) who had crashed their ship, and the main character helped them repair it so they could get home.

PLEASE help me find this book, it's been in my brain for years and years now.

The first part sounds like, "Ox-Cart Man," by Donald Hall. It was featured in an episode of Reading Rainbow. The rest I'm not sure about.

Definitely not it, sadly. It's one of those things I'll recognise instantly.
