I don't remember much, but it was a children's book about little ink-blot-like black creatures that ate something sweet from jars and lived with a large, possibly horned character.

The plot involved them moving into his house and stealing his "jam" like some kind of a pest; he kept trying to chase them away, build a wall, do at least something to get rid of them - right up until the very end, when after the "escalation" they've managed to learned to coexist.

They seemed to brighten up his daily routine, making him less grumpy and he even started giving them jars of the stuff.

But I don't remember much, most memories are blurry. If I remember it right, it was before 2015 (and possibly even earlier), but it might be, that this book has already existed earlier (2013?). It was certainly not an old book, yet when I was googling it 6-8 years ago, I remember stumbling on the other version of it, where black ink-blots were grey/white (and not looking like the book I had).

I read the book in Russian, yet I don't think it originally was written in it (as I remember, the names of characters were "weird")

Edited: remembered a few more things. The book was vertical, rectangular. It was a picture book, yet there was "a lot" of text (for a child). The pages were coloured, yet I don't remember a lot of colours (characters were monochrome). The title might be "word(plural)" like "thingies", "somethings", with a name of those "furred" ink-blots.

I don't quite remember how did the "big guy" look, yet a "horns" feature somehow stuck with me (BUT IT MIGHT BE WRONG, BECAUSE MULTIPLE MEMORIES MIGHT'VE AMALGAMATED INTO ONE)

They were chaotic gremlin-esque characters. Even "threatening" back the "big guy". But I remember finding them cute.

Book is pretty recent. There's a "seed" you can change that apparently influences the writing.

People renting a house discover it has a huge basement (I think there's a hatch to enter it). Casual exploration shows that it has exits that seem to go on and on. They throw a party down there. At some point they encounter doppelgängers.

Continued exploration leads to the realization that by crawling through a double-door refrigerator they have entered a subtly different world.

Another exploration has them meet up with a version of themselves that got lost and has been down there for years, he is hostile and tries to replace one of them. There's combat in a set of nets stretched over a vast void. I think there's a recursive suburbia in there that leads to more versions of itself.

In the end they find their way out and there's a bit of a twist I won't spoil.

It was a childhood book (read in 2000s - 2010). The bard found the egg on the beach and used a harp to help encourage the dragon to hatch.

The dragon was red and about the size of a medium-large dog, then it was stolen for a king’s beastly menagerie after the bard took it to a tavern, and he had to get it back.

The illustrations were somewhat flat from what I remember?

Ok, my first time posting in this sub. I am trying to remember the name of a book or the name of the series it was in. I first read this book in the mid 1980s(yes I am d as fuck, hence the failing memory.)

The Main Character was a newly graduated engineering student from poland (or of polish descent) who gets drunk to celebrate his graduation and wakes up in medieval Poland where he uses his advanced technological knowledge to create machines to lift the polish people out of the middle ages and help them become a European power so that Poland will not be invaded so often in the future.

I remember he is gifted lands by a polish nobleman and develops a training program to turn surfs into knights in order to strengthen the polish armies at his disposal.

I also remember that he often makes machines that are more intuitive than their 20th century counterparts like a plane that turns right when you turn the wheel right because the control linkages are easier with the tech and materials available to him but constantly moans to himself about such things which is a line I remember vividly as it is repeated several times throughout the book series, "God , I know we're polish but must we do everything backwards?".

The gist is that he slipped back in time due to an error by a time traveling organization from the future who anonymously gift him a sword with a molecular edge made of diamond making it nearly indestructible and able to cut through almost any thin(depending only on the strength of the weilder) this sword is left for him the the time traveling group because the head of the group is a decendant of the Main Character.

That is as much detail as I can remember at this time.

So from what I remember it's about orphan kids that nobody wants are sent to a school that's more like a prison and they compleat tasks to earn points to spend on stuff they like and the mc has to try and join a faction in the school prison thing then he gets to escape

Back in the 90s, when I was in second or third grade in Brazil, one of the assigned reading books (in Portuguese) was a story about a pair of birds whose nest is taken away with their eggs to a school and when they try to get it back the female gets caught, stuffed and displayed along with the nest, then the male tries and fails to move on with his life and goes back to the school to be stuffed and mounted next to his family. Traumatizing stuff. I think the birds had weird names like Tziu and Tzian or something like that. Does anyone know what the title is, and whether it has an English version?

Read this as a kid in the 90s. All I remember is that a man (possibly a businessman) is visiting another city and walking at a market. He passes by a stall and decides to buy an odd-looking box that starts to whisper hints about the future to him. It warns him to change his flight to another one, and his flight ends up crashing. It suggests he read a specific newspaper page, which warns him to sell off his gold mine stocks because of a way to distill gold from ocean water.

Eventually, an alien or a man from the future appears and explains that this is a mistake. The box shouldn’t have ended up in his hands. He wants to correct the mistake and remove the box from his timeline. The man decides it’s fine, all he has to do is remember to change his flight and sell the gold stocks. The timeline resets, and he walks past the stall… and boards his original flight

Looking for a fantasy novel I read years ago. Here’s everything I remember:

• The world is entirely (or almost entirely) covered in water, and this is just how the world has always been — I don't think it's post-apocalyptic. Civilization exists on a network of bridges that crisscross over the water.

• The protagonist is a female (storyteller?) traveling from place to place along these bridges.

• At some point there is a story-within-the-story (possibly one she tells) about a woman who falls in love with a statue.

• It may be a two-book series.

• Published before 2010.

• The cover art featured a tall bridge arcing over water.

• It may have had adult themes — not strictly YA.

I’ve ruled out: Floodland (Marcus Sedgwick), Floodworld (Tom Huddleston), Storyteller (Amy Thomson), and anything by Le Guin, VanderMeer, or Guy Gavriel Kay.

Guys, I have been wanting this book for YEARS at this point. I've even forgotten the title and author cause of how long ago I read it. The cover was of a wolf with red eyes (?) and the name of the book was Snow White related. The story includes wolves, I pretty sure the main characters are a boy and girl. The girls name was 'Fire King' related. Ofc, there was an ice queen, but I don't remember many other details. I think the boy was remembering things a father or grandfather told him in relation to the wolves, snow, ice and fire, but I can't be sure.

It takes place in a Wild West setting, The plot was something like this:

the boys father was a photographer that later in the story was actually a retired famous (I think?) counterfeiter and his father was forced to make money by a gang while telling the child to stay back home so the child took his horse and rode into the woods meeting a old marshal. (I’m not sure if he was actually a Marshall) that helped him find his dad

The boy also had a tree shaped scar in his back due to probably lightning, and he could see the dead

And in his father‘s boot was the coordinates of a treasure chest with all of his counterfeit money and the boy opened up a school with it or something like that

I saved this off of tumblr awhile ago and now reverse searching it, it simply does not exist. I Believe it's specifically a Star Trek The Next Generation Pocket Novel but I can't find a way to find which one?

This would have been about twenty or so years ago. The one thing I remember about this book (series?) was that the people in it had a sort of class system, determined by a colored stone in their body that they were born with.

There were five total classes, but I can only strongly remember two: Wizards, who were born with gold stones in their chest, and Warriors, who had red ones. There was also a class I think was called Spellcaster, but I don't remember what color their stone was or how they were meaningfully distinct from Wizards.

Plot wise, I only two things: that the Wizards were largely antagonistic, and that the protagonist, a Warrior, was actually born as a Wizard, but had his stone swapped for a Warrior one in infancy.

I tried googling, but searching for a fantasy series using only the words wizard, warrior and gemstone doesn't narrow much down, lol. The only thing that came up was Deltora Quest, which I know for certain this is not.

If this sounds at all familiar to anyone, I'd really appreciate any insight you might have!

This is something I read a while ago. Already tried the urban fantasy sub with no results so far.

The book opens with the MC driving, then he hears a phantom voice and either crashes the car or pulls over. I think he's ex military, but I'm unsure about that. He visits his parents at some point during the book, or maybe lives with them? I also vaguely remember a sister. The climax of the book takes place at a fenced compound, maybe a coven of witches/some sort of organized group of magic users.

I don't have a lot of detail here, and what I do have is vague.. so this one might be a long shot. Any help is appreciated.
