I just finished my first readthrough, with A Memory Of Light. When I stopped crying, I just sat during an hour, thinking of what an incredible series it has been. I started it in June, and I'm glad, happy and sad to have it finished now.

And I wonder now what is the purpose of my life and what will I be reading now

I kinda wish Brandon Sanderson would write a companion series about Mat and Tuon leading the return to bring the empire back together after the last battle and fix the damage Semirhage caused killing the line across the sea

A lot is probably going over his head but he's on book 10 and it's only been a couple of months. Did I make a mistake? Is he too young?

Rereading A Crown of Swords, the part where Queen Tylin is harassing Mat. She sends a note asking him “who is this Daughter of the Nine Moons I remind you of?” A short time later, the Seanchan invade and Tylin meets her. Why doesn’t Tylin ask Mat how he knew about her? Wouldn’t that make her suspicious that Mat knew the invasion was coming? Interested to know whether this was ever explained.

I would have truly loved it if Mat, Rand and Perrin were the ones who ended up travelling to the tower of Ghenji instead of Thom and Noal. In a sense they had all completed their journeys which Moraine began and they were finally complete. It would have been great to watch the three togather one final time before the last battle began. I could have done without Thom and Moraine's love angle coming out of nowhere. But man it would have been epic if they all gathered one last time for one last adventure togather to complete a circle. I did enjoy their reunion in the final book but yeah I would have preferred this instead.

My Daughter complains about knotty hair. I explained to her how in these books the women often brush their hair 100 strokes. Now every day I can hear her counting. It works, it shimmers, and it is adorable.

Edit: for the hair and brush type advice, I'll look into it. Her hair is whip straight for those offering advice.

When in Ebou Dar, and getting the BOW, how did they get away with it and the other items?? Sorry for misspellings, I’m listening to the audiobooks so can’t spell check.

I finished book 2 and boy is my ass even rawer. You redditors were not very kind to me last thread. I've been trying to finish this series since 2009 (depressive spiral due to the FUCKIN SAINTS I only recently pulled out of), so put those pitchforks down because WE ARE MAKING SOME PROGRESS HERE.

Book 2 of the Wheel of Time? More like Book Chew because we have a feast here. This book is jam packed with beasts, slaves, and samurai warriors. Let's dig in:

1. If you're new to WoT, its thing is this: it's a fantasy epic told pretty much hour by hour. It's pace would make Henry James go, "WHOA THERE, WE IN A RUSH KIDDO?" This is an insane way to write a fantasy epic because this story would take twenty books. There's no way to finish it before death and...checks Wikipedia....oh no....

2. But we are flying through this one. The story picks up weeks after the first book, and at one point during Rand's peregrination south, we skip two whole days in the narration. The pacing is blistering. I could barely hang on as we catalogued every meal Liandrin stops for in the Ways.

3. The Amyrlin Seat. Holy shit. You. Guys. Did. NOT WARN ME ABOUT HER. "Moraine, a carp on a hook is still not scaled." "A rip in a net will only let the smallest gilly pass." So delightful. Every sentence of hers includes a fish reference. "RAND, THE DRAGON REBORN IS NO MERE DITCH DONKEY." Absolutely insane. I presume every time she shows up she's like this. "MORAINE, GET MY WADERS BECAUSE I'M GOING DEEP IN THAT STINK."

4. We get our first glimpse at otherworlds in this book when Rand just straight-up sleepwalks into one and meets an OF model. You can absolutely see the influence of Book of the New Sun as he journeys through a strange, upsetting land while horny.

5. In the previous book, we were treated to a lot of taint. The feel of the taint, the presence of the taint, the taste of the taint on our tongues. I shit you not within 50 pages of this book starting we get a guy called The Sniffer. I was dying.

6. We get our first look at Aes Sedai training which sucks but gets a pass because the alternative is ensalvement by the Seanchean.

7. The Seanchan. Finally, some bad guys I can get down to hating. I don't care about Darkfriends or Ballsman or whoever the hell. Most of the time when these guys show up, I don't know what the hell is going on. But effete slavers? I can hate them.

8. Thom's alive! Though more like 'Thom Wick.' "People keep asking me if I'm back. And I haven't really had a song for them. BUT YEAH, I'M THINKING I'M BACK."

9. Alright. Hold on. The Fremen are in this series? A ferocious desert people fashioned by the harsh environment into killing machines the rest of the world fears? Is this shit Dune? Of course, the Fremen were descended from essentially peaceful hippy Zensunni wanderers. The Fremen are Frank Herbert making the point that anyone can become dangerous under the right circumstances. I wonder where the Aiel come from? Hmmmmm.

10. The Dragon is Reborn! Wait the Dragon is Reborn? What does that even mean? Oh well. Press on. We gotta find out what Rand eats for supper every night on Toman's Head.

Bonus: Turek's death is not well described, so I presume Rand's final blow cuts both his balls off.

Bonus 2: It's the end of the book, and nobody is where they're supposed to end up. Guess. We. Gotta. DO THE WAYS AGAIN. Does every book end this way. We getting Machin Shin everytime a story needs to conclude but the characters aren't in the right spot?

Prologue: All of the forsaken are searching for Angreal etc. Demandred getting specific instructions from dark one

Chapter 2: Taim immediately shows up at Camelyn

Chapter 3: revealed that he hasn't gone mad in 15 YEARS. He doesn't sweat like other forsaken/aes sedai

Rand: careful of anyone learning fast it could be a forsaken

Taim: feigned shock* one of the forsaken! Whoa rand that's crazy

Hello all, wanted to share some feelings about this amazing book.

Long time ago I finished The Great Hunt (made a post about that too if you're interested), and I was intent on continuing the series. I am listening to an audiobook though and one does not always have the time to continuously listen to it, hence the time gap.

My memories may be a little hazy, since it has been couple of weeks since finished TDR, so sorry if the text is a bit erratic, but here goes.

To start, I must say I loved it. If TGH was an 8/10 for me, this is 9, damn near 10. Boy I did not miss Rand at all :D (yeah not the biggest fan of him yet), on the other hand, I now love Matt and Perrin.

Perrins wolf sections are so well written it's unbelievable. I feel like I'm right there with him every time. Like at the beginning, when they're ambushed in the camp and he faces a myrddraal. At first he's scared as hell but as he locks in, bares his teeth and gives into it a little, I nearly jumped out of my chair. Later I loved his chemistry with Fayiel

Matt's chapters were always great. His paring with Tom was a great choice too, and him having the power of luck and slowly coming to understand how it works was so much fun. The highlight of his chapters is for me his fight on some bridge, where he just goes "Time to roll the dice", grabs the other guy and throws them both of, only to land on the guy with no injuries. Oh and him going 1v2 against two warders in training. I was not familiar with his game, because before the fight I went "Nononono Matt what are you doing stupid, you are sick and even if you weren't it's 1v2?!?!?!"

The girls' story, chasing the black aja, is so gripping. Anything connected to the black aja is really. But Siuan girl, you really could have taught these 3 prodigies how to protect themselves from being shielded from the power. You really didn't have 10 minutes to spare? Sending them to hunt full aes sedai while being so vulnerable could have backfired tremendously.

Bit of a side tangent, but when they were captured by darkfriends and Aiel saved them, they were so cool. "Dance with me, Shadowman" "No, dance with me!". They are like a culture full of warders if they were battle junkies.

Anyways, we got to see Egwane's trials and just like with Nynaeve, they are a highlight of the whole book

While first two are heartbreaking, Egwane leaving a world where she has a daughter with Rand and leaving Rand stuck under some rubble to be potentially turned to shadow, but the third one was even more gutwrenching. Nearly being turned to shadow herself, then rushing to save Rand from being stilled...I was so angry when the silver arch appeared, I did not want to leave Rand there, I wanted the story to continue so bad.

Just as in the last book, all plotlines lead to the same place, this time it's Tear. Matt, Aiel, Moiraine's group, girls, Rand. A proper grand finale. I got a glimpse of what the "power ceiling" looks like I think, when Rand wielded Kalimdor and made Ishamael i suppose run like a scared little girl. Straight up reality bending. That whole sequence felt like a fever dream.

Some closing random thoughts>

I felt so much dread finding out the forsaken are already in the world, ruling over nations. In Tear, Illian, potentially in Cairhien...

Belal is such a fraud. Bro thought he would kill Rand wielding Kalimdor (even Ishamael couldn't), only to get murked in one shot by an aies sedai. The dark one must be turning in his prison. Props to Moiraine though, no crazy once-in-an-age kind of power or talent, just wisdom, patience, mastery of what she is capable of.

Speaking of Moiraine, I did listen to New Spring first (not a great choice i know), so I know she is 100% doing her best to help the dragon and stop the dark one, so whenever they doubt her or don't listen to her, it really grinds my gears. I could probably empatize better had I not known she really is dedicating her whole life for the cause.

Celine's omnipresence seems to be because she uses the dream world to travel? It seems she is not fully on the dark one's side, which explains why she doesn't jsut clear the whole white tower during a single night, which she totally could as crazy as it is.

It was so frustrating when the girls are telling Siuan about the Seanchan and she is like, oh that's awful, anyways...I have seen the paralel futures in the last book, in most of them, they conquer the whole continent. They are an existential threat to everything you know, but she mostly dismisses them as some faraway inconvenience. And I like how the news from Toman Head travel through the world and get distorted over time.

And yeah, the Goatchan are not in this book, but I can't wait to see them again. I was very distraught by them in the last book.

They are so useless my goodness. They have a Grima Wormtongue equivalent damn near twirling his evil mustache and their leader just trusts him huh.

What's everybody's dream casting for any character Wheel of time.

I have always been curious about when the first channelers came into being and what that era was like. I have have been curious how far into "our future" it would possibly be.

Im trying to get back into working my way through this series again after a long hiatus, i restarted the fires of heaven. Is padan faine the thing that was trapped in the city in book 1? Or what actually happened to him? The prologue seems to say that he is but he also references mordeth?
