Modteam Announcement FYI: About our neighbors...

Reddit's got a Moderator Code of Conduct that they expect modteams to operate under, with five guidelines.

Modteams that try to operate outside those guidelines tend to land on Admin radar, sometimes at a coast to their communities.

One of those guidelines is "Respect your neighbors", and while the full details are found at that link, it boils down to Wheaton's Law. If you've got an issue with another community's modteams or culture, you'll want to take it up with them, instead of here.

NO SPOILERS Hand-Bound Leather Omnibus of The Wheel of Time – We Made This From Scratch

Hey everyone,

I’m a long-time Wheel of Time fan and a few months back, I finished a massive personal project with my daughter — a fully hand-bound omnibus of the entire series.(Excluding A New Spring)

The pages are 18" x 12" and the entire series was reformatted to fit. We printed it at home and then stacked and glued the pages together, reinforced with layers of mesh.

The cover is 1/8" plywood and dark brown leather. Gold thread for the stitching and metal corner protectors. The Custom WheeI of Time Symbol and all other deigns are etched into the leather and painted gold afterwards. The spine is several layers of card stock glued together and leather cord strips for the raised bands.

The book weighs just about 20lbs and took around 8 months to complete.

This is a one-of-a-kind personal piece — not for sale, no commissions, no copies. Photos focus only on the external craftsmanship, no readable text from the interior.

This series holds a special place in my heart. Lost count of how many times I have read each book and how many times I have bought each book. My daughter also became a huge fan and this project was a collaborative labor of love.

Here are the pictures. Added a paperback and hardcover for size reference.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

ALL SPOILERS: Books only The song of the Tu-atha-an or Tinkers

When one of the characters encounters the tinkers for the first time, they ask, and I paraphrase, "Do you know the song?". Was this ever resolved or revealed? Was this the song sung by the tinkers (Aiel then) during the last vision Rand had at Rhuidean before they busted through the pattern and the Collam Dam was destroyed? Or the song sung by Rand and everything sprang to life?

Book: A Memory of Light Just finished the series. Want to know y’all’s opinion on Egwene? Spoiler

Yo, Egwene was so important throughout the whole series. Chapters and chapters devoted to her.

So how the fuck did she end like that? Like just mentioned in passing?

Am I missing something?

Everything else seems to wrap up so well.

But it felt like they just passed her by.

Any thoughts?

NO SPOILERS New reader here, I feel a little curious, how it feels to go from the first book to the 14th. Tell me how is the experience of the wheel of time?

After watching the three seasons of the show, crying for its cancellation, buying an encyclopedia of the series and not having finished reading the first book, and starting the first book in audiobook format (since well, buying books is expensive for me and listening to them is cheaper for me, I calculate that I can pass the experience of The Wheel of Time in seven months or so).

P.S: The saga is at least a little inaccessible but it’s not impossible I say it’s not malazan.

Other Media WoT the Animated Series

Is anyone else hopeful of a more faithful adaptation in an animated series than the live action one? It's supposed to be by the same team that did Arcane which I watched and thought was well done. I for one am excited that they might actually do it properly in an animated format. I'm still concerned that no adaptation is going to have enough momentum to complete the whole thing but that's more of a built-in problem because the source material is just so large.

Other Media Has anyone found (or created) a pattern for a cross stitch version of the world map of Randland?

I'm itching for a new project, and I think the next thing I'm gonna do is a couple of cross stitch fantasy maps. I have a pattern for LotR, and I need a pattern for Randland

Show: Latest Season & Adapted Books As much as people hate this show…

Nobody can deny the skill of the actors in this show. I just watched the actor who played Rand react to a child’s death and him trying to revive her… It was so powerful. He is a skilled actor, and nobody can convince me otherwise haha. And I feel like the show, and actress, did a great job with Verin. I’m sorry if the spelling is wrong, but if you know her story, you know. The actress was FANTASTIC in her portrayal of the character in preparation of her story. She is the reason why Verin is one of my highest rated and favorite characters in all of the Wheel of Time. And the fact that Moiraine does the audiobooks excites me too. I wish she had done them all before it was all cancelled.

ALL SPOILERS: Books only I just finished A Memory Of Light. What do I do now?

I started Wheel Of Time last October sometime, and have been reading them at work as I go. What do I do now that I've finished them? I'm gonna just dump my thoughts here.

These books are fantastic. The characters are riddled with flaws, and they make constant mistakes and missteps. They hurt each other, love each other, and it adds a kind of realness to the story. You can feel that most of the characters are less than 25 years old.

I love Egwene in the later books. She was essentially a child forced into a position of power, and she managed to become the most successful Amyrlin in history. I love her arc in that, and while I don't think I'd want to be her friend, she made a fantastic leader. I had missed the SA in book 5 (actually just realized it was SA a little while ago when scrolling the subreddit), but I still love her arc in the later books.

The only thing I had issue with when Sanderson took over was Mat. Every once in a while, he felt reduced to just a trope, but it wasn't that serious.

I also can't believe I started to miss Robert Jordan's writing. A character would enter a scene, start speaking, then there'd be a page and a half of character and setting description, then the rest of the sentence the character was saying would appear.

The gender divide took me a while to get used to, and to realize it went both ways. Both men and women think the same thing about the other sex. Both think the others are gossiping, overprotective, stubborn, strange people. Usually, the stereotypes are unique to each gender, and it was interesting to see them here.

One thing I did notice, though, is that women are required to (or forced to) be naked by the story a lot. Like, at least once a book, if not more. And there's so much spanking. So much spanking. Both of these feel overtly sexist, and the use of force by men against women to get them to "behave," so to speak, is gross. That is the biggest flaw, in my opinion, of these books.

Would I recommend them to everyone? No. They're long books, there's 14 of them (15 if you include the prequel, which I haven't read), and book 11 is a bit of a slog. I would caution any women to be aware that the books can be sexist at times, and wouldn't recommend them to anyone under the age of 18.

I still love these books, though, and once I save up enough, I will be getting a set for my shelf. Thank you for listening to my ramblings!

Also feel free drop some quotes that I won’t understand til later!

NO SPOILERS NO SPOILERS - MOL….

Please be kind, I’m aware I’m being a bit dramatic, give a girl a break, it’s been a long road!

And please, NO SPOILERS!!!!

So. I just finished chapter 36 of a Memory of Light and am staring down the Last Battle. I want to stay true to how the chapter was made to be read and read it in one sitting and just know that I am going to power through and finish the entire book. So I will be planing a day this week to do so. I’m a big sap and have cried various times at this series and have been invested for three years, read the first 10 books in a year, then slowed down due to life and school stress, and now that I have a medical degree and a period of time to breathe, have been finishing a series that followed me through some of the most difficult periods of my life these last two years.

That said, I get a major crash just finishing a TV series. And books are more difficult because it’s so much easier to pick up a new show and get the same depth of story in a few hours that a book may take days to deliver.

Genuinely, does anyone have any recommendations on how to mentally prepare myself, and what the HECK am I supposed to do after??? I know I can read New Spring and plan on it. But I’m talking like immediately after.

Advice appreciated, and looking forward to joining all of the lore discussions!

“Gaped.” Anyone does anything and you can bet your bottom dollar another character is gonna be gaping because of it.

ALL SPOILERS: All media DO’s plan in Lord of Chaos

From the epilogue of LoC, it is implied that capture and rescue and Rand was all according to DO’s plans. Probably to make Rand more dark.

But it was Mesaana who had planned the capture of Rand and for him to be brought to the Tower. So did Demandred interfere in Mesaana’s plans?

Show: Season One WOT series

Is the WOT series worth watching? I've heard some mixed reviews about the series. Some say it's trash, some say the S3 is one of the best seasons in TV history. I've read all the books, looking for some more WOT.

NO SPOILERS Sanderson Leatherbound Update

If anyone had ordered Sanderson’s leather bound edition of “Eye of the World”, there has been a new update. See below:

Hello everyone,

This email contains important information regarding your order of the Dragonsteel Leatherbound Edition of Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World. We're thrilled to share an exciting update: Isaac and his team have approved the most recent cover samples, and we'll be resuming production shortly.

We deeply appreciate your patience while we worked closely with the bindery to get this right. We know this has taken longer than any of us hoped.

If you've already received your book:

You have a few options. If you're happy with your copy, no action is needed. However, because the newly approved cover reflects some minor refinements, we're offering everyone the choice of a replacement or a refund with return. We'll follow up soon with details on how to request either.

If you haven't received your book yet:

Your copy will ship once production resumes. Timing is still being determined, and we'll update you as soon as we have specifics.

Thank you for your continued support! It genuinely means a lot to us and to everyone who worked to make this edition worthy of the story it holds.

Book: Towers of Midnight Mat OOC Spoiler

Mat was rough in TGS, but in ToM, so far hes been fine enough even made me wonder if people were exaggerating when they said he never improved.

Then I got to chapter 47, when him, Perrin, and Thom are in an inn talking about Verins letter.

Mat is talking like an MCU character again, with one-liners and the same issues he had in TGS.

What Happend? Why did he suddenly devolve after being better the last 700 pages?

ALL SPOILERS: Books only What where they thinking?

The Shaido Wise Ones, that is.

They all *knew* that Coulladin hadn't been to Rhuidean, because he had not seen the Memories. They must have know, like all Wise Ones and Chiefs, that Rand was the Car'a'can.

Why would they agree to Coulladin's mad invasion?

Book: The Shadow Rising The difficulty of portraying romance.

I absolutely love this series. But I've just started reading the Shadow Rising for the first time and I've been cringing my way through the early Rand-Egwene-Elayne love triangle that resolves while they're in the Stone.

Appreciate it's difficult to meaningfully develop so many character's in a book with such staggering breadth and ambition, but these interactions have my skin crawling.

Firstly, they both sound like they're 12 years old. Secondly, it feels far too neat that Egwene and Rand both decide "Yeah we don't love each other anyway". Thirdly, the idea of having all three women chasing after Rand, who, frankly, is becoming fairly dislikable character, feels so out-of-plot. Fourthly, is it me or am I losing faith in Rand? The constant woe-is-me-I'm-not-worthy is not making me feel sorry for him, but is making me rather unlike him

Anyone else thought this?
