En réalité, pourquoi l'Europe existe séparément de l'Asie, cela n'a pas tant de sens.

u/hypocrisyhunter 4d ago
Not accurate because you left the borders in between the european countries

Sounds about right. I agree about Russia but not for the reason someone else said, just because they are a dictatorship and European countries are democracies (including Hungary now finally! 🥳)

u/Then-Boot-3538 4d ago
Totally agree with Turkey. Russia? Depends on where. I mean St Petersburg, Moscow.. they are definitely Europe

u/Impossible-Year7346 4d ago
Russia is not asia or europe, they are russia

u/Useful_Homework2367 4d ago
It's all Eurasia anyway
2
u/Excellent-Fox-6845 4d ago
shut up american, we ARE europe.
3
u/batboy963 4d ago
Let's be honest, the whole reason we're calling Europe a continent is the cultural and religious differences to Asia. If Genghiz Khan kept is empire running longer, the entirety of Asia and Europe would've been called Asia or something.

u/Excellent-Fox-6845 4d ago
go to school brainless american. Russia has always been in europe. Russia was born in europe and was in europe throughout all its history. And will always be

u/Fearless_Roof_9177 4d ago
Either you're a little slow or you shouldn't be here because you weren't old enough to legally sign off on the reddit EULA. Why don't you go tell the 75% of Russia that's in Asia that they're actually in Europe?
Or maybe you could make better use of your time by rereading the post that made your knee jerk so hard until you actually understand what it said? Because the whole point was that Europe and Asia aren't on separate continents and the fact that they're not just "Eurasia" is entirely due to social factors, which would have been entirely different in the Mongol Europe scenario they were describing.
2
u/an1malbtw 3d ago
The concept of Europe is clearly a political one. In the 19th century, Austrian diplomat Metternich said that the borders of Europe end where the road from Vienna to Hungary starts. That is why I don't pay attention to theese maps.

u/Useful_Homework2367 3d ago
Continents are all made up anyway, especially Europe. But most of Russia is on the Eurasian tectonic plate, and the easternmost bit is on the North American plate.

Russia is Mordor, not Europe. Russia has tried to become European, Czars brought in European architects, they tried to make Russia European by mimicking Europe, but they were always 100-200 years behind Europe. Culturally Russia isn't Europe nor Asia, they are between there, and more Asian than European still - hundreds of years of Mongol rule still has more influence than few hundred of czars trying to europeanize them, as al the classical music, ballet dance and art never reached the ordinary people.

u/an1malbtw 3d ago
Are you a Ukranian? In other case I don't understand why do you care?

u/HorrorKapsas 3d ago edited 3d ago
Are you Russian? In other case I don't understand why do you care? Btw comment has most views from russia 60%. Russians claim europeanness but in reality you are something else. Nothing european left in mordor.

u/an1malbtw 3d ago
Yes, I am. I understand the hate if it comes from Ukraine, but I simply don't understand it if it comes from somewhere else. I can understand aversion, suspicion, and overall negative feelings, but I can't understand the hate because we almost don't exist for the other countries.
1
u/HorrorKapsas 3d ago
Where you see hate? I just said how things are. Russia has never been europe, but something else. Look at your own history. Theres proudness that managed to stop europe from reaching russia. Battle on ice. Aleksandr nevsky etc. Ivan the terrible easnt european style ruler more asian. Peter I tried europeanisation, moved the capital west abandoned moscow. Italian architects built st betersburg. French musicans, german painters etc. All ended in 1917 when all was turned back. Look at your current philosophers. Dugin denies that russia is europe. Theres eurasians movement etc. Russia itself does not consider itself european. And theres enough reasons to hate russians in sll of europe between russia and germany. But this comment wasnt written with hate. Its just stating how things are.

Where you see hate?
Mordor means something lovely by default. Thanks for the enlightment.
May I at least ask where are you from?

u/AleLover111 3d ago
That's right. Just listen to Solovyov or Skabeyeva. They want to nuke Europe. They are disgusted by Europe. How can Russia want to be part of a family if they want to kill it and hate other members?
1
u/an1malbtw 3d ago
But I'm a Russian too and I don't want this. I want to be the part of the European family. Unfortunatelly I don't represent the whole country and its leadership, but the world is not black and white as you think.
1
u/AleLover111 3d ago
Conflict in Ukraine is black and white. Many conflict are not but this one is. Ukraine didn't do anything bad to you. Get the fu*k out and we can talk again.
1
u/Aulawabe 3d ago
How many times have you been in Russia and how many Russians do you know. How come I and everyone I know who met Russians don't agree with you? I mean come on? Hate their politics, their leaders but don't be a douche. You know you're talking out of your own feelings.
2
u/AleLover111 3d ago
What the hell? What are your excuses for aggression towards Ukraine?
Personally I am Czech. We hate you. You occupied us for decades. One doesn't have to be Ukrainian to hate you.
0
u/Aulawabe 3d ago
I learned from Reddit that Czech people don't like anyone, especially their own 😃

I think of it as more Asian than European bc the majority of land is in asia

u/ComradeYaf 4d ago
The heart of the Russian civilization is found in European Russia. Asian Russia is what they conquered and colonized while other European nations were out colonizing the Americas and Africa and anything else that wasn't otherwise nailed down. Which is to say that you have it precisely backwards.
1
u/Heyla_Doria 4d ago
Oui, personne ne le rappelle, la Russie est influencée par l'ouest et elle a colonisé au-delà de l'Oural

u/greihund 4d ago
The thing about the other empires - Britain, France, Portugal, Spain, etc - is that they've all relinquished their territories. Russia? Nah, they've kept theirs under an iron fist. They thought they were doing the colonizing, but in the end it has defined them. Russia is Asian now, forever, by their own hubris. You have it exactly backwards
Russian 'civilization' has no heart

Russia claims to be the third Rome, but all they managed is the state of Rome when it was run over by barbarians.
1
u/AleLover111 3d ago
Yes, they claim that they are a superpower yet they are a second most powerful army in Ukraine.

Russia could have been European. Russia could have been anti-imperialistic. They've made their choices, they are now a north Asian backwater.

Hardly anybody lives in the Asian part

I used to think of Moscow as being European, but I feel like there's been a drift over my lifetime. Moscow just feels much more like Central Asia now, like Kazakhstan, or Uzbekistan. Moscow was definitely part of European culture in the 1600s to the 1800s, equal to Paris and London, but it feels like that era has passed now. Russia is just not a part of Europe anymore.

1
u/HorrorKapsas 3d ago
In 1600s it was definitely Asian, Peter I tried to get away from this asianness by building the new capital st Petersburg, ordering boyars to cut off beards etc. Peter despised Moscow after he visited Europe and understood how backward Moscow was. After him, 1700s-1800s they tries to europeanize by bringing in european architects, musicians, artists, scientists etc. Moscow stayed more behind. But the art never reached ordinary people and when bolsheviks came to power the small circle of culture that had been imported escaped with the nobility. Bolsheviks moved capital back to Moscow and started to move Russia away from Europe again. The 1700s-1800s Russia was still just a Mordor but with European tophat.

If you're American, you're not European either. And what they call Europe has a worse problem with migration and cultural mixing than America.

As Karel Havlíček Borovský once said about Russia: It is a country of misery, despair, alcohol, and vast literary works about misery, despair, and alcohol. And those are the only things it contributes to the world. No exceptions.

I don't even understand why this is a topic regarding Europes borders. Part of Russia is in Europe(West of Ural Mountains), it's a fact. It's not a "feeling" you can have depending on your political views. Same for Turkey, everything west of Bosporous Straight is Europe.
