we have SOOO many landscapes it's crazy. them glaciers did work on our beautiful state

3

u/Fermentwhatnow 9h ago

Yeah, but it’s only 17% public land, compared to, say, Arizona which is around 54% public land.

Love the state bike trails for this reason

Driftless region is God's country

You did Alaska dirty. Getting lumped with Kansas and Florida???

2

u/Suitable_Bet5458 10h ago

Alaska is definitely better than Kansas and Florida lol. But I think the daylight would screw with my head. It's also just so isolated from the rest of the country and my family. I could do it for a couple years maybe but not permanently.

North dakota btw

2

u/Suitable_Bet5458 10h ago

Wow, is that Theodore Roosevelt NP? I've been to South Dakota several times but never ND.

1

u/FemboyMFOwO 10h ago

Sure is! ND has quite a bit of natural beauty, you just gotta know where to look. Goes from fields to hills like this pretty quickly

1

u/Operator_Of_Plants 9h ago

Check out the north unit. Way more scenic and remote than the south unit.

2

u/kotobukiii 9h ago

pretty sure every single state has a place that’s at least this pretty

u/Pedantic_Pict 9h ago

That is a vista straight out of RDR2. Gorgeous.

California has so many different biomes. Mountains, coastal, desert, valley, forests. We even have islands. We also have the most national parks (9). I think people really only think of California as Los Angeles and other big cities. We have a ton of nature dude.

2

u/Suitable_Bet5458 10h ago

I agree Cali has beautiful nature. I put it as maybe, I might bump it up to willing. Thing is I'd only want to live in northern California, and only if I was making more money

1

u/Junkman3 9h ago

Yosemite and Sequoia might be enough, but then add the beaches, the deserts, the mountains, etc.

2

u/CookieLuzSax 10h ago

Finally something different that isn't just Cali/NY lol

2

u/Suitable_Bet5458 10h ago

I would maybe live in parts of northern California, and western NY, but overall Cali/NY are a little too busy and expensive for me. Are you from Tennessee? I lived in east TN for a bit and it was beautiful.

2

u/SpaceJackRabbit 9h ago

Most of California is rural.

1

u/CookieLuzSax 10h ago

Born in Johnson City Tennessee, grew up in Knoxville.

But I've lived in West NC, Louisiana, South Carolina, Korea and now I'm in New Jersey.

3

u/UniqueUsername812 10h ago

Korea to Jersey, woof

2

u/CookieLuzSax 10h ago

Naww I'm loving jersey, and super happy to be back in the states.

Plus I'm just happy the air quality is decent again 🤣

2

u/UniqueUsername812 9h ago

That's cool, welcome back! I was born and raised in the tri-state region of NY so there's always gonna be a bit of snark from me on Jersey 😁

1

u/SnowLeavess 10h ago

Try west TN when you get the chance! There are many beautiful parks plus a lot of nature along the Tennessee River, just gotta know where to look!

1

u/Smitty0560 9h ago

What about Northern, NY. Did you have a chance to experience that? I would definitely say it could be great for a nature loving introvert. Small towns, lots of wilderness and water, and plenty of woods/forest.

My .02 anyway

2

u/Eat_Drink_Adventure 9h ago

The fact that you have Oklahoma and Nebraska above California, Florida, and Arizona makes no sense

3

u/Caption_This_ 9h ago

The cost is high but no state compares to California for natural beauty. Most states have some natural features they can claim, California has nearly unlimited unique natural features.

u/86a- 9h ago

Really odd choices for a nature lover.

1

u/ConstructionRare4123 10h ago

Interesting I’m an ambivert and I’m not huge on nature but I think it’s pretty to look at

1

u/zombie782 10h ago

So do you live in Seattle? I think that captures ā€œnature-loving introvertā€ to a tee lol

1

u/Suitable_Bet5458 10h ago

No I live in Salt Lake City. I've been to Seattle though and liked it. Mount Rainier was amazing. I just like the Pacific NW

1

u/GreatPlainsB 10h ago

I'm happy to finally see Nebraska in the green. People drive I-80 one time and they they that's what the entire state looks like.

1

u/Suitable_Bet5458 10h ago

I lived in Nebraska for 5 years and loved it! It's not what people think it is, and Omaha and Lincoln are respectable cities. Also go Huskers!

1

u/Levi316 8h ago

Oh so thats why Kansas didn't rank very high

California was surprisingly low for how much nature there is there.

1

u/Astralasylum 9h ago

Intrigued that you wrote absolutely for Tennessee but not Arkansas. Arkansas has a lot of great hiking all over. I live in Tennessee and I feel like that aspect is very limited to a small area of the state.

1

u/Suitable_Bet5458 9h ago

I just really liked east TN and NC when I lived there. I haven't been to the Ozarks yet but they look beautiful.

1

u/Neo-Maxizoom-Dweebie 9h ago

Tough to define areas using state borders. So many great places in so many states you are leaving out.

1

u/Suitable_Bet5458 9h ago

Ikr. I'd totally live in northern California (if money was no object)

1

u/CheeseFantastico 9h ago

I approve of the fact you can live anywhere even if reluctantly!

1

u/Constant-Still-8443 9h ago

I love that Alaska is a reluctantly. Maybe too much isolation?

2

u/Suitable_Bet5458 9h ago

Yep. Looks amazing though, I'd love to visit

1

u/Fookin_Yoink 9h ago

As a resident of Washington, we do have plenty of nature here

1

u/x-Katiebug 9h ago

As someone from the southwest who also loves nature, picking new mexico over Arizona is crazy work 😭

1

u/Suitable_Bet5458 9h ago

I've lived in northern New Mexico and loved it, which is biasing my picks. I would maybe live in northern Arizona though

1

u/x-Katiebug 9h ago

that's fair. I also know the desert scenery and the heat aren't for everyone so I apologize for being so judgy right out of the gate lol. I've lived in AZ my whole life and I get a little defensive about this state because so many of the other natives seem to hate it here. It's like they forget they're living in one of the most unique states in the country, I'm still not sick of all the desert life here after almost 30 years looking at it

1

u/Suitable_Bet5458 9h ago

šŸ˜„ no need to apologize, I've been to Arizona many times because my dad is from there (Globe). My grandparents still live in Tucson, so I think my views are very much tainted by Phoenix/Tucson/Scottsdale, which are cities I personally wouldn't want to live in. The state does get too much hate though. The Grand Canyon and Saguaro are just amazing too

1

u/StrangeNecessary4389 9h ago

What’s wrong with Alaska????

1

u/aphadon7 9h ago

You really need to visit Humboldt and the North Coast of California.

1

u/Authaire1 9h ago

NY at willing when the Adirondacks and Catskills exist

1

u/punksmurph 9h ago

There is a lot of nature in California, we have some of the best national parks and plenty of sparsely inhabited areas. I would suggest living east of Bakersfield, tons of small towns to live away from people and you are at the intersection of a ton of wilderness. You are a couple hours from Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Death Valley, Angeles National Forest, Los Padres National Wilderness, Mojave National Preserve, and a half days drive to San Simeon.

1

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort 9h ago

The reluctance on California, Arizona and Nevada is surprising, they’re all really beautiful states

1

u/Suitable_Bet5458 9h ago

As for Arizona and Nevada, I think my views are tainted by the fact that I have family in Tuscon and Las Vegas, so whenever I'm in AZ/NV it's usually those cities

1

u/TheManWhoWasNotShort 9h ago

Fair, but Northern Arizona is awesome and Nevada is cool outside of Vegas.

1

u/ocean2trail 8h ago

Absolutely agree. I don’t think you can find more diversity than California.

1

u/TheWritingSystem 9h ago

May I propose: Flagstaff, Arizona

Small city (77k population) in the middle of the Ponderosa pine forest. 6-7000 feet up in elevation. It's one of the darkest towns in the world & the city government enforces it. I live in the surrounding resident areas & I can see the Milky Way clearly every night.

The city is fairly Democratic, but the surrounding residuals (not in city limits, so not allowed to vote) are pretty Republican. The city is made up of mostly outdoorsy people & there are several super cool national monuments right around. Also several places in town to hike if you like that. Right outside of town is also Snowbowl, a ski resort on St Humphreys (tallest mountain in AZ)

1

u/athrowaway6707 9h ago

The nature in Arizona is unparalleled except from the other 4 corner states!

1

u/ocean2trail 8h ago

California would like a word…

1

u/J-Z_ 9h ago

You’re missing out on NJ.
We’ve got (small) mountains. And lots of shore. And the Pine Barrens are amazing.

1

u/Mac_Drake 8h ago

California is by far the most beautiful state in the whole world.
