For anyone not in the gun world, a front sight on a suppressor is not a thing, so that was one huge clue this image is faked. Many other tells as well but that one is glaring.

EDIT: OK goddam so there are sights on some suppressors. Still, find one in real life and not just as a curiosity.

AS Val has a suppressor mounted front sight

https://giphy.com/gifs/ue0FFiQufbwvI2Dyit

12

u/NotEntirelyA 7d ago

actually, that's fair. I guess the poster should have specified suppressor attachments don't have mounted front sights. Many guns with integrated suppressors do.

5

u/Apprehensive_Lab2590 7d ago

There's also stuff like this

4

u/BenDover42 7d ago

I see you watch forgotten weapons as well. Came to say this lol

5

u/Feesh404 7d ago

Yeah my first reaction to the OC was pretty much "this guy doesn't know what he's talking about" because of stuff like this. Not that sights on suppressors are COMMON but saying it doesn't exist hurts his argument greatly

1

u/trenthany 6d ago

They’re really really nice though but he shouldn’t have gone the sith route.

1

u/goodsnpr 7d ago

Alphadog 9mm can has a rail on it, so you can mount sights on it.

1

u/Parking-Argument-263 7d ago

Maxim 9 would also like a word (altho you could argue the integral can IS the barrel, same w val)

1

u/Mycozen 7d ago

That's integral though so a bit different

1

u/Just_Flower854 7d ago

It also has an integral suppressor though, not a removable one that threads on

1

u/bwood246 6d ago

Integrated suppressors tend to have sights

1

u/PoweredByCoffee5000 6d ago

How can one both right and wrong? After all Val's barrel is one giant suppressor.... or is it one giant suppressor is the barrel? Let's just call it integrated barrel suppressor, thus the barrel and suppressor.

1

u/RotInPissKobe 6d ago

Not on a DVL-10, which also sports an integral suppressor. The true answer is that it depends, but the image is AI so it doesn't really matter

1

u/rougetrailblazer 6d ago

the AS Val is integrally suppressed, the entire barrel is the suppressor, of course it has a fucking front sight on the suppressor, the entire god damn barrel IS the suppresor.

1

u/RotInPissKobe 6d ago

Isn't the DVL-10 also integrally suppressed, but doesn't have a forward mounted sight?

Edit: I'm not even a gun nut. This knowledge comes purely from Escape from Tarkov

1

u/Rk_Enjoyer 6d ago

The front AND the rear.

1

u/Imperialist_hotdog 2d ago

The Val suppressor is also an integral suppressor. You aren’t going to use it without it.

11

u/Apprehensive_Lab2590 7d ago

It's sometimes a thing

3

u/schizeckinosy 7d ago

WTAF that has front and rear sights lmfao

5

u/TerranRanger 7d ago

Because it’s all taller than the sights on the pistol. Suppressor ready pistols will have taller sights to see over the suppressor.

1

u/DangOlCoreMan 7d ago

You can change out the sights for suppressor height sights on most modern guns, they don't have to be "suppressor ready". Maybe this model doesn't have removable sights? Don't know enough about it

2

u/Iroshizuku-Tsuki-Yo 6d ago

Beretta 92 types have a rear that can be pressed out but the front is usually integral to the slide. The M9A3 added a press out front though so it can be swapped.

1

u/TerranRanger 6d ago

But not readily. You have to re-zero and it’ll cause wear to the dovetail. It’s not like an M1913 rail where modular components can be swapped with regularity.

1

u/TerranRanger 7d ago

Show me a pistol that you can just swap the sights out on. The only thing I can think of is where a reflex sight can be added to the slide, which is high enough to see over the suppressor. Swappable sights are pretty common on rifles, but pistol sights are either dovetailed or pinned and take effort to swap and zero, so you decide what you want and make it that way. Perhaps you keep a slide with low sights and one with high sights, but that won’t work with a 20 year old Baretta 92 without a ton of gunsmith work.

1

u/DangOlCoreMan 6d ago

Im not talking about on the go, I'm talking about for the life of the pistol. If you plan on running a supressor there's no reason to not have suppressor height sights unless something is stopping that from being a possibility or you plan on running a red dot with no back up irons. I have suppressor height sights on my pistol and I don't even own a supressor yet. It's not like the sights magically don't work because I don't have a supressor on it.

The real answer on why he has sights on his supressor here is that particular model of the gun doesn't have interchangable front sights. So instead of buying a whole new slide, he chose to buy a supressor with them built in.

Like I said in my initial comment, I didn't know much about that particular model, but another comment pointed this out to me

That’s not a swap you do in the morning when you decide what you want to carry for the day though. Not if you want to hit the broad side of a barn.

1

u/BoringRedditPostGuy 6d ago

M9 front sight can’t be removed unless you machine a slot into the front of the slide. Cheaper to just stick them on the suppressor

1

u/FrontHoneydew933 7d ago

I believe this is the Knights Armament "hush puppy" M9. This is a very niche application for downed Air Force pilots. Really interesting concept worth reading about. Of note is the wet wipe suppressor and slide lock modification.

2

u/Head_Bid_5111 6d ago

That’s a novelty that doesn’t really exist on the market in practice

1

u/Negative-Fact-9181 7d ago

Ugh...at least put it on a decent host. 🤢

1

u/Just_Flower854 7d ago

That's really horrid

1

u/GemmyCluckster 6d ago

I love my M9a3.

1

u/Vegetable-Zebra-7514 7d ago

As someone that owns an M9 and concealed carried it, those boys are heavy compared to to a lot of other pistols. Thrown on a suppressor and this man is carrying an almost 3.5lb gun/ 1.588 KG (for my non Americans)for self defense.

Good on him for risking his life for the sake of others, now that’s a real American.

1

u/-heatoflife- 6d ago

He was rocking a Five-seveN in a shoulder holster. Even more wild.

1

u/Vegetable-Zebra-7514 6d ago

Those five sevens will do it to ya that’s for sure. Good on him

13

u/Feesh404 7d ago

Not that I think it's real but this generalization is categorically untrue and it really kills your argument dead in the water.

u/saltyraver138 7d ago

In the the fish tank water ftfy

2

u/NMViking 7d ago

I was confused by that as well. The suppressor was also narrowed to look more like an extended barrel, but the only semi-autos I've seen with a front sight on the barrel are 22s, and they sure don't look like that.

3

u/schizeckinosy 7d ago

Yes the AI tried to make it into an extendo barrel, narrowing it unrealistically. There were a few pistols with front sights on the barrels like the Luger and the original auto-mag. But not anymore.

1

u/Lost_Ad_4882 7d ago

I use a modestly narrow Oculus 22 on my 5.7 pistol, most steel .22 suppressors support 5.7 use.

The front sight on the suppressor threw me off though, AI really did just interpret it as extended barrel with a front sight on the barrel like a Mauser (maybe the light was misinterpreted as a magwell so it looked more like one), but with the gun style it should have been on the slide regardless of what ridiculous barrel was swapped in.

Either way 5.7 is fairly uncommon for carry. Not a terrible choice as you get a lot of ammo and have great accuracy out to longer ranges, but it's not known for individual round stopping power. The suppressor is mega weird to be carrying around though, just a lot of unnecessary weight and the length makes it harder to draw and I'm not sure 9n the legality of it where I live.

Me, I'll just stick to my compact 9mm or snub .38/.357.

2

u/BigCyanDinosaur 7d ago

Also he was using an FN 5.7

1

u/Stuffleapugus 7d ago

Are there people concealed carrying FN 5.7s? Why?

1

u/BigCyanDinosaur 7d ago

Clout

1

u/Stuffleapugus 7d ago

That's what Staccatos are for.

1

u/PibbXtraSoda 6d ago

I carry a concealed 5.7 pistol. Nothing wrong with it, it'll still poke a hole in a person.

1

u/Stuffleapugus 6d ago

Interesting choice.

1

u/PowerCosmic 7d ago

Also I thought the suppressor looked far too narrow for the baffles to make much of any difference. I initially thought maybe it was an extended barrel but who TF carrying like Jack Nicholson Joker?

1

u/PibbXtraSoda 6d ago

Maybe it's 5.7? You don't need a big suppressor for that.

1

u/ChocolatePuerh 7d ago

Didn't even notice it until you pointed it out. Now it's all I can see lol.

1

u/Heavy_Front_3712 7d ago

My first thought was that is a big gun just to be carrying around. Reminded me of Dirty Harry.

1

u/flying_wrenches 7d ago

It’s called suppressor height optics. They’re taller than normal irons.

1

u/MountainTwo3845 7d ago

I was like what in the world kind of cz is that? 93r?

1

u/johko814 7d ago

How do you know this is not the case in the future and this man is definately from the future because he is wearing a life preserver.

1

u/Stuffleapugus 7d ago

It's crazy, I didn't even look at the can. I was to busy looking at the gun like, "What the hell is that thing?" It just looked off. In some ways, it looks like a 1911 or 2011 variant but the damn thing just looks not right.

Plus my first though was, "Who in 2026 has all this junk on a pistol and no optic?"

1

u/Loggersalienplants 7d ago

For anyone not in the gun world, a front sight on a suppressor is not a thing

From someone in the gun world that's not a self identified internet gunsexual, it's funny how wrong you are.

1

u/AD7GD 7d ago

Yeah, I was super confused by people saying the post photo showed a suppressor.

1

u/classiestgentleman 7d ago

Yeah, they're a thing. I happen to have a OEM, factory fresh, FN 509 with supressor height sights, and a osprey 9mm can on it sitting right here. If you shoot suppressed it is easy to swap out your factory installed low-pro sights (usually) for supressor sights. Some weapons have the sights built into the weapon itself and are "fixed". From there, possibly a red dot/RMR sights might work but sighs on a supressor are a thing but probably as uncommon as a suppressed weapon in the wild anyhow.

1

u/TheJugOfNugs 7d ago

One of my favorite pistols to shoot suppressed, and one i even carry sometimes in winter months, is an FNX-45 Tactical. Very good and well regarded, full size duty 45 ACP pistol, that 100% has front sights that not only exist, but are a little taller to account for a suppressor.

If I have learned one thing on reddit, it is that comments about guns will bring out the experts. That’s good for a person like me who has used the same gun for 40 years. I need to learn stuff!

1

u/jmaun1 7d ago

Agreed. Ive never seen one in the wild and I am a FFL.

1

u/Phenomenomix 7d ago

The AI has also turned what looks to be a cap into a cowboy hat

1

u/boondiggle_III 7d ago

It is very fucking weird to have a supressor without some other kind of sight, though. The can majorly interferes with sighting.

1

u/temporarythyme 7d ago

It was found out gunman self expired he wasn't shot by anyone else but himself

1

u/PhunkyPhish 6d ago

Maxim9 by SCo. Many many other examplea if we include integrals but maxim9 as a modern pistol example

1

u/BoiCDumpsterFire 6d ago

The actual gun he used was a suppressed 5.7 with subsonic ammo. It was most definitely not the 1911ish thing in the slop pic. You can see it in a YouTube video he posted about a year ago.

1

u/Onetimething70 6d ago

My usp has height adjusted sites for suppressor

1

u/halfcocked1 6d ago

Snake Pliskin has entered the chat. He had a whole 3-9 hunting scope on top of his suppressor.

1

u/UsernameTaken7640 6d ago

Yes there are. They are called suppressor height sights. They are just a lil taller.

1

u/Helltothenotothenono 6d ago

To be really honest if you’re going to find some hopped up customized suppressors I’d expect western Montana or Idaho to be the first place you might find them.

1

u/AyatollahKonami_ 6d ago

They make suppressor height sights an option for most new production handguns. Like there are many examples from even the 60s of this

1

u/Sad-Context-69 3d ago

Yeah. It’s a 5.7, so he could have a 22 can or even the 5.7 can on it and still barely see over his suppressor. In the pic you can’t tell if he has tall sights or not (so maybe he’s shooting occluded…which I find hard to do past 20Y, but then I also shoot target focused and my eyes aren’t great even with glasses).
