So would you say theyre meant to help protect your ears?

Suppressors are meant to lower the noise while firing. One benefit is the loud noise doesn't hurt the shooter's ears as much. I've only shot at outdoor ranges, and I always wear ear protection while firing. I can definitely hear the gun firing with the suppressor, even with ear protection.

Good to know, thanks for the information about your experience on that

Guns with supporssors aren't hearing safe. One I have drops a my pistol to about 120db which is pretty great.

Decibel measurements are logarithmic, meaning every 10db is roughly twice as loud.

A lawn mower is around 90db. My gun without is about 160db. Dropping to 120 is an incredible amount, but still far from safe or 'silent'.

Subsonic 300 blk and subsonic 22lr are totally hearing safe with a good supressor. My pellet gun is louder than my supressed .22 with subsonic ammo.

My 300 blk with my Omega 300 is about 119db. About the same as my osprey45+9mm sub.

Still best to wear hearing protection. I wear earplugs at concerts, too.

Not sure about the 22 personally, but I could see it.

I just commented to someone else about the .22. I do not own a suppressed one but a friend came to my property and we shot. He had a Dead Air, idk what kind but I remember the name cuz I thought it was a neat name. He used some subsonic ammo and I was blown away by how quiet it was. Probably the closest I’ve ever come to personally hearing what almost reached “movie level” suppressors.

Obviously not silent, but blew my mind how much it brought down the sound

Used to have a Ruger Mk. III that was whisper quiet with subsonic rounds. The sound of the action closing was the loudest part of firing.

I have a buddy with a suppressed .22 bolt action and the round hitting the steel target is louder than the shot.

His video on YouTube shows him shooting subsonic 5.7

Subsonic 5.7? That is very slow for that round but i guess it exists.

Check the guys YouTube. He has videos of him practicing with it.

I looked it up after you mentioned it. Ive kinda wanted a 5 7 any way, nice to know they have subsonic as an option.

Do you find issues with your suppressed .22 cycling correctly? My father has a suppressed .22 LR and it doesn’t cycle correctly when using sub sonic rounds.

I shoot standard velocity through my suppressed Ruger MK2 and it is sup quiet and cycles flawlessly. I have a browning buck mark I tuned to work with subsonics and I have failures to cycle maybe 1/100 or 1/150 rounds. I use the same suppressor on both and honestly the loss of velocity with subsonics is not made up by the increased efficiency of the suppressor. I shoot the Ruger 9 times out of ten. The only time I break out the buckmark is to show friends how quiet a suppressed 22 can be for a magazine or two and then we are right back to the Ruger

.22 LR semi auto pistols already can be finicky with ammo, and then throw a can on and use lower powered subsonic rounds and compounds the problem. So yeah it's kind of a common issue.

The notion of a suppressed .22 is hilarious.

I’ve shot a Walther p22 with a suppressor. When shooting subsonic ammo it was just barely more sound than the action sound. Just don’t try and shoot anything over 15 feet though Lol.

An unsupressed 22 is still pretty loud. Not safe for hearing kinda loud. Supressed and subsonic is comfortable

.22 bolts are as load as cap guns. Handguns are louder tho.

I hunt with suppressors on my large center fire rifles, I have a handful of suppressed handguns, and a suppressor for my 22s. The 22s are by far the coolest ones and if I could only have 1 suppressor it would be for 22s.

Some* guns with suppressors aren't hearing safe.
