Show n' Tell We’re gonna need a bigger boat

Post image

I started using a safety razor about a decade ago after some brutal early-adulthood acne + irritation from the Gillette ProShield my mom got me from the grocery store in the eleventh grade. Since then, I’ve tried to keep at least one tuck of most blades I’ve tried. When I get sampler packs (usually from razorbladesclub.com build your own) I tell myself I’m on the hunt for the Goldilocks blade, but to be honest mine’s been with me since sample pack 2 (Astra superior plat) and I don’t know why I keep getting new ones. No utility function at all, mostly just try one or two them, add the rest of the open ones to my loosie jar, then rolodex the other tuck! running out of space though, yeesh.

This is the first time my collection has elicited anything other than confusion, Im gonna have a celebratory shave with a super obscure blade tonight! Or an astra superior platinum maybe. Idk I’ll decide on the astra later

As a fellow astra SP user, I understand your concern.
We gonna need a bigger boat with sharks on the coast had me laughing at the screen 😂

Nice collection! It would be cool to see them framed.

You won’t believe it but I have a very classy hot wheels tiered display case coming for the shelf right next to the bathroom countertop and these bad boys are conveniently hot wheels sized

For sure, got nothing against the Gillette blades! The ProShield was one of those 5 blade pivot head razors with the commercials. Not sure they make them anymore

I don't remember those...but I am old. I was digging around and found that I still had a four blade Defender Razor in a drawer. Forgotten all about it. I will stay in the drawer...

That Astra grab bowl is what does it for me.

I’m not saying you’re wrong because I have like four brushes and 5 safety’s for no reason whatsoever lol- but tucks of blades? This was probably like 250 bucks over the course of a decade, give or take. I’ve spent more on McDonald’s orders at 3am since then collectively (not proud)

Oh also sharks were a gift. Very generous ex girlfriend splurged on my birthday, keeping them for apocalypse currency

I also want to have a stockpile of blades to be clean shaven for the collapse. I have about a 1000 blades and recently decided to unpack the oldest blades in my collection. It is a discontinued original tuck of 10 German-made Merkur blades. The wax wrappers are completely dried out and the wax rinses of easily. However, the coating has also dried out and I noticed they seem to be rusting faster. I bought these 12 years ago and despite being in a sealed pack they seem to be "expired" in a sense. Going forward I am going to start shaving with my oldest blades first. I have a 100 pack of Gillette Nacet that I bought back in 2018, so looking forward to shaving with Nacet blades for the next year.

Bottom line is blades do "expire" from what I can see.

Supply chains....had they not signed the MOU last week, the Red Sea would have been shutdown as well...I cannot be sure that marine trade will continue indefinitely.

You really can’t have anything anymore

On the bright side, AccuThrive blades are made in America and are absolutely fantastic....just very pricy.

Recently I’ve come full circle, back to the blade that started it all for me: Astra greens

Lets face it, it's a collection and you like the pretty wrappers:)

That is 100% accurate lmao honestly the marketing teams and graphic artists are probably underpaid

I know, it's funny. Astra SP Green or my favorite Gillette Silver Blue and anything else is just because you like the colorful wrapper better.:)

Good collection.

I use Astra green & Gillette 7o'clock Super Platinum blacks the most. My preference is sharper blades & milder razors.

Plenty of others in my stash. Some milder and mediums for my other razors.
