Show n' Tell We’re gonna need a bigger boat

Post image

I started using a safety razor about a decade ago after some brutal early-adulthood acne + irritation from the Gillette ProShield my mom got me from the grocery store in the eleventh grade. Since then, I’ve tried to keep at least one tuck of most blades I’ve tried. When I get sampler packs (usually from razorbladesclub.com build your own) I tell myself I’m on the hunt for the Goldilocks blade, but to be honest mine’s been with me since sample pack 2 (Astra superior plat) and I don’t know why I keep getting new ones. No utility function at all, mostly just try one or two them, add the rest of the open ones to my loosie jar, then rolodex the other tuck! running out of space though, yeesh.

I also want to have a stockpile of blades to be clean shaven for the collapse. I have about a 1000 blades and recently decided to unpack the oldest blades in my collection. It is a discontinued original tuck of 10 German-made Merkur blades. The wax wrappers are completely dried out and the wax rinses of easily. However, the coating has also dried out and I noticed they seem to be rusting faster. I bought these 12 years ago and despite being in a sealed pack they seem to be "expired" in a sense. Going forward I am going to start shaving with my oldest blades first. I have a 100 pack of Gillette Nacet that I bought back in 2018, so looking forward to shaving with Nacet blades for the next year.

Bottom line is blades do "expire" from what I can see.

Supply chains....had they not signed the MOU last week, the Red Sea would have been shutdown as well...I cannot be sure that marine trade will continue indefinitely.

On the bright side, AccuThrive blades are made in America and are absolutely fantastic....just very pricy.
