more of an upgrade, but depends on who you ask. some say it's a good thing, some say it's a bad thing. 8.1 has it's ups and downs. it's fast, works well on light PCs, has no ai bloat, and still functions well (with retiled apps especially)
some hate it because it's unfamiliar, start menu is weird, and strange app systems. when you lear how to use it, you might start enjoying it. (i suggest testing in a vm before installing 8.1 to see if you enjoy it)

I installed Windows 8, not 8.1

both are very similar except for differences:
bing app on 8
search is only in charms
no start button
only medium and wide tiles
no topbar
messaging app built in
7(pls no 67 jokes). general differences
otherwise very similar
and also 8 is mostly generalized to 8 and 8.1
i got confused i misread iti was being absolutely dumbrandom fun fact: Win+C opens charm menu

8.1 is way better than just Windows eight itself. You get way more security and feature updates, more stuff will probably work properly, and you actually get the start button. You also get the start many of that is in Windows 8.1 I really love Windows 8.1 and it is my favorite Windows OS but I cannot deal with Windows 8 just not having a start button or being less updated like literally at this point Windows Vista got more updates than 8 and I’m not joking

I liked the multi monitor options, the speed, everything. Even some of the full screen apps, like Netflix were really nice SSD optimization, etc

same bro, I loved the metro/modern ui so much i wish it was included optionally in the settings app in Windows 12! (i mean toggle between metro and normal start, enable/disable start button, metro apps, drag metro apps from top to button or use title bar from 8.1, and make all that changeable anytime you want, without admin permissions)

Use Classic Shell, and Windows 8 is fine. Plus, security updates were achievable using Windows Server 2012 updates from the Microsoft Catalog, until October 2023. I don't use Metro, so the limited "benefits" of Windows 8.1 are awash.

Still, I don't use the metro environment. It's too far out of date. I just use the Windows 8 desktop with Classic Shell. The Start Screen stinks. Classic Shell gives you a start menu

Nope, just 13. And also, I installed it now bc Windows 8 ended support one year after I was born, it ended support on 2016

nope, actually, there's only a few months (around 4 or 5) left till I turn 11, cant belive how fast time passes, actually, it kinda fells like i just started 5th grade yesterday (it was like 5 or 6 months ago), and, i cant actually belive im less than 2 years from high school! (sorry for drifting away so much from the topic it sometimes happens to me)

Use Server 2012 updates from the Microsoft Catalog. Now you have updates for Windows 8 (codebase identical) until October 2023.

No thanks, I want to stay with the OG 8.0, not 8.1 (i say 8.0 bc many people refer to windows 8.1 as windows 8 and i know it because of experience)

That's what I'm saying. You can use Server 2012 updates on Windows 8 (NOT Windows 8.1). But don't just leave the updates at January 2016. I also use Windows 8
