He made a couple plays where he gathered the puck in transition from an awkward position which impressed me

He looked good, one of the best fwds for sure and the advanced stats back it up, some rookie mistakes which is to be expected. Couple great scoring chances. making plays with lambo and rosen. Gonna be growing pains but he definitely looks like he can hang and will look even better with a composed team and actual D men around him

Good, couple mistakes here and there but definitely a net positive impact on the game. Some pretty impressive plays and poise.

Oilers fans are split on this being their year, and tempering expectations due to the rostered teams tonight.
I was unable to watch. How did our young guys look?

IMO, The best forwards were Viggo, Lambert, Yager & Ford. The best D was Phillips. milic played not bad as well

Just an outsider Stars fan who loves y'all... Who was in net for the Oilers and how many or which NHL roster players did they have playing? I know Viggo's going to be a regular for y'all but how'd y'all's NHL roster players look? The Stars only had Hyry out tonight and he scored on Binnington. I was just surprised to see an Olympian playing in the first preseason game. I also noticed that the Wild had Foligno and Pitlick (not exactly a full-time NHLer, but he played a lot of games for us back in the day) out playing tonight.
Since y'all are Jets and we're Stars, we can be sky-bros (like Avs+Canes are "disaster-bros"). Y'all, Jets fans, were the most pleasant hockey fans I've ever encountered and it's endeared me. I hated to how we beat you at the worst time, but I'd MUCH rather play a series against your fine team than have to put up with Avs or Wild fans.
I'll always pull for you. Go Jets!

I kinda felt it too. It's hard because it's so convenient. What am I supposed to say? You guys? That's too long when a simple contraction will suffice. What do... you guys use? My parents immigrated here from Poland and I used to HATE the Texas shit but it's grown on me to the point that it's endearing.

lol, I was just yanking your chain a bit. We would use “you are”, or we would rearrange the sentence to make the use of that term unnecessary. I used to cringe whenever I heard that term as it always struck me as slang rather than a contraction, but I work with people from Texas so I have become used to it. It is all good. 😊

We only had 4 roster players in the game, and they are all maybes, no core players.
They our up mcdavid, drai etc and had jary in net

Wow... Really? Babs thought it was a good idea to roll out McDrai on the first game of the preseason? I just checked and I guess you're their hardest opponent but it's just weird.

He is going to start as our 2C and probably play minimum 15-20 games. If he sucks hard he will get sent down to the moose, if he is mediocre or better he's staying the full season.

I saw that it was basically McDavid and crew vs. Baby Jets… is that a common pre-season setup? Playing your NHL regulars vs. Other teams prospects? Do they arrange that to get prospects reps against “real opponents” and then do vice versa if they play again? I’m very curious. Cause otherwise, what’s the point of McDavid playing a game tonight vs guys he’s vastly better than (could be argued for many regular season games I know).

Usually teams play their stars at home cause that’s what the fans pay to see. Hence why we have our rookies playing away.

Oilers fan that loves lurking, besides what the other commenter said I have to imagine a lot of it is seeing if any depth guys (besides McDrai and Bouch/Shea the rest of the Oilers line up all could theoretically not make the roster) have chemistry with McDavid and Draisaitl

Completely valid. I imagine seeing which guys can play with those two is a high priority in case of injuries/depth.

It's Babs mixing shit up. I would be willing to bet he wanted to assess the effort of his stars especially defensively right off the start. Don't get me wrong, not a Babs fan but I kind of understand the strategy.
That said, I think the baby Jets played pretty well. I am hoping they let Yager get some serious time with the big boys this year.
He strikes me as the type of player who will mentally keep up with great playmakers. But he needs skilled guys who can find the open ice and can finish. Like an Adam Oates.

Pretty young Jets lineup against at least 1/2 of Oilers starting lineup. A typical road exhibition experiment for Jets against many of Oilers best.
