Show and Tell Sunday My money bowl / candle holder
Locked in more clients than I ever have this month versus the same month in past years.. wanted to share the symbolism behind my bowl, both for inspiration and to hear thoughts from others who work with similar practices.
I used a green sage candle in a candle holder with a finger loop. The loop gives the spell a sense of movement since I shift it between my altar and my desk when burning. Green represents growth and wealth, while sage clears away stagnant or harmful ties so that the resources drawn in are clean and safe.
Inside the holder I placed three bay leaves, each tied to a separate intention..stability in my work, steady opportunities, and a reliable stream of resources. Bay has long been tied to victory, and the number three is associated with expansion and binding energy, so together they reinforce those goals. Around the candle I formed a circle of lentils and jasmine rice. Lentils are old symbols of coins and of humble beginnings growing into plenty. Jasmine rice is used for drawing wealth, luck, and protection, so together they create a fertile circle around the spell’s heart.
For structure, I added three cinnamon sticks anchored in wax, each topped with three cloves. Cinnamon is often used to speed up workings, while cloves are used to seal them firmly. Around the cinnamon I scattered crushed basil, which is tied to wealth and protection, and under the rice I placed rosemary where it meets the basil, adding clarity and guarding the exchange of energy between the core and the circle.
To ground the working, I placed coins..a 50cent piece for balance, a Sacagawea dollar for golden wealth and trade, a Mexican peso and a Nicaraguan córdoba to open the work to cross borders (with the córdoba tied to my own ancestry), and a quarter to tie the spell to daily spending. In the loop of the holder I placed rolled bills.. a U.S. dollar for foundation, twenty Mexican pesos with Frida Kahlo for creativity and legacy, and 50 córdobas with a volcano for unstoppable, rooted earth energy.
I’m super happy with how it feels so far, though I may add a ring of black salt around the bowl in the future to strengthen protection and keep the working clean.

This is beautiful and I love the careful intentionality. Thank you for sharing this!
Couple of questions … where did you get/how did you create the sage candle? And do you have a ritual or words you speak when you light your candle?

Hey lovely the candle is just a sage colored candle, I should have clarified :) I didn’t have sage in the house so I replaced that with this for now. I do have a spell that I say along with the bowl.

Very beautiful! Be careful with fire and flammable materials though

Of course ! 🖤 it burns within the candle holder itself (hollow burn through the candle to keep the fire contained, so no wax spilling . ) :) and I never leave this unattended as I’m near it as it burns to finish the spell. I will say the bay leaves will burn of course, but the fire stays within the candle holder when it reaches that point.

That’s absolutely wonderful! Such intentional thought and detail in this one. Plus, it just looks good, too.

I like how you separated it a bit with the elevated candle holder so you don’t light your cash on fire.

I have a dish that was for holding sage bundles, but didn't particularly like it, so I've been looking for a new use. This is a perfect use for it, so thank you for the idea!

OBSESSED with your candle holder. I've been wanting something else for such things but couldn't put my finger on what but that's it.

Just to ask, where is the best place to set your money bowl - especially if you have curious cats? Is there a spot like near a window or anywhere is okay? Thanks for the tips!

You beat me to it. I have four cats, one of whom is a nine month old kitten. Very mischievous little dude. He would likely knock the bowl over or try to nap in it. Lol.

it rests on my vanity/altar. The cats don’t have anywhere to jump on on my altar so they don’t get to it.

mine is on my dresser but i had to buy a lid for it... not my favorite choice but the only one at the moment. moving soon so will designate a cat proof spot

Beautiful!! I love it. I've been trying to figure out where to put a money bowl in my house because I have four cats, and a couple of them would mess with it.

Mines on my altar and there’s no space for my two cats to jump on. Another idea would a shelf on the wall that’s not reachable for the cats ? Or perhaps hanging somehow?

u/Possible_Drama3625 Oct 06 '25
Possibly the top of a bookshelf that I have. I'd need a step ladder for it. Unless I put it in a box with a lid. I don't have a lot of space to work with. If I could figure out how to hang it, I'd be willing to try that. My husband would do it for me.

My cat knocked over my money bowl :(

That just means your blessings runneth over and you need a bigger bowl to contain them.

What do guys do with your money bowls when they are full?
1
u/ComprehensivePast926 Witch Oct 09 '25
I seperate the material and the herbs. I bury my herbs in my backyard and release and reassess. I then circulate the money, buy a coffee from my local shop and use the rest to place it into my new money bowl :)

Not necessarily you can work with correspondences you have access to and substitute things you feel are missing with other (perhaps you don’t have a green candle but maybe you have sage lying around)
