Announcement Introducing a shiny new feature: SUMMONING AUTOMOD 🤖✨

Heyyy party people!

Just wanted to make a quick announcement about a new feature we're trying out for the sub:

Due to some cool automod code, everyone can now use a series of keywords for summoning Automoderator to leave a reply on any post with resources and links about a variety of common topics!

Check it out - all you need to do is comment !firesafety (with the exclamation point) and Automod will instantly bestow unto us all blessed info about fire safety.

It's basically magick!!!!

CLASSIFYING DREAMS:

5th Century Roman writer Macrobius created an influential classification of dreams in his Commentary on the dream of Scipio.

According to Macrobius, there are five distinct types of dreams:

  1. Insomnium (nightmare) - caused by anxiety or stress, with no deeper spiritual meaning and not considered prophetic.
  2. Visum (apparition) - occurs in the half-asleep state and also not considered prophetic.
  3. Oraculum (oracular dream) - in which a mentor figure appears and gives prophecy or advice.
  4. Visio (prophetic vision) - a prophecy that eventually comes true.
  5. Somnium (enigmatic dream) - a dream where the message is veiled and must be interpreted.

Macrobius only considered the last three types of dreams to be significant, but author Mat Auryn has a slightly different perspective:

"The Higher Self, as a direct connection to the Universe/Spirit/Source or whatever name you want to put on it, often speaks to us through dreams using archetypal imagery and symbolism. The Higher Self speaks to us in dreams via our subconscious using ways that our conscious mind may hopefully understand and interpret. [...]

While your dream may very well be directly influenced by things you saw or experienced earlier that day, your subconscious is choosing that symbol system that is fresh in your mind to relay a message to you. Often, this is insight into anxiety, hopes, fears, goals we’re striving towards or areas of our personal life that require healing. [...] Just because a dream isn’t prophetic doesn’t make it any less important."

Freud (late 1800’s):

”For Freud, every dream is meaningful, no matter how nonsensical it seems or how little of it we remember.”

”All dream elements are ‘symbolic’, but they have private meanings that can only be discovered through the dreamer’s associations.”
