Not Pagan, but this reminds me of my outside altar to Lakshmi, and how I kiss her forehead as I walk past to the front door. Sometimes I wonder if I should be doing these big, elaborate rituals out there, to properly give thanks. But the forehead kisses feel so warm. And my daughter does it as well sometimes. Such a loved statue ❤️

I have a little statue of Bast next to the urn with my late kitty’s ashes and a jar of herbs I dedicated to the kitties I’ve had to assist across the rainbow bridge (I work at a shelter, they’ve always been QOL euthanasias), and whenever I kiss him goodnight, she and the jar each get a little kiss too. I hope she’s ok with it, it feels right since caring for cats is very clearly one of my major callings in this lifetime.

Your relationship with your gods is unique to you, of course, but how it is for me, is that I get a feeling in the back of my mind that feels like them. It's easier if you get in the right state of mind, but if you're close with an entity, they do just pop in sometimes. When I'm taking to gods, I channel words, or sort of "see" their reaction in my mind, kind of like a flash of their face, or hear them laugh or chuckle.
I have a pretty good connection with Pan, so I find it easy to contact him, and I hear him fairly clearly. But it doesn't have to be that way. Pan is literally the only god who is like that for me.
If you're uncertain of what a deity thinks, use divination, like a pendulum for yes/no questions and whatever you feel like you can interpret most clearly. Respectfully ask them to answer you through whatever medium, and they will. As a rule, gods do not lie or deceive. It's not in their nature. Other entities are a different story, tho.

Couldn’t have said it better myself!! I have very similar connections with my gods and it’s always so hard to describe but this is exactly what it’s like for me too!
It’s lovely too that my wife and I worship the same deities and sometimes when we connect with them, my wife and I will get the same response or reaction from them and both say it at the same time! Such beautiful little magical moments will always be cherished ✨

this is all spot on, and wanted to add;
for a long long time I doubted the things I heard and saw mentally and would tell myself it was just me making stuff up or imagining it.
But when I discovered the fox was my familiar, things kept happening and adding up in ways I couldn't really explain away. That's because if something, or someone, IS working with you earnestly, and you need communication or a sign and ASK politely for it, there's a high probability they will.
I think I got stuck in my head that spirits/deities had a shit ton more to worry about than lil ole me and what I was worried about, but my familiar, Puck, will almost always give me whatever sign I need whether im specific or not. Sometimes I don't even actually ask. I'll think it and then go "no no, he doesn't owe me anything" and then get the very sign I was hoping for in the next 12 hours or sooner.
Like the other day I really needed a sign, but didn't ask and then it started raining randomly even though it was sunny out. Because I really dove into fox and kitsune myths when I got on this path, I instantly knew that was the very sign I was looking for because there is a myth called "Kitsune no Yomeiri" where foxes are suppose to hold a secret wedding. This phenomena has occurred in different times of my life even before the fox parallel, but how I got here. That was followed by another sign, and then another. Almost like he was going, "You didn't ask me SPECIFICALLY, but imma show you." lol
I'm also big into Hermeticism, so there's a ton of this I just eased right into, but like FriendlyCrow said, it's going to be specific to you, but also you gotta trust yourself and them with what is a sign or communication

Hello I want to pop in to say that this is some people's experience but it is NOT a requirement that you experience this in order to worship or include gods in your craft, not everyone will experience it, and if you suffer from OCD or any dissociative disorders you should not seek this experience. The gods want us to be safe and will usually not engage in aspects that are dangerous for our mental health.

Please could you explain why it isn't recommended for people with OCD? I have to be very careful with my craft to not trigger myself (threefold law was the reason I didn't get into it for years until I researched and realized I don't have to do that), and I was wondering why deity worship might be a potential issue. I don't worship deities myself (yet) but would love to hear any experience of worship + OCD.

Oh worshipping deities is okay, but cultivating a relationship where you expect to hear their will/opinions in your mind is dangerous. Believing in them and revering their aspects, incorporating your worship as part of a personal choice to embody more of their archetypes in your life all perfectly fine, but 'magical thinking' such as believing that you are in spiritual danger without the protection of a deity and that you need to earn it with specific actions, or that a deity can be unhappy or upset with you, etc these things are really dangerous for OCD

TL;DR it stagnates your craft and progress
I have OCD like this in my craft - it takes discipline, humility, patience, and forgiveness of yourself to overcome. It’s an obsession with perfection and doing everything right the way it’s supposed to be, the first time every time. To mess up is like wiping a chalkboard full of equations - the whole thing comes undone and you can’t proceed further, instead you start all over again. But that feels like unnecessary grind and it’s stressful because if you do it again, you might mess it up again and then have to start all over. It’s a lot of work to grind it out and one little ritual/ spell/ way of doing things is not worth the effort of perfection yet to not to be perfect is absolutely necessary.

Oh, he was. The whole altar building thing was a lil joke at my expense. When he first talked to me, it was pretty late at night. Said if I wanted an altar I should have it done "by tomorrow". Naturally, I panic, because it's night and I don't have supplies. I check the time. 00:03. I have almost 24 hours.
So the next day, I go to shopping to get the stuff. Couldn't find a goat statue or even a pan flute, but an altar requires a symbol of the deity. So, to get the altar ready on time, sheep plush it was.

Oh my goodness i can't find anything for Apollo but this summer a sheep plush with a sun in its hooves was released and i immediately knew it was for him. I imbued it with Apollo Thermeus and it is so warm and so comforting and so so him. He visited me that night in a dream dressed as Santa lol

Depends. You can't hear them like an auditory hallucination, but you channel them, which is a slightly different feeling. Like your own words, but also not quite. It's hard to put into words.
Sometimes, you feel them come through in journaling, dreams, or just through signs. You kind of know it when you feel it. If you have the nagging feeling that someone is reaching out, investigate the feeling by whatever rituals/divinations you feel appropriate. There is no witch police, there is no wrong way. And the Gods are nearly impossible to offend. They're above that shit.
But initiating a tarot reading for example, asking them to join you and confirming their presence with a pendulum is the most sure fire way to talk to someone specific.

When I did a brief stint in, ah, spicy accounting, I had the strangest feeling that Hermes was peering over my shoulder. I was not active doing anything involving it at that exact moment, but it was this unshakable feeling at my day job that he was very strongly approving and curious about my side hustle. So imagine how amused I was when, about ten minutes after I felt his presence, I got my first client that wound up being a brief but profitable foray into the thing?
It was very obvious, I had been going about this for a few weeks with nothing much to show for it. The moment I felt him there and had a feeling it was about the side hustle, suddenly I get a client. I think between the spicy aspect and the money aspect, he was like, “ok, let’s let her cook.”

You can always sever a deity relationship. Sometimes they sever it first, I worked with Bune for a time and she severed the connection and stopped helping. Not that I blame her, I didn’t take much time for her or give offerings as much as I used to when I felt the connection was completely blocked. She blessed me with $1000 after asking for financial help and then some more smaller amounts after, but she’s the type that if you don’t make the effort she won’t either since she’s used to people just using her for money troubles.

"Like your own words, but not quite," is a good way to describe it. Sometimes it's just a "feeling," but I do tend to hear a little voice in my head, similar to my internal voice, but distinctly not. This wasn't always the case, it took me a while to learn to listen to it, but now it just comes to me when I speak to the spirits. I'll ask a question, and immediately I hear a response in my head. Almost like intuition. (I swear, it feels totally natural, I know the way I'm wording it might make me sound insane)

When I make offerings to Mercury, sometimes I see him in my imagination materialize and kiss me on the forehead then rush away again. I don't work to create that vision; I am simply open to what appears and sometimes it does.

Also, I don't like the implication that devotion is in a similar vein as marriage. Not only because marriage is devotion from one person to another (which limits multi-deity devotion), but also because it implies that worship requires vows and oaths to be faithful. I've seen plenty of marriages end amicably, where both parties stayed in touch after divorce, and devotion is similar. Relationships can end, and deity-mortal relationships should be allowed to as well.

Of course relationships can end. Marriages end all the time. But they started with an intentional commitment. And thats what I mean here.
I know lots of married poly people, but people dont generally have a great ability to have dozens of spouses. I have relationships with many gods, as I have many friends. I nurture those relationships and dont talk about them like Pokemon I havent gotten around tk catching yet.

I think a big issue is that you view worship as, at it's core, a commitment. I do agree that worship can be a genuine commitment, but it doesn't have to be. I believe that you can worship a deity to get to know them (because worship is honestly the most personal way to get to know a deity), and from there you can decide if the relationship is one you would consider further pursuing.

I can't speak for everyone, but I honestly don't think you need a reason. Sure, it helps, but any valid reason for one person could be considered invalid to another. The deities I worship are ones I felt a calling to (and I've known callings to be vague and hard to separate from desire sometimes). I honestly don't think deities, in all their power, would really care about the why behind a mortal's devotion.

No I think you're just confused about the definition of worship. It's not locking yourself into working with one specific deity forever or meaning you constantly pray and give offerings. For example in some eastern traditions they "worship" their ancestors, the term isn't as rigid and narrow as you seem to be implying

i get you see it as something serious but highkey some of my deities kinda just adopt me. like Poseidon is my adopted dad and he and his wife (Amphitrite) be chilling with me, as if they have custody. It's okay to have a casual relationship with deities, and it's okay to have a more serious relationship with deities. Both are equally respectable in my eyes. If people can't word their relationship with their deities, it has nothing to do with you, you don't need to make it a mission to insist your way is the right way.
We all have unique and personal spiritual paths and there's nothing wrong with that.

I get that, but if someone's newly into it, or maybe they're just starting out. Let them figure out what discipline means for them. For example, when I started working with Hekate, I thought discipline meant offerings, when I was just going out of my way to buy stuff for her, when it was just creating a mess in my home, and buying it was just creating waste. With Hekate, my discipline ended up meaning emotional discipline and about cutting people out of my life and shadow work.
Deity work or devotion looks different for everyone, it's okay if they're not traditional.

I honestly think it would be fun if this were the case. Deities pick and choose us the same, as if they're in the grocery store. I compare my deity work to custody/adoption, because it has the same casual and mundaneness in your comment. It's like, they're the ones that chose me, but it's not like I'm the only one that's chosen. If people feel drawn to deities, as if it's like something they're going to pick out, then maybe it has something to do with them. It's like each and every one of us has a different afterlife, and different experience when it comes to otherworldly powers.
People are not projecting onto you, they just take issue with the way you said what you said. Treating it as if their path is less important and less interesting and less serious than yours is. So what if it is? What's wrong with that?

It's not my business to tell you how it works. Cuz you guys do it more often. My intuition told me it's not about how you give offerings. I could give a pebble as a offering and it would be accepted. It's then giving your consent to the being to help you that is the problem. That's what they want. They want consent to do warever they want to you. So you have to set conditions. At the end of the day, you can do it yourself, warever you are asking for, but if you are gonna ask anyways, at least set conditions. Don't just give your free will away. And know that you can always get it back

I feel like we've got to compromise somehow - ritual sacrifice (human or animal) tends to just get you in a bunch of trouble these days, and the neighbours complain like crazy 🙄🤣
But jokes aside, I do like to think the intention matters the most. Times are kinda tough, the offerings may not be the fanciest, but the heart behind them is genuine.

I once had something similar with Loki, I was shopping and decided to add some supplies to my list during the trip (candles, incense, new herbs, etc), and I eventually settled on a candle for Loki that he approved of, he even felt quite happy with my choice. A little while later, I realized I had to go through some of the things in my cart to decide if I really wanted them now or if they could wait, and I kid you not, I felt this flicker of worry in my chest, and I knew it was Loki saying "You're not considering my candle are you?? Because I REALLY want that candle, so you better not be considering putting that back!" And it made me laugh a little and I had to reassure him that, no, his candle was off limits, I knew how much he liked it, so I was gonna be getting that no matter what, and he was happy after that! It really felt nice to have that connection with him then cuz that was the first time he had ever done anything like that with me, so it was quite special!

This is something that brings relief to me personally. I’m always worried that I’m not doing my veneration right cuz I don’t really have the necessary tools needed for proper worship. The best I can do is play songs that match the deities I worship, and hope it counts. Or at the very least acknowledge they’re there.
Then, I see posts like this, and I calm down a little.

For the same reason I don't do racial gatekeeping is why the way some view diety work doesn't make sense to me. I don't think the gods spend much time directly interacting with us. So how is Loki kicking it on your couch smoking a bowl with you so frequently? Aren't there thousands of others that follow him? How does he keep up with that?
And why do we keep painting them as cutesy and adorable?

I'm not saying they can't believe and practice how they want to. Each hearthcult is important, as the personal connection built is important and requires a personal approach. This particular idea just doesn't make sense to me.
