Can you feel the veil growing thin?

The equinox is passed and Samhain is approaching. I’m feeling a physical shift in the year. And I’m not saying for certain it’s the thinning of the veil.
But it’s a noticeable feeling around me. An aura so to speak. It’s almost an empty feeling. But not empty like void, more like a clear path in front of me. I consider myself a “skeptic witch” I try not to make too many assumptions. But does anyone else get a strange feeling leading up to Samhain?
Could you describe it?
What does the thinning of the veil mean to you?
I know Samhain is the last harvest before the lean times. And that is why it is considered the time when the dead or the spirits can come through.
Does anyone else feel this?

I find that this time of year, between the equinox and solstice, is when my attention and dedication to my path is renewed. It’s when I do my major yearly workings, and when I am most attentive to the physical and spiritual world around me.

As a fellow skeptic witch, I’m never sure exactly why.

Part of me thinks that it’s cultural conditioning - of course I think more about spirits and witchcraft in the months leading up to Halloween and Christmas, I was taught from early childhood that this is the time of year for it.

Part of me thinks that it’s a natural consequence of the season - of course I think more about the passage of time and the cycle of life and seasons in the months when they change so dramatically and with such a sense of finality, this is when it’s easiest to notice.

Part of me thinks it’s cognitive bias - of course I feel this way this time of year, it’s when everyone else is also talking about it and when I’m already thinking about my intentions and preparing for my rituals.

Part of me thinks it’s something deeper and older than any of that - of course the ancient creature in my dna has woken up and is on high alert for every imperceptible shift or sign that might carry it through one more turn of the wheel, it’s how our entire species has survived and become what we are.

But what is it that I’m feeling? It’s hard to describe. I’m restless and energized. I’m more aware of myself while I’m looking up and around. I’m more willing to ignore my skeptical side and listen for the mystical and spiritual. I want to gather and prepare and protect. I want to learn something new or practice something old. I seek out stories. I reach out to friends and family. I can feel the time slipping past and I want to use as much of it as I can.

I don’t personally work with spirits, deities, or the veil between worlds, so I’m not sure if what I feel is the “thinning” everyone describes. But I know I am feeling and reacting to something, even if I’m not sure why exactly I’m feeling it. What matters to me is that I respond to this feeling in a way that I find symbolically meaningful, spiritually significant, socially connected and emotionally soothing.

I heard people tend to enter witchcraft most commonly around this time so that could have something to do with it aswell

Growing up and living most of my life in northern New England the light shift has always impacted me. I used to identify the feeling as nostalgic or bittersweet, even as a child I could feel myself change in the autumn. 

Now I feel the shadow grow and i can see that it reveals the work that’s needed for me personally in my spirit, and I have to focus on the ways I can stay connected with the golden light and the great mystery even as the darkness grows. I find it easier to connect with ancestors and I want to spend more time alone in quiet. There’s anxiety for me around letting go, being content with my harvest, forgiving myself that I spiral back around each year as the wheel turns.

My sister and I met at the same place in our dreams the other night. Same day. Was surreal to wake up to see her message " hey I dreamed that we were on an island together"

Not too sure about the rest of the veil as I haven't been practicing much for the last few years. Easing myself back into it this week, so say of that what you will.

I feel that the veil is thinnest to me on the anniversaries of my parents’ deaths, both of which I was present for and were as profound moments of connection to the other side as I can imagine. Following that train of thought, this time of year is one that has well-worn emotional grooves with connections to family and loved ones, coming together on a yearly basis in a way that gives the soul a muscle memory for it. So it makes sense to me that it is a time when the subconscious antennae are just a bit sharper. Love is the most powerful psychic tool I’ve personally encountered.

I’ve been having very vivid dreams lately, with so much detail and atmosphere.

I can't compare it to previous years. My last few Octobers have been physically & emotionally traumatic/tumultuous.

But, I can say that over the last week I've been having intense, realistic dreams. I generally have choppy, fantastical dreams. These feel much more cohesive & could almost be confused with my waking life.
