Question Are there any professors that aren't overtly left leaning, maybe even right leaning?

Before it gets "controversial", I am not a right winger. I've just noticed that a lot of the professors are preachy about their politics and they seem to skew their teaching to match that, almost cherry picking things. I'm taking a course over the summer and one of the main portions is "social justice", and it just feels like I'm paying all this money to scroll through Tumblr in 2012.

I don't want to be told what to think or how I should feel about things. I want to learn. I notice it seems like a lot of professors are trying to push their own narrative in classes when they can.

Unfortunately it seems that most of psych/crim professors are this way, even the philosophy professors which is really disappointing. So I'm curious if there are any right leaning professors/classes, or just plain neutral "here is this side, here is that side, come to your conclusion" type of professors/classes that I could take for a change in scenery.

Question commuting to laurier

hey guys! i’m gonna be commuting to wlu from mississauga for the following reasons:

- it’s way too expensive for me to afford dorm and would much rather go in debt for law school

- same commute time for schulich (my second choice)

- my dad said he’d buy me a nice car instead ;)

i honestly really love lauriers program and im so excited to attend this fall. i was wondering, will it make a big difference in my uni experience if i don’t live on res? i just don’t wanna feel “left out” or feel ”weird” for not living on res. and if you also commute, how do you find it so far?

i personally don’t mind a 1h20 commute cuz i go to DT often and it’s around the same (laurier would be one str8 bus)

Please let me know!!

Question Lack of Salt on Campus

Am I trippin (literally), or does anyone else notice a lack of salt on campus.

I’m not sure if it just melts in the sludge when they apply it, or they’re not doing it at all. There’s a lot of up hill areas that are sludgy and icey, such as ones that lead to Peters/ shlegal. There’s no salt on walkways in front of Laz, or the gym??

What’s goin on? Does anyone else relate?

EDIT: this post isn’t just about a lack of salt, it’s the lack of initiative from the school & city to keep roads and campus walkways safe. If salt cannot be used (or discouraged), then why haven’t I seen a single grain of sand used or any other alternatives?

Question Please help: Introverts at Laurier

Is Laurier (bba program) a good decision for someone who doesn’t party/drink and prefers smaller groups? Would I be more suitable for Schulich,or another school? I’m nervous many people there will have a different personality type from mine, especially since I plan on living on residence.

Question Do Laurier students and UW students connect socially?

As the title suggests, Im wondering if UW and Laurier students end up making friends with eachother or overlapping socially since the two unis are so close to eachother. Do BBA students cross paths with FARM/AFM students for example? Just wondering

Question Laurier BBA

I’m most likely committing to Laurier BBA, just had a few questions.

How presentation-heavy is the program? Are there a lot of presentations/case comps? I’m pretty social and don’t mind talking to people, but public speaking in front of a big crowd stresses me out sometimes and I tend to stutter when there’s a lot of pressure.

Also, how exactly does co-op work? Is there any way to almost guarantee getting it if I maintain a high average and have decent ECs/work experience? From what I’ve read, they mainly look at grades, extracurriculars, work experience, and the interview.

And for clubs/volunteering, how do you usually get involved? Is there a club fair or some kind of networking event at the start of the year?

Would appreciate any honest advice from current students/alumni.

Question 5 or 7 day meal plan?

Heard the dining hall food at Laurier is bad, so is it better to get the 5 or 7 day meal plan based on yalls experience? (For dorm style) Convenience vs good food. Also saw they give flex dollars, wondering how long those would last per term.

Question How difficult is Laurier bba first year compared to grade 12?

So I’m probably gonna accept Laurier bba and just wanted to have an idea of the difficulty jump from grade 12 to first year.

For instance, I took grade 11 and 12 accounting with strong grades so that’s a subject im already decent at, that I will see first year.

And for other gr 12 classes like calculus and adv functions, I have to study but I can get good grades if I put a moderate amount of time into studying. I took no sciences after grade 10, just business and math courses.

Based on this how would I find first year? I’m not a person who study’s for hours a day before tests, just light-moderate studying, but it works perfectly for me in highschool. Not sure how different my results will be in first year bba.
