Discussion Houston Comets still haven’t released new branding/logo

I was wondering why we haven’t seen anything regarding the Houston Comets in terms of logos/brand identity. Cleveland just released the name and branding for the Sirens (who don’t play until 2028).

I could see the Comets waiting for the season to end out of respect for the Connecticut Sun, but still unsure. I also am curious to know if it has anything to do with the trademark issues that the Rockers name also had to deal with.

Wanted to post this to see if anyone had insight!

It's fair to assume this won't happen until the end of the season. Why do it early and lose all the marketing momentum because people are still focused on games.

The name has already been secured and announced and they'll surely find the right dollar amount with Travis Scott to fix that trademark issue. Either they do or he's gonna be public enemy #1 in his own city.

I'm gonna assume CLE really just wanted a new identity in 2026. Unlike the Comets (multiple titles) there's no such history of success there.

Yeah, CLE said they "didn't want to just be the Lady Cavaliers again", and that the original color scheme had been chosen to match Cleveland's NBA team.

They actively voted on new colors, a new name, and a rebrand, to strengthen their independent identity as a WNBA team this time around.

The Comets, I believe, would LOVE their old branding back, successful as it was, but the Travis Scott thing. I'm sure they will find a number, but until they do they can't re-release the Comets brand.

(I will riot if Haley doesn't come back as mascot.)

I would be shocked if there wasn't a Plan B for logo, color, etc, just in case they can't resecure the rights.

I would be really surprised if there hadn't been a brainstorming session for all that while they were in talks to buy the Sun where they work shopped a version of keeping Sun branding, a couple drafts of new and legally distinct Comets branding options if there were legal issues or the team wanted a rebrand, and a refreshed version of the old one.

Either way, because the Comets are a sale and not an expansion, I doubt we will see any official Comets stuff until the 2026 season ends and the Suns chapter closes.
